Sorry for the late response kiwi, It's been to cold to mess with her bro. As soon as it warms up it looks like I am going to have to pull the dash pad off to find that bolt hole for the top hinge bolt. I was messing with the exhaust also, but that's on hold for now due to weather also. Glad to see you and Fitzy are still moving forward bro. Keep up the good work!

Do you have someone to line the brake drums?

Yes mate

my local brake shop is going to surface them , they are in very good condition

so they won’t need much

Cool, have seen those pressure washer blasters and wasn't sure how good they work especially what happens when you are done, flash rusting  Before it dries? Is a really hot day better for this?

Not being familiar with the Pontiac 8 lugs i see that the driveaxles look like the regular 5 bolts can you just replace the drum with a 5 bolt if you wanted to?

You are making great progress 👍🙂

yes, flash rust on the cast iron liners mate, but not an issue, these are going to the brake guy who will mill a small amount off the liner,

i will ask him about the question we where talking about a few months ago Andy, about the which way around the bigger and smaller shoes go on the car!

to swap to standard drums is a simple swap on the back... the front due to the drum having the hub incorporated, you have to find standard drum hubs to fit too the stub axles.... i justA happen to have those on the spare chassis.... if ever i want to do a disc brake up grade... but frankly, the car stops really well with these great big brake drums!!!

i will take a picture... one moment please :) ....

rears you can see the little bit of flash rust.. not really an issue

fronts you can see the incorporated hubs

No need to change brakes if you are happy with the rims and the rim choice's out there.

Those 8 lugs are such a iconic Pontiac thing.

Let us know what your brake guy says about the shoes.

Yo Kiwi - all lookin' good. Your progress is impressive.

Can I ask - with your air horns, did you manage to get the factory horn button to work? If not, what is an acceptable legal method of alternate horn operation? From what I've read, a button that's within easy reach will suffice.

Nobody has responded to my request re horn button info, so I'm curious as to how you got yours to work.

Del, wrongway do either of you have this seal on your cars ????

I never took it off but it looks to go along. The radiator cross member ????

Yes, My mostly perfect original has that. I would like to know where to buy one for the other Bonnie. I think maybe it helps to keep the hood from popping open at higher speeds. The clips to hold it looks unique

Great pictures Del!!! thank you!!!

i like those leather boots over the A arms!! AND that fan shroud!!!

it looks to connect to the underside of the plate over the radiator ?

Del , is that another seal in front of the radiator???

image.png.80350b1148722f8b73a80f69fe0f3fcf.png

From day one this bit of carpet had been glued down in the trunk !!

i have already seen from the underside that it has had a new floor in the past

but when it goes to be checked they will want to see the top side too !

image.jpg

That explains what this seal is for !!

same as mine mate, you can see that on Dels that someone has made custom dust covers to go over the front A arms and riveted them to the inner fender, where as stock was a flap which was stapled on .... looks well made!!!

I believe those are air seals that force the air coming in to through the rad instead of going up N over the core support.  There is an air deflector for the GTO that goes at the bottom of the rad forcing air up and through the rad.

While stripping down the brakes I spotted a broken spring on the park brake guide bar.

and instinctively i jump on the internet and start looking for replacements, found a company close to me that could make them... saw that Ponti world in oz has them and classic industries have them... looks to be a very common gm item !..

then i clicked!!!

i had a " cant see the wood for the forest" moment !!!

i have a whole brake system sitting on the parts car!!!🙄hahahahahha:rofl:
