I am going to throw this out to you guys for your opinion. Kiwi - I'd appreciate your thoughts since you are a fellow Challenger owner too.

I've always been in love with the original Plymouth 'Cuda and not so much the original Challenger. This comes from having Don Prudhomme and Tom McEwen as my drag racing heroes when I was a kid. So the '70 yellow 'Cuda funny car holds a special place in my heart and therefore by extension to the production '70 'Cuda too.

image.thumb.png.03a4c92ba5fe2c51dfe74855cf4420c8.png

Then came his second Cuda Funny Car, again cool.

image.png.a2eb44f4a92ed9de2aa8088de1b540e2.png

Now I see that there is now a 'Cuda grill kit for the Challengers that simulates the famous '71 Cuda grille. It runs about $350 US. So do you think it is worth getting? Here is what the grille looks like on a modern Challenger. What do you think? Should I add it to the wish list?

  • Frosty, you are now retired and with that there is a certain amount of dignity that you need to hang onto. Bumblebee stickers on a purple car screams 'undignified.' Girls will think you're a teenager.

I have just finished applying 5-6 coats of clear coat. Now I am waiting for it to set up and harden.

For what it's worth - this is what a stock '71 Cuda in Inviolet looks like. Inviolet is the Plymouth name for Plum Crazy Purple.

Personally I've never really been a fan of the One Year only..71 Cuda Grill...They're all cool cars...

Your car...Your Money...You can do Whatever you want...Either way I won't be Mad at you..🙂

Justa thought...

A Plymouth Road Runner....Meep Beeb  Horn/Horns..Might be a nice subtle way to pay Homage to the (High Impact Color) Plymouth Heritage...Of the Late 60s..Early 70s..🤔🤔

I still have mine packed away somewhere in the garage mahal. Sometime later Mattel came out with either a 1:24 or 1:18 scale set of both cars. I have those too! I have since met Don. Awesome guy!

Interesting idea. I could have the Roadrunner and Kiwi can have the Tasmanian Devil!

Thanks Kiwi.

Problem is I do fancy the white billboards vs the black. I think black is over done sometimes. Doing the white  makes it pop against the purple or any dark color. Black against a bright color:makes sense to me too. I have seen a black Cuda with black billboards. That makes very little sense to me, but to each their own.

I'm sure my opinion counts for nothing but I'd like to chime in. Why mess with what the designers came up with? They pay designers an awful lot of money to come up with cohesive designs & elements. Leave it alone and spend the bucks on something useful...like beer & pizza.

The Cuda grille belongs on a Cuda.

FItzy - your opinion is fair dinkum mate. I did ask the question, I do expect varied responses.

While I agree with you that they pay designers a lot of money, it doesn't mean they are necessarily good designs. Take the Cybertruck for example. Someone mated an Aztek to a DeLorean and got a butt ugly vehicle.

I would also argue that many designers don't live in the same world that you and I do. I was fortunate to know a former GM designer and I have been to GM's Design Staff studio a couple of times in my career. The most glaring example I can give you was when I visited the Buick studio. We were in the hall way between studios. These hall ways between studios are super wide so that full size cars and trucks can be moved with ease around the building and still have room for people to walk around them. On this visit, they were pulling a Chevy Astro van into the Chevy truck studio. It had been painted a very unique teal/turquoise, almost neon, color. Very different. The designer walking with it was wearing identically color matched clothes! OMG. These people think they are "ARTEESTS" and not designers and management caters to their eccentric egos and quirks. Is is a very different part of the automotive world for sure.

Well said. I'm sure not ALL designers come to work colour matched BUT my mother was an artist and was a total weirdo, so I'm sure weirdness comes with the job.

Anyway, I personally think that grille is quite jarring and doesn't suit the car at all. Don't even think of getting one.

Don't make me come over there...

Oh, and 350 clams for a chunk of moulded plastic??? Move on. You can thank me over breakfast at Tony's as I attempt to hoover a pound of bacon.

Disclaimer: I will NOT be eating a pound of bacon unless I have a death wish which I don't yet, unless the GP breaks down somewhere. Perhaps the weight of bacon consumed correlates to what sort of day you're having.

Okay, the nine egg bacon and cheese omelette it is, with a side of bacon! It won’t be a pound of bacon, it JUSTA feels that way. You have to get your heart attack on a plate special at some point to your visit here mate.

"Come to Tony's - Home Of The Cheap Heart Attack."

I like it.

Kiwi - start packing. Tell the Boss you have a toilet to unblock in Michigan. Come to think of it, due to the average American diet you may well have a toilet to unblock.

Frankenmuth also has Zenders world famous chicken as well.  Tony's and a walk downtown to the brewery, hit the shops til hungry and finish with Zenders and Bonners (Christmas all year) on the way out of town. Or spend the night in the Bavarion Inn and do Tony's again in the AM.

It’s 34 F and sunny out today, but I unplugged Violet’s battery tender and took her winter blanket off of her at lunch time. I drove her home with some gusto. It was nice to bang shift some gears for a change. I have a reason for doing this though…..

I would love yo have 90 right now!

Here is why Violet is loose……

….she is getting new shoes! These are the original 245/45R20s with low miles but they are nine years old!

GE recommended the Continental Extreme Contacts. I went with the 275/40R20s. This was an optional size Dodge put on these cars. The wide bodies can run even wider -a 305 or 315.

Everyone on YouTube and online all say the Challengers and Chargers need more tire to handle the power, even NA, than the stock 245s can handle. The 275s are the same height but another 1.25-1.50 inch wider than the 245s.

275 on the left, 245 on the right.
