Wow - nice repair bill. You know, my TH400 is about the only thing that hasn't been looked at (the diff should outlive the car so I trust it'll be fine.) I certainly don't need to throw more money at the car but I'll road test it and see how it goes. I know for certain the car has 2.73 gears so it'll need to attain some sort of road speed before it changes to second. Yes, even though we live out in the bush, the fine for driving an unregistered vehicle just isn't worth the risk. I'm thinking perhaps $2k for a tranny rebuild? Does that sound about right to you?

Godammit - I was looking forward to pics of you up to your neck in auto fluid and surrounded by a sea of parts with no idea of what went where. Oh well, I hope it all goes well. I have yet to get my own car up to enough speed to see if it actually changes gears. I'm thinking of getting a permit to drive it unregistered and go for a short blast just to see how she goes.

Happy now???

Yup, that's the Wrongway of doing things for sure! Trust me, I know!  and as Kiwi said, thats half the fun!

Yes Wrongway, every time I attempt something that's not quite legal, bam! I get caught. I'm clearly a slow learner but got the message eventually. It's about $100 for 2 days of driving - I'm good with that.

that sucks Fitzy,, here if i get caught it would be $200 for no warrant of fitness, and $200 for no registration.

the trick is to make your car LOOK legal then they have no reason to pull you over.... short of you speeding!!!

Yup, I get it buddy. But im still with Mr. Kiwi on this.  Justa remember to look both ways and behind you before stomping on the go fast pedal! :driving:

Good luck, fella. One of the many advantages of having a hoist. If mine needs doing, the car will have to go to the shop - I can't even get under it to even look at the trans!

Fitzy I noticed you don’t have a over flow pipe from your rad bottle

I fitted one so if the overflow bottle does spit . It doesn't oooz out the hole in the lid

i blocked the hole in the plastic lid with a small bit of silicon ( plumbers best friend too )

its justA rubber grommet and a bit of 3/8 tube, down the side of the radiator

Still haven’t completed the radiator shroud ... but another day another mission

you can see were i have scribed the edge of the fan blade with a pencil to the cardboard for my next cut

to find the circle for the cylindrical section to be added

this is the important part... the fan pulls air and the cylindrical sheet metal stops the air falling of the out- side edge of the fan, and MAKES the air head in the direction the fans wants it to flow. i bet there is a special name for it... i call it flow.

The bible is very explicit about how to fill a jetaway 315

Okay - what am I looking at here: is that coolant and why is it all over the ground?

Well done on the trans & brakes - car is looking sharp from underneath, and not too shabby on the surface. Sounds like all your hard work and dedication to solid engineering has paid off. I can only hope I attain the same sort of result coz upon my return from work next week, I'm gonna replace that leaking wheel cylinder and take it for a drive to the nearest servo (about a kilometre away) chuck some fuel in and see how the auto shifts. If the car drives okay, I'll get a 2 day permit and will drive it around listening for fatal noises and monitoring everything.

i topped up the reserve bottle once again justA in case i had any more air bubbles in the system.... more than happy for it to over flow rather than be lacking fluid, knowing full well it can do justA what it did

Congratulations! Outstanding job. I’m so glad you were able to get your trans done by a local shop. Your wheels are total show winner quality!

thanks Del, it was the $3567 that took the wind out of me!! haha.. but at least its done and i wont ever have to worry about it again

old Bill the trans guy gave me a 1 year or 20,000 km warranty, looking at old bill, i think my trans will out live him!!

He showed me some of the reverse seals, and how brittle they where, he was surprised i had reverse!

Not a bad price. I paid more ore one and a little less for the other. If it keeps working it was a great deal!

I have been doing the dad thing this weekend helping my oldest daughter move house and as usual I got justA hour on Sunday night to do something on the 64 .

like fitzy my window washers didnt work ... I looked at the wiring diagram but it doesn’t show the wiring to the washer pump !

I was expecting the pump to have its own motor ... no such thing ! It’s a diaphragm with a push rod ..

and this is where I justA had to laugh !!

When you push the button on the wiper control knob I could hear a click ...

I take the cover off the wiper motor to find a solenoid operating  gate .... this gate locks and unlocks a wheel , with teeth on it !!! What a crack up ! I have never seen anything like this before !!!

When you press the wash button you actuate one full turn of this wheel with teeth on it , the plunger moves back and forth pumping the diaphragm / pumping water

all that was wrong with the system was it was lacking lube... a quick squirt of crc and it all worked perfectly !!!

One very easy fix 👍👍👍
