Kiwi - here is some more personal history on this particular car. The photos that were stored on photobucket have since been taken down. However, i still have them.

Here was the car, unrestored, as found we found at Scott's shop in April 2009 - prior to the restoration - with it's Tempest front clip still on it. The owner of the original front clip was well known in Florida. He wanted $60k just to return the original sheet metal to the car. Scott had a new custom aluminum front clip made for less money.

Outline of Stan's name is still visible

The original 421 Super Duty is long gone. Scott had another one built out of Arizona.

Ubly Dragway is near my house and it is still running. I don't think this plaque survived the restoration.

Last time I heard this car was sold, it still had not paid for the cost of the restoration.

now that is super special!!!

i was fascinated, by how he went and put a early model diff in it to get the ratio he needed then the dealership puts all the parts numbers into available stock for other to build the same set up !!!

More exactly he put a ‘57 BOP diff in it. The original ‘63 has a shiftable rear diff but it was not beefy enough for drag racing. Pontiac amalgamated the old diff by making it an ‘over the counter’ factory part number, making it a legal use for NHRA purposes.

It did have a freashly rebuilt 389 that the guy said cost him 13k .... 🙄

it was super tidy but both front and rear bumpers needed rechroming and there was a few small spots of rust showing ,

Maybe I should contact  Haggerty and increase the value on my 63 drop top!

RE: the price. you can always negotiate down but never up.

Good grief - that's a lotta dough. 13k for a rebuild? Must be gold plated rods and valves made of diamonds. Clean looking car, though.

It seems to me that NZ has quite the classic car scene going on. You don't drive anywhere in Australia and see a 60s US car sitting in a lot - for a start it'd have to be secured inside. Anyway, good to see that the scene is healthy over there.

Classic car values look to have risen dramatically here in New Zealand due to the Covid lockdowns, as people have spare cash they can't spend on overseas trips. I plan to reassess my insured value next renewal, so long may it continue!

Chris, you don't see any US classics' here in Auckland for sale at a car yard.

My 63 Catalina has an LT with a comp cam and a 6L80E. Makes it a lot more pleasant to drive doesn't it. Nice ride by the way.

Yours at least had a reasonable trans in it, as memory serves it was the 4 speed cast iron hydro introduced in 39. Mine had the slim jim that was obviously designed after a week long pot party in the GM Hydramatic division. If GM ever designed a worse trans I never encountered it in my many years of auto repair.

Wow! No wonder you got 17 gazillion cars - I'll bet you charged accordingly for that little excursion. My job is so boring compared to yours. I can manage only the feeblest momentary loss of traction in thick mud in my 53 seat coach, but no powerslides.

That terrain looks like typical high country stuff - very nice indeed.

well mate, it was an 11 hour day, 155kms away from home, and a lot of work!... but having said that, the helicopter was $3850 plus tax per hour and we had him for 8 hours!

Think of the reward points on that credit card bill!!! Hopefully it goes towards, pizza, beer, gas, or parts!

Wow - that's intense. Still, at least you weren't on someone's bathroom floor attempting to clear their toilet after last night's curry. $3850 an hour? That's close to what you charge, isn't it?

Um... the toilet thing you mention ... that was last week and it was a council toilet in Turangi

some knuckle dragger shoved a can down the toilet then down loaded on top of it , which blocked it.... THAT WAS NOT A FUN JOB !! 🤢
