we spent around a hour out on the "test" trip , saw 3 cops none of which pulled us over!!!!!!  ( sorry fitzy)

and i got a real good feel for how the car was working.

thats was the good part!!!

first issue, brakes are pulling to one side... once i got back to then garage after our test, i put her  straight on the hoist and adjusted the brakes again.... another test drive proved i had sorted that issue!!!

next was it was running with a flat spot off idle. so what i did is moved the accelerator pump rod from the center position to the closest to the pump which gave it a bigger squirt... it worked, along with re setting the mixer for the 95 fuel..... 2 easy fixes. next one is not!!!

rear main seal has decided to start leaking!!!! a whole new pita!!!!... but even thats a fix i should have expected.....

big one  for today... once the trans was up to temperature, it would shift from 1 st and then start slipping. if i put the pedal down it would rev and slip, if i took my foot out of it, it would go straight to  fourth...

i will be calling "bill " the trans guy in the morning, it may very well be something to do with the tv rod but i really dont know how to adjust that... i am going to have to see what bill says.

i found i have one tail light bulb holder that doesn't want to play ball, so i will replace that and  justA some times the indictors don't work on right activation.... i think that will be the switch issue...

all in all a very good day of testing... trans issue, yeah a pita but its under warranty ... rear main... well lets see how it behaves after a oil change.!! ( ok i am a dreamer!!!! it will need replacement)

the boss loves the car now and is banging on about painting it!!!

beer n steak time!!!!

Great pic's.  Looks like you had awesome weather.  Gonna have LIL things to fix/adjust as ya go.

Wow - how lucky are you. Cruising around in the sunshine on small backroads test driving the old girl (the Bonnie, not the Boss.) I genuinely wish you all the best on your test drives and your upcoming inspection. To be honest, I threw myself into that mower teardown to get my mind off the car.

You be sure to let us know when she's all legal. I KNEW you'd win the race of who's car gets on the road first but am quite okay with it. You'll probably post the first roadside breakdown too! But I hope not.

I only just saw your last post. Rear seal - to be expected unfortunately. You might get by with one of those stop leak oil additives to get you through the inspection. I had to replace both my tail light bulb holders - 56 years old and they couldn't keep working??? Surely your trans problem is an adjustment - I sure hope so.

I fiddled with my brake adjustment some time ago. I don't know about yours but the little access slots in the backing plate don't seem to line up nicely with the adjusting star - the rears are fouled by the axle and control arms AND you have to hold the little spring out of the way whilst you turn the star wheel. On a hoist it's probably not so bad, but at ground level it was frustrating.

with my brakes i bent a screw driver to fit in the slot better, and after the adjustment yesterday they are way more even... i was thinking of a can of oil stop leak as a first attempt to stop the main seal leak!!! it will mean the motor has to come out again to replace it, which is exactly what i didnt want to do yet.

i rang the Trans Guy this morning ( bill) and he said he tested it and all was perfect BUT he thinks it must be the tv rod connected to the carb and all he could tell me was to drive the car , adjust it and see what happens!!

i am going to reach out here with a new thread, some one must know who to adjust a throttle valve rod on a super hydromatic. the shop manual is really hard to work out what to do.

When you said you were going out cruising for chicks, I didn't think you meant it literally! What did you do - bore it to death with stories of your restoration???😁

Even now, I HATE hitting anything, even a sizeable bug with a car. Their primitive blueprint still can't imagine something that big coming at them so fast. A bit like when someone on their phone walks in front of a bus.

pontiac is pretty much a  bus !!!

one tiny tweety bird has no chance mate!!!

but a big bird!!! well thats a different story!!

Another rotten Saturday at the beach , but I did get to call in and see Bill the transmission guy

I explained what the jetaway is doing and he is coming over next Sunday to take the 64 for a drive , go through some checks like oil level tv rod adjustment and then look at removing the pan and checking if anything is in the pan

he said he would possibly need to remove the valve body and take it back to his shop ... so watch for a update next weekend

today I am off to work for friends while the boss relaxes at the Bach

fitzy we should do some drone fishing when your over !!

Did I mention that I'm not a real man? Can't stand fishing, nor golf! However, I will gladly consume the fish that YOU catch!

MATE  you own and drive one of the coolest cars on the planet !!! if thats not real mans shit, get me  a dress and call my Lucy !!

You will really like snapper mate, fresh its the best!!!

Your beachside residence looks fantastic, so allow me to be clear. I am more than happy to sit out there and drink all your beer whilst you fluff about catching fresh snapper. I will then consume said snapper with unbridled delight. I adore fresh fish but detest fishing. Look, I'll even stand beside you on the sand whilst you fly the drone and offer moral support but sitting in a boat smelling of fish guts and getting sunburnt and having to pee over the side is not for me.

In spite of my admittedly 'cool' car,  I am not a real man but am quite comfortable in my own skin. Which reminds me, my skin treatment on my face worked a treat and I now look like a movie star. It was a horrible painful experience but the results are nothing short of amazing. If you're reading this and suffer sun damaged skin, see your doctor about available treatments.

Just had Bill the transmission guy here

i took him for a drive and sure as, it slips going into 3rd, take your foot out and it moves up to 4th.

we adjusted the tv rod 3 times and got a good kick down, and still it slipped going UP into 3rd.

when you gun it at 40 mph she ticks down into 3rd good as gold. so it is the up shift thats the issue.THEN

i put the car on the hoist and drained the oil!!!! only about 4 litres came out!! now i had put near 11 litres in this trans when i got it back from the rebuild, and it hasn't leaked.... Bill seams to think the coupling isnt draining down like it is supposed too

he took the valve body off and went back to his workshop to test it.

so i have left a drain tray under the trans an i bet over night that coupling will drain.

NOTE: when we took off the pan, clean as inside!! so i had everything in the cooler system clean enough !

once again justA me over thinking shit.

Bill the transmission guy is back this Sunday with the valve body, he was saying it needed a ball bearing in some where... but i will find out more detail this weekend and hopefully it works!!!

Best of luck. This is a little embarrassing, but every time I take my car out and it shifts from first to second I think of YOUR transmission problems and I give thanks to whatever entity was looking over me that my trans works so well. It's gotta be a silly little problem - looks squeaky clean inside.
