Wrongway, is that how the factory pipes exit or did you utilise the reverse light apertures? As you know, I was determined to show the world my twin pipes, unlike the hidden factory setup. It meant notching the rear bumper but I love it.

Well I was actually missing my reverse lights, the whole assembly. I spent a couple years off and on looking for them. I even tried putting different sockets in them. When I finally found them used the guy justa wanted too much for them. Couldn't justify paying that price so I decided the run the exhaust out them. A couple weeks after I enlarged the holes a 1/4" somebody posted a set for $85 on ebay. Go figure

Well I'm back to work on Rosey after being distracted with a laser engraving machine for the last couple of weeks. Anyways, changed the trans pan gasket and figured I'd replace the rearend oil since I lost some when I pulled the axels for the brake conversion. I looked all over the pumpkin and could not find the drain plug. I finally got out the book and found it. It doesn't show the fill plug but I'm guessing that's it in the first picture. (This is an extra pumpkin I had in the shop. Not the one in my car) So according to the book, you gently thread in a 1/2" tap until the plug starts moving and then finish screwing until the plug is out. DO NOT DRILL HOLE IN PLUG. So, I looked inside the pumpkin and seen a tunnel where the plug would fall into the case. I really do not want to pull the axels and everything else justa to drain the fluid. Is it possible to justa loosen the lower bolts and let it drain out that way? Or is there another way to drain it? I have the Amsoil our Indian friend recommend for me to refill it with and didn't think it would be wise to mix that with whatever is left from the factory rearend oil.

My Fairlane had a BorgWarner diff and to drain it, you removed the rear cover, which of course meant installing a new gasket as well. Fortunately it should be a once in 5 years job, so no biggie. I wonder what the reluctance by manufacturers to install a drain plug is? My TH400 has it's original oil pan and guess what? No drain plug. You can buy aftermarket ones with a drain plug.

Mate try justa taking out one bolt from the head and see if it drains the contents 

If not

your gona  have to pop the lot and crack that gasket 

Or !!! Pull the top up plug and come up with a suction hose to pull out the contents 

Do yo have a brake bleed pot that uses air ? That would suck all the gear oil out

I would gladly remove the back cover and replace the gasket if i could, but she's a front loader. No removeable back cover. I did actually consider drilling and adding a drain plug also bro. But figured i would still have to pull the pumpkin to cleanout the metal shavings. yeah, that stopped me :lol:

 Thats genius Kiwi, no I do not have an air brake bleeder but I'm sure I can make some kind of suction thingy to feed down the fill hole and suck the rest of the oil out. I'll let yall know what I come up with. :naughty:

Agree with Chris, you need to split the case enough to drain. Look at your fill hole, (arrow 1)  removing the plug in the front wouldn't drain hardly anything out.  Do any of the lower bolts go all the way through into the case?  Seems like thats how I remember doing mine. Note to self:  If it's posi, ya also need to add posi unit oil to that when filling. Then top off with your gear oil to proper level.

Well, I waited all day for a buddy to bring over his air brake bleeder and he justa left with it. It was missing everything except the tank. :lol: Man that's how my luck runs. But, the silver lining is that while looking over the bleeder I looked up on the wall, high up, where the old tools are that were given to me by old timers, older friends and grandfather. Look what I found, think it will work? It still has good suction. Thinking about trying it first thing in the morning and if it doesn't work then buying a cheap suction.

Oh, and I did get the passenger seat put in, the glove box insert, glove box door and lock installed, and emergency brake cables ran, not hooked up but ran.

The next time you go to your doctor and complain of a sore tummy and he brings out the RAM Sludge Syphon, it's probably time to change doctors.

Sooo the good news, I finally got the fender extensions that I searched 2 years for installed. Of course, NOTHING lined up and all off the fender bolts had to be loosened which meant realigning everything. But they are on and look great. (They're dirty not scratchy).

The bad news, as my son and I were realigning the driver's side fender he decided to open the door to "check the gap" and scratched, gouged, took a chunk of paint, whatever you want to call it out of the fender. I guess this is one of those lessons you have to learn as you go. 

We did also try to break the bolts loose on the pumpkin and let it drain. Couldn't budge them. Cleaned them really well and sprayed them with penetrating oil. Still couldn't budge them even with my big ratchet. I could've grabbed a breaker bar but figured that was the car gods telling me not to crack it, justa to suck it out, so that'll be Monday's job hopefully.

Yeah man, I knew he felt bad. I told him we'd justa touch it up after she was running and not to stress about it. He's in the garage with me every day after school, I honestly have no idea how many hours he has put in on that car with me. That counts for something right, and you can't be mad at him for mistakes that anybody could've made.

Man I hate this good news bad news shit! Ok, so I used the sludge pump and sucked all of the old grease/oil out. When I couldn't get anything else out and decided that should be good, in my typical fashion decided try reach outside what I deemed as the "safe zone". I went back towards the gears justa bit to make sure I got it all. Yep, got it all, started pulling the tube out and it was stuck in the gears. I gently wiggled and tried different angles nope locked up tight. Jacked up the car and gently turned the tire and it slid right out. What's the problem you ask, it left the little brass cap on the end of the tube inside the rearend case. In case you haven't figured it out, I'm scared to death to open up this rearend. Not scared of the work mind you but I have never pulled a gear set out before. If it was a rear loader with a back cover no big deal. But pulling the whole gear set scares me. Would it hurt to drill a hole and tread it for a drain plug then flush the shavings from drilling and the brass cap out with motor oil, let drain a couple days the refill with rearend oil? Or am I going to be pulling the gear set? Pictures of the brass cap and the gear lube that came out, the book says it holds 5.5 pints, that's between 3-4 plus what I lost when I pulled the axels last year, I figured I was pretty close.

pull both axles, undo the bolts around the head, and the whole pumpkin pops out complete.

on the up side looking at that oil, it was ment to be !!!! it will let you give that casing a good clean out, i bet it needs it !

Yeah, I kind of figured that yall would tell me justa to man up and pull it. At least I know it'll be good when it's done. That oil was nasty, I've never seen any oil that black, but I couldn't find any metal in it so that's good.

On a brighter note, after a trip to Ace hardware for a new 5/16-24 nut I now have a complete parking brake set up and installed. Which of course will be removed when I pull the axels. Who needs a drink? THIS GUY! :rofl:

Memories made will last a lifetime.  Huge "atta boy" to get him interested and keep him working with you instead of having his face stuck to a phone screen.  Wrongway has it covered and doing it the rightway!!! :bowdown:

but its a longgggg drive to get to my shed !!:rofl:

I ordered the gasket last night, say's it'll be here between the 5th- 9th. Nobody in town has one. Looks like rain for the next week off and on so it may be a few days before I can take the rearend apart.
