I received my touch up bottle of Plum Crazy Purple paint and my skip shift eliminator from SpeedLogix for Violet in the mail today. It should only take 5-10 minutes to unplug the sensor on top of the transmission, put the eliminator in between the plugs and zip tie it in place. I suspect I’ll send more time jacking up the car and putting jack stands under it than the actual install.

  • Frosty collected his car this morning. Looks great! You must be so proud.

  • Frosty, you are now retired and with that there is a certain amount of dignity that you need to hang onto. Bumblebee stickers on a purple car screams 'undignified.' Girls will think you're a teenager.

I have just finished applying 5-6 coats of clear coat. Now I am waiting for it to set up and harden.

Did everyone read that? 5-10 mins.

Go on then - let us know how many torturous hours you spent contorted into a jellybean under the damn car trying to install that thing.

Where's the beer & popcorn?

Bastiches! The lot of you! You are as thick as manure and half as useful. You boys are sharp as a bowling ball! Thank you Captain Obvious!

Ah, the Scotsman in me feels better now......:D  Oh look! Beer!!

Saturday I had a few minutes to work on Violet. I installed the new "puddle lights" (from China sadly - grrr). It was as simple as popping out the old light, unplugging it, plug in the new one, and push it back into the door. A flat head screwdriver is all you need to pop it out.

Old puddle light - meh.

New puddle light - very cool!

I had to buy some zip ties for the shop. While I was at the parts store, I noticed they had a K&N air filter for the car, in stock and on the shelf. The stock paper filter is still really good but since it was there I grabbed it and installed it. I'm keeping the stock one as a spare.

In order to install my skip shift eliminator on Violet, I need to jack the car up to get to the transmission. The jacking instructs point to some indentations in the rocker panel. These are actually pinch welds. I am afraid jacking up there will bend or crush the pinch welds. However, I found a neat little item to help with that. On Amazon, they are called Large Slot Universal Magnetic Jack Pad Weld Frame Rail Adapter. They are $10 each, I bought four of them. This is what they look like.

Now I can place these over the pinch welds and jack the car up without fear of crushing anything. So, with luck, I’ll have the skip shift eliminator installed by end of this long weekend.

But first….beer!

Frosty..

Safety First...!!

Jacking the car up with a floor jack at the Proper points on the body..May not lift the car high enough to be able to put your Jack stands under a suitable place to set the car down on...As the suspension will completely Unload and you may Not have enough height to put the jack stands under a solid point...Such as under the rear axle...Or the lower Control arms... Or Frame rail...Where the jack stands need to be solidly located... in order for the car to be SAFELY high enough off the ground to be able to be easily accessible When crawling under it...I'm not trying to be any kind of a Smart Ass...But None of this stuff is Worth getting Hurt or Damaging the Unibody over....You might be better off to Jack the car up from the suspension to keep it loaded and be able to gain enough height to be able to slide the Jack stands under the Rear/Front.. Axle housing/Lower Control arms/Frame rail...Etc..For what it's worth...Justa My 2 cents

One other thing...The oil on the K&N air filter Can And will damage the the Mass Air flow (MAF) by eventually coating the The sensor wires and the inside of the MAF With the residual filter oil..Causing Premature Failure and Drivability issues for a negligible power gain if any at all...Again Justa my 2 cents..

TLBT..

I was finally able to make some time this afternoon to work on Violet. I finally had time to install the new Speedlogix skip shift eliminator. It allows the use of 2nd and 3rd gears, even at high revs and speed in 1st. Without it, at high revs and speed, it will force you to shift from 1st to 4th. The eliminator fools the skip solenoid. A light on the dash still goes off that it is skipping but it really still allows you to shift from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

I jacked the car up using my jacks, i definitely wanted to heed Two Lane's warning. I placed a jack stand at the end of the subframe connector so I had a solid point for safety. Let me say that it was cramped getting my hands up in the transmission tunnel with the jack stand on one side and the jack on the other. I had to crawl between the front jack and the jack stand to install the eliminator.

A simple long flat blade screwdriver will let you unplug the skip shift solenoid on the transmission.

IMG_2451-A.thumb.JPG.6cf067f6546200f9377f53441e66db3b.JPG

That was easy. Now the tough job. Plugging in the new skip shift eliminator. This job is easier on a hoist. Not so much lying on your back trying to get one or both of your hands in there at awkward - almost impossible - angles.

IMG_2453.thumb.JPG.161b1f03ec635f95fd6a340fdc3e5818.JPG

The job is half over. Now the real trick of plugging it back into the solenoid. Ugh. That was the toughest part.

Once I got the damn thing plugged in, I took it down off the jacks and jack stand and went for a small test drive. It works! I revved the thing to the moon, almost 4500 rpm in first and shifted cleanly into 2nd and then 3rd, repeatedly! So that is something else off my to do list for Violet.

I rest my case, but at least you got it done and it works first time.

I am sure Kiwi will enjoy this, as I'm sure most other gearheads who at least appreciate the Hemi. Now this is an interesting discussion why Stellantis is going to the twin turbo Hurricane motor. Cash is still king in this world.

I agree. The Hemi is a legendary icon of the automotive world. I was reading an article yesterday how the price of Challengers and Chargers went up over 20% from 2018 to the last call editions in 2023, this is much higher than just adjusting for inflation. A Scatpack went from $41k to $65k, for example. Many folks assumed that was, in part, of Stellantis passing on that cost. Not to mention the US federal gas guzzler tax you have to pay on these cars too.

I just found out some interesting piece of trivia. It would appear that of 13,768 R/T Scat Packs built in 2016, that Violet is one of 216 (US production, non-shaker hood package, Plum Crazy with a six-speed manual) or one of 342 (total US production Scat Packs in Plum Crazy and a six-speed), or one of 532 Non-shaker Scat Packs. That's cool....

I will cut and paste the table once i get back to my PC Kiwi.

1,286 Plum Crazy Hellcats were made in 2016, 154 with stripes, 1132 without stripes. No breakdown for export, transmission, or possible right hand drive. 11,995 total Heelcats were produced in 2016. Plum Crazy was the second most popular color for Hellcats behind Pitch Black. Black was almost three to one to Plum Crazy.
