Odds and ends mostly (I think), going to refill the trans today and mount the steering wheel and shoot for a test drive.

Nice enjoy it... I have been driving my 63gp, but now I developed a pesky leak on the thermostat housing already put new gasket with the sealant on both sides twice and it still leaks.. .I am thinking that my bolts may be too long not putting enough pressure on it going to add some washers next to test it

Hopefully that's all it is Ron.

Looks Fantastic! You can tell you take real pride in this car — it shows!!!!

Hi Wrongway, I've been out of touch for some time and just caught up with your progress - looks great. The paint appears to have a flat finish - is that the final finish? As you know, I really like the heavily patinated paint on my car and yours is the look I would also go for. The stance is just right and the car has that faintly sinister look to it.

Here's a pic my son took standing in the bed of the truck. I'll try to get one a better shot of the car with the roof tomorrow bro.

Yeah Fitzy, that's the final finish bro. It's more of a semi-gloss then a high gloss or flat if that makes sense. The color started out a Ford color called magnetic, but I changed the flop from a dark grey to black and then darkened up the primary color. It came out pretty slick, that dark charcoal in the sun and almost flat black at night or in the shade.

Here's a couple pics I took tonight so you could see the color in the dark. You can see its black or almost a flat black in the spots where no light hits it.

Ok, so when in gear and driving she runs well, not much power on takeoff. Sounds good at idle in park. Idel drops really low when put in gear. Backing up the drive which is steep, it takes everything she has, and she runs rough with NO power. The biggest thing is she diesel's after she gets warm any time I shut her off. The hotter she gets the more violent it is. So, it was explained to me that the "dieseling" effect is normally caused by left over fuel and not by the timing. I took multiple videos of the dieseling justa to see what was going on. In one of the videos where she was good and hot I actually seen gas pours over the front wall of the carb. So, the regulator was set at 6PSI. I backed it all the way down to 4PSI in increments of .5PSI. Still dieseling. So, I reached out to Edelbrock, from what the tech said, he thinks that with a new build and new carb that 6PSI was probably too high and bent the floats out of adjustment. He advised that I readjust the floats to factory setting and check that nothing is stuck between the needle and seats. So that's tomorrow's project. But while working on and around the fuel system and carb I found something that disturbed me and I don't know if it is normal break in or not. In the glass fuel filter justa after the regulator I found a bunch of metal shavings. Like a bunch, and some were pretty big. Could it justa be the regulator or pump "breaking in"? Anyways I guess I'm going to open that up when I reset the floats. Also, justa for info's sake, the Edelbrock tech advised when setting up a new Edelbrock carb to start at 5PSI and work up from there.

wow! that tells me the filter is doing its job !

i agree with edlebrock mate, reset the float levels, and see how she goes,

justA remeber to set them with the car on the flat, not up against your garage, that drive is a little steep cheers

and clean everything ! justA in case some of that metal has got to the float needle !

in fact, while you have the top off the carb, clean the lot !

There should not be any metal in that system. Did you drill on the tank? Cut a fuel hard line with a hacksaw?

  • Author

No sir Justa, that's why I figured I should also take the regulator apart and check it out and the filter right off the tank, between the tank and pump was clean. So it has to be between the pump and carb, The only things there are the pump and regulator.

A little steep bro? lol2 Yeah, justa little bit.

Dieseling? Run on after the ignition key is off? Sometimes that is caused by hot spots of baked carbon in the combustion chambers that provide an ignition source for the fuel. Try running some really good fuel system cleaner through the engine at a high concentration. I like Chevron Techron, BG Products 44K Platinum and they say that the Royal Purple Max Clean detergent is good. Basically, anything with the compound known as "poly ether amine" in it is best.

Cleanup of the carbon might take a while - it did not build up overnight.
