Ok, so I messed with the damn wheel for hours, tryin everything I could think of, finally thought screw it. Loosened the lugs so they were not touching. Drove like an idiot over 4 miles on back /dirt roads hittin bumps, peeling out doughnuts left and right turns, lock up the brakes and finally a hard turn onto pavement, tires on fire and clunk, the rim let go of the rotor. Have myself so damn sore. Will do the brakes tomorrow. So glad to be over the hump. Have to say I stopped and checked the lugs alot so I didn't loose them and to loosin them up again a couple times they got tight. Plan on coating the new rotor contact point with grease before putting it all together again. Unless somebody has a better idea? Anti seize?

Definitely anti-sieze.

I use VersaChem Type 13 copper Anti-Sieze on my 2019 truck wheels. Aluminum wheels/iron rotors. First time I went to rotate the tires I had a hell of a time breaking them free. Haven't had any stuck wheels since using the Anti-Sieze.

Use sparingly though. First time I applied a bit too much and I had spooge everywhere on the inside of the rims.

Determine your wheel/drum rotor compositions then ask Uncle Google what might be the best compound to use.

i ran to the grocery store this afternoon to return pop cans and get some food items. I found these Hot Wheels in the dollar bin.

I had the same fun you had Justa. however when i took a sledgehammer to beat on the tire i smashed a ABS sensor. (our Toyota Tundra) that was a fun job. it also lit almost every warning light on the dash. And yea i use Anti seize.

You used anti seize before and they still stuck?

Zip Zap Zowee Cool find

Frosty said he went to the store to return, ahem 'pop' cans' and buy some 'food.' It's okay Frosty - you're amongst friends here. You swapped empty beer cans for gasoline, didn't you?

In Oz, we're paying $2.60 a litre now. Diesel is over $3 a litre. So, what did I do to my car today? I didn't drive it, that's what.

I had to give up and took the truck back in after not being able to bust loose the caliper brackets on either side of the rear brakes. Shop had hell of a time getting everything loose on the front as well. So then the rotors sent me were wrong He had to order from local parts shop and the front caliper was bad. Now Detroit axle did me a favor and waved the restock fee's, but I have to pay for return on the 4 rotors. Trying to understand what the company rep was saying while going through this was a game all in itself. Guess I won't be ordering from them again. My shop owner said he wasn't surprized when he heard where the parts came from. Detroit axle doesn't have a good rep for a reason.

How’d you know? Is it that obvious?!

I have a dilemma now. Beer is now cheaper than gas. So I think I should drink and not drive. That means beer runs become significant emotional events!

Replaced the battery in the boss’ ‘22 Blazer today and gooooollllllyy engineers are getting too cheeky in newer cars. Had like 20 things on the battery I had to take off before I could actually remove the battery. A fuse box, wiring, a cross brace bar, some type of computer module, and more. Not like spacing or mounting area is hard to come by in the engine bay either. Think it took my 30 min just to get the damn stuff off the battery.

Thank god won’t need to do that for a few more years. Stupid batteries barely last 3 years in Florida. This one least lasted 4.

Damn shame. Detroit axle isn’t the same company they used to be. Got sold I believe about 4 or 5 years ago.

Ringo you might try an AGM battery. They last longer, have a deeper cycle. All that crap on the battery is designed by a moron engineer who thinks they can build a better system that protects itself! Guess what? It doesn’t work. They still go dead, they still short, they still overcharge, etc. Guess the old timers design from 100 years ago was good enough!

Did you need to tell the computer that it had a new battery ?

most the new stuff has a bms system that you have to reset or it will kill your new battery !

I justA had to replace the battery in the 59 ! It was 12 years old !!!!!!

I know what you mean Kiwi, the Optima in Lucy only lasted over a decade.

The Blazer doesn’t have a bms from what I can tell in the owners manual or online so guess we’ll see.

The battery in the Camaro is in the trunk and that lasted 10 years as a normal AC Delco I believe. Reduced heat back there out of the engine bay swear helps cause it isn’t an AGM.

I took a little trip yesterday. Anyone wanna guess where I went? I suspect Indyman and Justa know where I was.

Don’t know, but literally the second I opened your post I knew what subframe that was! Too many years under my Z not to! So obviously NPD? Ask em if they want to sell the subframe & the body!

  • Popular Post

NPD is correct!!!!!

Zoom in on the signs. $18k for the body and $10.3k for the subframe.

IMG_5545.jpeg

That’s a bit of you frosty !!!

You don’t have a gen 1 f body

I finely worked out why I can’t get on npd web site !!!

They are blocking international hits !

Which sucks !

That does suck !

Need a catalog Kiwi? I think I can download an electronic copy of it. GTO/Lemans/Tempest is one catalog. Firebird and Camaro are separate catalogs. Let me know what you’re looking for.

Well, that’s on the expensive side! In 1969 a Z was about $3600 depending on other options. That extrapolates to about$33,000 today, but I still need a ton of stuff plus the labor. Engine, tranny, rear axle, suspension, interior, wiring, lights, etc. etc.. probably looking at $100,000 or more! WOW! That’s crazy! Might as well buy one finished.

Yeah, these Dynacorn bodies are not cheap! However you are starting with a rust free shell. You can order them with wider than stock rear wheel tubs too.

Buying a complete car for less than $100k is a smart move, unless you are restoring something's like a COPO Camaro.

Frosty, It's been awhile since I've posted on forum! Open heart surgery at Cleveland Clinic in January ( bypass and pig valve ) but went back to work April 1 and got the Bonney's rear shoes put on, new rear tires, and rear axle seal replaced! Oil and filter and front brakes adjusted Good to go for the season!! Took her out to Watkins Glenn International for opening day and had a BLAST!! 3 laps on the road course ( with pace car ) but still hit 90 mph on front straightaway!! What Fun !!
