  • Frosty collected his car this morning. Looks great! You must be so proud.

  • Frosty, you are now retired and with that there is a certain amount of dignity that you need to hang onto. Bumblebee stickers on a purple car screams 'undignified.' Girls will think you're a teenager.

I have just finished applying 5-6 coats of clear coat. Now I am waiting for it to set up and harden.

I told you that I got my oil catch can and 180 degree thermostat in last week from Amazon. I opened the oil catch can box. Things looked good up until I started looking at how the can attaches the engine mounting bracket. It is an inch long M5 fine thread bolt. However the hole in the bracket is wider than the head of the bolt and once it is screwed into the can lid, it is shorter than the width of the bracket. So this bolt is totally useless holding the catch can to the bracket.

So I went to my local hardware store, I got a much longer stainless steel M5 bolt and a washer that is slightly wider than the bracket diameter. It cost me less than a dollar for the bolt and washer and then $10 for the small bottle of thread locker. I plan to paint the bolt head and washer black so the stainless doesn't distract from the catch can. I will post pictures when I get back to the garage.

This happened a couple of weeks ago but it took me that long to find time to upload the photos from my Canon DSLR.

I am installing my new Motoraid 180 degree thermostat and oil catch can. Here is what I am starting with. The thermostat is right there and the bolt that will hold the catch can is actually being used (at the moment) to hold part of the wiring harness.

Here is the oil catch can - some assembly required.IMG_1255.thumb.JPG.38fee65991549783bcc2df3ef8a21b41.JPG

Notice the two screws.....the small threaded screw holds the can to the extension above the screws. I used Loctite on that thread. Then the large screw holds the Z-shaped bracket to the extension. Again I used Loctite.

Used an interior trim removal tool to get the wiring harness off of the bolt hole used to retain the catch can. The bolt was included in the kit.

Here is the finished product ready to go in the car. I had to reverse the left and right hoses once I realized that they were on the wrong sides because one hose is longer and the other shorter. The longer hose has to run to the PCV outlet, the smaller one has to run to the intake manifold.

Here is is finally installed. I again used Loc-Tite on the bolt to the engine. I will get a zip tie to clean up the wiring.

Here is the new 180 degree thermostat. The air hold has to be installed at the 12 o'clock position to allow any trapped  air bubbles to pass through.

A 10mm is all that is needed. 110 in-lbs is the torque spec (yes inch pounds)!

IMG_1261.thumb.JPG.ebc49dcdbd4aad14909f3b3d3cb04955.JPG

I am not happy with the mess I made with the antifreeze. More came out than I thought. Now I need to top of the anti-freeze. Sheesh.

IMG_1262.thumb.JPG.085cf42b00768be062953d4cfc9b7172.JPG

Job done. What little antifreeze I caught was poured back in. I will need to buy some more to top it off. IMG_1267.thumb.JPG.9a76900ce66c091baca1303ee41d39ec.JPGIMG_1268.thumb.JPG.565a006d60222061fe45005c859fa952.JPG

Nice work, Frosty. Perhaps now is a good time to stop fiddling with things that ain't broke and take it for a drive!

I'm keen to see how Kiwi's little purple shopping trolley goes.

I agree Fitzy, but I have just one problem.  I, then the boss, came down with Covid. I got it over a week ago, my wife tested positive on Friday.  So my 10-day quarantine ends Wednesday. Hers will end Monday. With luck I’ll be out and about this weekend. Symptoms were mild, sinus drainage was about it. I took Paxlovid, which i feel helped me sleep at night. The missus is JUSTA using over the counter meds.

Quick side story about the F&F charger. Back in the early  2000s, I had a local speed shop called Hardcore Racing replace the body bushing on Lucy and they installed the 12-bolt rear end in her. When I came to pick up Lucy, it was in the back showroom parked right next to the black Charger - blower and all. Somewhere I have a picture of the two, together.

i asked if that was Dom’s car from the movie. They said it was.The owner of the shop had purchased it after the studio decided to sell it. The owner had grenaded the motor doing burnouts so it didn’t run at the time.

He didn’t own it very long. He and his business partner were shutdown and convicted by the FBI for committing mortgage fraud. All his cars went to auction, the shop was shut down, and the employees were let go unpaid for their last few weeks work.

I'm waiting for the new vaccine that is for both the flu and covid. Heard it's suppose to be out in Nov.

Today I topped off the radiator with new coolant. I took it for a quick test drive, visited my brother, and checked the water temperature with the new thermostat. I saw the engine temperature run to about 205 in city stop-n-go driving. Running on the expressway or in open air, temperatures would drop quickly to about 185.

I got an oil change today as well. It was $165, including 7 quarts of 0W40, a new filter and a new cabin air filter (that was $55 itself). They charged me $25 for an extra oil charge! WTF? Now she has fresh oil for next year’s Power Tour!

Ordered some Plum Crazy Purple touch up paint and skip shift eliminator from Amazon. They should be here next week.

Right now, if the car is revved high enough and you are going between 18-22 mph, the car will force you to shift from 1st to 4th gear, bypassing 2nd and 3rd gear. The skip shift eliminator plugs into the transmission and fools the computer, allowing you to use 2nd and 3rd gear.

CAGS...Computer Assisted Gear Selection...My 6 speed (Borg Warner T56) Firebird has the Same thing...It can be very Annoying...The skip shift eliminator..is well worth it..Does your car have the Borg Warner or the Tremic 6 speed transmission...?? Or Something differnt..

It’s the Tremec TR-6060 six speed. It could definitely use a short throw shifter too. It’s on the wish list, but I’m doing a lot of the cheaper - bang for the buck mods first. I plan to keep this thing mostly stock.

Hmmmm….give a man a beer, and he will waste an hour. Teach a man to brew, and he will be wasted for a life time!

That's right, Vegans. Beer is vegan (I think) so drink up. You can wash down a lentil burger, beans, rice & tofu and still feel smug about it, only with beer you are actually enjoying yourself.
