  • Frosty collected his car this morning. Looks great! You must be so proud.

  • Frosty, you are now retired and with that there is a certain amount of dignity that you need to hang onto. Bumblebee stickers on a purple car screams 'undignified.' Girls will think you're a teenager.

I have just finished applying 5-6 coats of clear coat. Now I am waiting for it to set up and harden.

Fitzy - The needs of the many outweighs the needs of the few, or the one!

TOTALLY WORTH IT! :driving:

Hey - you could do worse than baked beans. I also love them, on toast & cheese with seasoned with black pepper & cayenne. Almost worth owning an old car just to eat dem beans. As for the tap water...once it's mixed with yeast and some hops & malt have gone in, it turns out real good.

I just ordered a Hellcat SRT Lower Air Intake box, an aFe Power Dynamic Air Scoop, a set of Scatpack / Superbee logo ghost/puddle lights for the Challenger. The air intake replaces the stock Scatpack lower air box. The only significant difference is that Hellcat box has a hole in it for the air scoop to connected between the lower air box and the 'soon to be opened' air duct in the driver's side turn signal.

This is cheaper than a true cold air intake and it does help lower the ambient air temperature of the air going into the engine. So it might be worth 1-2 HP but what's cool to me is that is essentially ram air. That's always cool. I will eventually get a K&N reusable air filter too, but I will wait a while before since the stock filter still has some mileage left on it.

Only other mod I want to make in the short term is an oil catch can.

Longer term will be strut tower braces front and rear and perhaps a set of subframe connectors to stiffen the car for better handling purposes. This car really doesn't need much else in the way of mods.

My Hellcat lower intake air box showed up today. IMG_1472.thumb.jpeg.259e3e7227f9824f6e2608688510df7e.jpeg

Obviously this is not how it shipped but the air box was okay. I had already received the air scoop.

I took the air box and scoop to the garage mahal and went about installing it. It took less than 30 minutes.

I started with this -the stock air cleaner and box.

IMG_1479.thumb.jpeg.4ccdeae3f7e616f23714e5636843a71f.jpeg

First remove the plastic trim.

IMG_1480.thumb.jpeg.3a1d105e3f151e285aadd9219d0a224f.jpeg

Remove the top of the air cleaner and air filter next.

IMG_1481.thumb.jpeg.8bcdb49eb3e34765d8483f5c3074051c.jpeg

Remove the single 8 mm bolt and remove the lower air box.

IMG_1482.thumb.jpeg.3d4e63764e9192bb7665521e8ac40fb4.jpeg

The old box has foam in two places, along the bottom, the new box has none. I stopped at Menards and paid $5 for some rubberized foam strip. I used it on the new air box in the same two places.

IMG_1483.thumb.jpeg.f1e5a011fa45cfe5d7ee9357db495a50.jpeg

Comparing the two air boxes, the Hellcat is a little bigger but the big difference is the hole for the air scoop to attach to it . I have to transfer the 8 mm grommet and cap from the old box to the new box.

IMG_1484.thumb.jpeg.586c7e189fed63569af8108486a10178.jpegIMG_1485.thumb.jpeg.a29eeebbfc299ce270e6df9810dc4702.jpeg

Now I have to remove the cap plug in the driver’s side turn signal. I’m lucky in that my Challenger has the cap held in with three little prongs that you can stick your hand in and easily release. Newer models have retaining screws that are a Lot harder to remove. IMG_1486.thumb.jpeg.97b6721d405d42a1ee45ff873f6d4f8c.jpegIMG_1487.thumb.jpeg.d04afd3fcffaa5ff9861ec4481401726.jpeg

Now the path is open to the engine bay.

IMG_1488.thumb.jpeg.269ad122c22ebb86ac746c969da760c3.jpeg

Now slide the air scoop in and plug it into the new lower air box.

IMG_1489.thumb.jpeg.d95e8b6d9a1f550741dd139e74839445.jpeg

Install the air filter, screw the upper cover back on, and put the plastic cover back. All done!

Frosty

did it make any difference to the sound ? I would think you would hear more of the engine with the low restriction intake ?

Interesting question Kiwi. I don't know yet. I haven't started the car with it on yet. I will later tonight since I have to move cars around in the garage mahal.  I plan to take the Challenger to Roadkill Nights Presented by Dodge tomorrow.

I will let you know once I've driven it.

I took the Challenger out for a car wash tonight. I didn’t notice too much sound difference but I was not on the highway either. I’m taking it to Roaskill Nights, so I will check some more.

Is Roaskill a new one I don't know about? :pop_corn:

It’s been going on for nine years dude. Not sure where you’ve been. It’s the week BEFORE Woodward. It is street legal drag racing on Wooodward, except for this year.

Most definitely! Burn outs are done in drag racing, so yes, we technically roast tires too!

I am still waiting for my new puddle lights to show up for the Challenger. According to Amazon it should come next week - while I am in South Carolina.  Greeeaaat!

Hopefully a tornado doesn't set ya back like my order. LOL

No kidding! It’s weird that the cheapest part I bought for the Challenger thus far is taking the longest to get here.

I thought you were down south??  Missed a great show/weather today.

Yes I am in South Carolina this week. I ordered the puddle lights when I ordered the Hellcat lower air box and air scoop.  They’ve already been delivered and installed. The puddle lights were $20 and I’m still waiting.

I order more parts for the Challenger. It’s the last of the cheap mods I suspect. I ordered a new 180 degree thermostat from MotoRad. The are are designed so if they ever fail, it will always fail open, never closed. I also ordered an oil catch can. They are expected to arrive the Tuesday after Labor Day. This is about $60 USD with free shipping from Amazon.

After this will be front and rear strut tower braces and bolt on subframe connectors. Each of these are about $250 and up each. I might also look for a short throw shifter, but again, not cheap. I also need to check the date of the tires. If they are originals, then they are 8 years old and should be replaced for safety reasons. That is an easy $1000-1500.

what’s that old expression?

If it has t*ts or tires, eventually you WILL have problems with it!
