So what are you going to call this project car? Mable? Project '57? Gertrude? Wally? Intensive care (for nearing being put into intensive care by your boss when she found out about another damn car in the yard! LOL!)? 

The CHIEF     is finally home.   Whatta journey and time spent waiting.  Don't remember the gas door missing from the original pic's,  hope it's in the back seat with the missing trim.   Justa for kicks......I'd name it Clyde.   Get all gangster with it.  The Boss can drive Bonne to shows N you can run Clyde. 

HELL YEAH!!! My boy, congrats brother! I love it. Got any pics of the inside??? Are the engine and trans present?

thank you frosty, i do have a limp now from the removal of a couple of organs, but i am still alive !!

AND after the boss got over the stock she was banging on about what colour its going to be !!!

Thank you JustA, this as been a long long journey ! the car left Still water Minnesota way back on the 22nd of March ! then went to newark ny depot , then shipped down the west coast through the panama channel, across the pacific ocean to Brisbane Australia, then down to Tauranga nz then railed to Auckland for maf inspection. then yesterday onto my trailer and down to Taupo !!! 

 And yes i need to check on what is there and what is missing!!! one big thing that has gone is the passenger side head light surround !

i am going to get some painting done on the additions done first thing today then latter i am going to pull everything out of the 57 and see what i have and take lots of pictures !

i had a quick look last night, and i think i can get it to run!!! everything looks intacted and the motor is free,

Well, we're excited for you buddy. Can't wait for the new pics and to see what's under that hood! I 2nd Justa, the whole Bonnie and Clide thing is justa to cool not to run with it.

Today I am trying to  do two things at once 

paint the upper cladding 

and go through the 57 

I want to try to get it going 

so after first top coat I have topped up the water to see if she leaks 

I must agree with JUSTA. Clyde would make an interesting name for the Chief. So you have Bonnie and Clyde! Well done JUSTA! It would make fun discussions at car shows, especially if you had both cars parked next to each other.

Dont forget that that stock 331/347 is a reverse flow cooling system too. Water goes to the heads first, then the block. It is opposite of your 389 in your Bonnie in that respect. 

Took all of 20 minutes to get it running and driving ! Which is a bonus 

it was sold to me as non runner 

It looked really complete in the engine bay and the plugs looked really new, i had no information on when it was last running, so i bought this car based on no- go!

i stuck a tank of gas in the front with a hose to the fuel pump, cleaned the battery terminals, would turn over, didn't fire.....

checked for 12v at the coil...yes.....

popped the cap, filed the points, cleaned the rotor.

put cap back on, turned key bang!

idles great, big leak from the passenger side manifold, looks like the gasket is blown out..

jumped in, shifted into "D", it moved !!! stomped the breaks.... it stopped ! its beer o clock ! i am now impressed !!!

took it for a drive around the house... it was slipping....

stopped, pulled the trans stick, no fluid to be seen, pumped near 4 litres into the transmission .

took it for another drive ! wayyyyy better , trans shifted 1-2-3-4 .stopped stuck "Clyde" in reverse, and off we went backwards!!

AND i looked underside and this super hydro isnt leaking..... YET !

at this point i and over the moon! 

i plan to put it on the hoist tomorrow and have a really good look at what i have bought. but guys ! right now i see big potential with this 57 !!!woop woop !!! beer o clock!!!! 

oh, then the boss came out and wanted a ride! so off around the house i took the boss. she was impressed that i got it to run and drive...!!, so i gunned it just makes sure she would say slow down!!! hahaha.

big skid on the lawn, the old girls still got some grunt! , boss hanging on for dear life!....

Good job buddy! Sounded pretty good too. I even got a glimpse inside. I can't wait to see it all finished and on the road next month!  Seriously brother great job and great purchase. I can't wait to see where you take this project Kiwi.

thanks Andy, well the 64 is all but done! i have paint and making her road legal to do, but that wont be till this summer.

i have always loved the tri fives and have owned 4 of the chev versions, now it is time to go down the Pontiac path and have some fun !

i dont really see working on cars as work, i see it as a release ! i really enjoy the challenge, and the 57 will not be any where near stock, i will modify everything to make it more modern and more comfortable to drive, all my chevs where like trucks to drive, i want it to handle like a hellcat ! and have heated seats to match too ! and why not!! hence the plan to modify  

So happy for ya.  Very impressed it runs/drives.  Crosses a ton off the list.  Hope your missing parts are there.  It was very hard sometimes to keep my (TYPING FINGER shut) But did drop some comments only you would pickup on!  I did see a 50's hood at Barry's,  wonder what he might have for ya???  Oh yea house is looking great!!

i must post some pictures of the reno when it stops raining!!! ... or i should say... IF it stops raining! this has being going on for weeks now! rain water tanks are full to over flowing !

I am really hoping this rain stops !
