I feel for you Wrongway. I had to take charge of my dad's care the last few years of his life. Fortunately my brother was able to help by taking Dad to doctor's appointments and the grocery store while I worked. Hold your loved ones tight, that's for sure.

Thank you everybody for your kind words and thoughts. It really does suck, she was a great lady. Yes, kiwi I do believe in karma and I do know that one way or another I have no doubt she will get what's coming to her.

Well, I finally got the time and motivation to start tinkering on the cars again. Before I left for Missouri, I pulled the pumpkin and cleaned up everything in the rearend. All that was left was to reinstall the drive shaft. I spent two weeks, no exaggeration, looking for the U-bolts. Now I have misplaced a few parts here and there but never lost a part, my son and I searched everyplace that we keep the Grand Prix parts. I finally started emptying the garage out. Emptied one side and all the parts totes, nothing. Emptied all the "body work " toolboxes and under benches, nothing. Finally found them in an empty five gallon bucket in the corner. When I pulled them out and looked at my son he said, "oh yeah, I put them in there so they wouldn't get lost and forgot, but I know I told you." My only reply was "no son, I'm pretty sure you never said Hey dad, I'm sticking the u bolts in a five gallon bucket in the far corner of the garage, under the eye wash sink, and I'm going to piling shit on top of the bucket, so we don't lose these u bolts". Pretty sure I would remember that.  So anyways the drive shaft is back in. Tried to start her and no go. Looks like that little electric Holly fuel pump wasn't pushing hard enough. I looked up the numbers and it was actual underpowered from the start, my mistake. So, I bought a new one, a bigger one with a regulator. Had to build a bracket so I could install it on the frame rail beside the tank. Got the wiring reran to the new location then hooked up the regulator on the firewall. Waiting on the last two fitting to get here today so I can hook up the fuel lines.

That's a good story, Wrongway. Whenever I dismantle something I am meticulous about loose parts - normally resulting in endless labelled zip tie bags, along with dozens of pics.

But nothing is of any use when you drop a washer or something and it bounces away to a galaxy far far away. The amount of time I have spent on my hands & knees with glasses and a head torch looking for dropped items could possibly be measured in years.

As Kiwi said, good to hear from you again.

Good to hear you are back, I hope you get all figured out and the car back running soon...

Have a great weekend guys!

Most Recently I came across a Long Forgotten...Complete Set of Factory fog lights with the Wiring Harness and Factory Hardware ...Stashed in an old Ice chest in a Basement Corner...For an 85 Trans Am...Remembered Where I stashed them 20 plus years ago...Justa As Soon As I Recently/Accidentally found Them...🤔🤔

So they sent me the wrong fitting, go figure. Got the right fitting this morning and finished up the fuel line from the carb to the new regulator. All that's left should be to remove the old pump I installed a last year and hook up the gas lines from the tank to the new pump. Hopefully I can get her started tomorrow!

Well, I climbed under to pull the old fuel pump today. Since I finished the under the hood part yesterday, I decided to turn the old pump on before disconnecting it and justa test it one more time and see what the actual pressure is that the old small pump was putting out. Turned the power on and no fuel came into the filter. I figured ok since I can hear the pump I must be out of fuel. I moved on to another project. But something was nagging at me, then it hit me. I had fuel the other day it justa wasn't pushing it hard enough to leave the fuel filter by the carb. It would only fill it halfway. Damn it, fuel doesn't evaporate that fast. So, I climbed back under to disconnect the old pump and hook up and test the new pump when I found what I think could've be the original problem. Look how cracked up these hoses are. I'm thinking they might have been sucking in air! This fuel hose was put on new when I installed the old pump within the last two years. Anyways, picking up more fuel hose this weekend and I'll try to start her again.

No way !!!

how old is that fuel hose mate ? That looks 40 years old !!!!

Seriously Kiwi, no more than 2 years old. The guy that was my neighbor up until last year works for a company selling fittings for big trucks and tractors. Thats who I was buying my fittings from. I called him and had him bring me a couple fittings when I put the first pump on. I went hard line from the pump to the carb and rubber from the tank to the pump. When he brought the fittings, he brought home that hose. Its stamped "Jiffy hose" I had never heard of that, so I made sure to ask if it was fuel hose and he said yeah, they sell it all the time for use on tractors. I have about a three foot section left on a shelf, so I pulled it and looked it over. It's even showing wear on it, not near as bad but it's showing age from justa sitting there.

I just walked out and took these. Look at the letters on the hose, those were facing up and you can tell that hose wasn't cleaned. The letters are bright white, its less than two years old bro. It's crazy.

Hmmmm....this disturbs me because that is a fire waiting to happen at the wrong time. I can think of a couple of things.

1. The hose is actually older than 2 years old

2. The hose is NOT rated to handle modern ethanol-based fuels or automotive chemicals

3. Seriously defective manufacturing

The fact that it is cracking like mad gives me the impression that it was left out in the sun, in Death Valley CA, for the last two years. Clearly this is not the case but that poor a hose is definitely defective and not safe. Did you get any other hose from this guy? Have you double checked the rest of your rubber hose to make sure other things aren't breaking down?

No Frosty, the fuel system parts were the only parts I got from him. Being I went hard line for as much as I could and he sells fittings I got them a bit cheaper, and I knew nothing about AN fittings it justa seemed logical at the time. I agree with yall, that hose looks like it's been on the car since 1963. I can't say how old the hose actually is, or how long it was laying in their parts room, but I can say it was installed within the last two years and looked decent when I installed it.

On a side note, this is the first car I've put a fuel pressure regulator on that I can remember. My thoughts are, and please correct me if I'm wrong. I should be able to turn on power and set the pressure before ever starting the engine? Holly says this pump/regulator combo its factory set at 14psi and I was thinking of backing it down to 7psi before starting the car and adjusting it from there?

like any regulator mate, you can set that static pressure but i would check it again with the engine running to get a working pressure too...

Your still using a carb right?  No Injection?  Carb usually needs no more than 5- 7psi as it will blow past your needle valve/float and flood the bowl/engine.

i agree with Frosty, it doesnt say its for gas on the hose ! all the fuel line i have ...and i justA went and looked has ...

"fuel hose" followed by a sae number

Thanks Kiwi.

Yeah Justa, still using the 800 AVS2 from Edelbrock. I was thinking start out around 7psi until I start the engine then dial it back or adjust from there. Think it would be better to start around 6?
