Wayne - got any recommendations re Alaska cruise? It's on our "gotta do" list. Holland America seem to have a good rep.

This was our first cruise ever!! Did Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Sea ! BIG BOAT!! Had a great time, alot of shore excursions which can run up the price, but this was for our 50th anniversary so we splurged a little bit! Not sure what I would recommend.

Celebrity Cruise lines were fantastic.  Set up the land tour and dropped us at the dock to board the ship.  Celebrity is an older folks cruise without all the kids running around.  When your trapped on a bus or train, kids can sure get on your last nerve.  #1 tip... Get a balcony and shoot for mid ship.  You don't feel the ROCK mid ship.  The 24/7 shot at pictures of whales, Glaciers, scenery, Northern lights over the ocean is stunning!!!

Justa, You're right on Balcony and mid ship !! we had that and it was Great !

This all hasn't been today today, but...whatever🤷‍♂️ It has been done very recently.

While my sway bar is down in Sydney (getting a 27mm one made) I've replaced my high beam floor switch, finally got the original horn working properly (in the end the little part I made up wasn't ideal - the horn kept going off at a certain point every time the wheel was turned 😆). I ordered a part and modified it a little suit and it now works well. Also have replaced the dodgy ignition barrel (and both front door locks (all keys alike).

Hopefully the sway bar will be here next time I'm home - old mate K-Mac Kev told me it would be 2 weeks, 3 weeks ago...

Changed spark plugs and put on new spring type battery cables. Getting ready to install power windows as an upgrade to the old girl...lol.

Been doing engine bay work in between installing the power windows. I can't make up my mind which tripower air cleaner I like better...the black lid or the chrome lid. Which one do you all think looks better on the car. Black lid on the left. Chrome lid in the middle and right pictures. Kind of hard to tell with the glare.

Also, put in a remote battery kill switch. Looks a lot better than the manual knob cut off switch, and I don't have to keep raising the hood before starting or parking the car.

So, opinions on the lid. Black or Chrome. Thanks, Rick

Black for me Rick, its timeless and factory like

If the engine bay is black, I'd go chrome. It's a feature and most probably the first thing anyone looks at when you pop the hood. Yes, Kiwi is right - black is factory but I reckon it needs a decal or something to set it off.

  • Popular Post

I’m a bad examples to answer the question. I’m picking black for the factory look as well. That said my Lemans came with chrome air cleaner lid, it was a factory and an over the dealer counter item back in the day.

  • Popular Post

I’d stay black as well (once you go black you won’t go back🤷🏼‍♂️), but agree a factory style decal will set it off.

I’m not really a fan of chrome though, so maybe biased 🧐

I found and ordered an original trunk lid dealer badge on Ebay for my 70 Catalina - for $38.00 plus tax, no shipping.  The build sheet indicated that the "Ernie Miller Pontiac" dealership near Tulsa, Oklahoma was where my Cat was delivered.

I personally prefer the black lid.  As for the sticker, this is the only one that is correct, there never was any on the lid.  And while I am certainly not a purist, I would not want a Buick-style cubic inch sticker (like so many other Pontiac owners seem enamored with) on my car.

All that being said,  it’s your car, your choice and we will all respect your decision.👍

Well, well.

After too many weeks (7!) my heavy duty sway bar showed up today, so what else could I do but drop everything else I had planned and fit it 🤷‍♂️

Very happy with the result - it makes a massive difference to the car, which now sits quite flat when going around corners and roundabouts. Who-hoo 🤙

Photos attached for those that like 'em 😁

nice work Paul

is it a 25 mm one ?

28mm, so pretty solid.

Original was 22mm, but well worn I'd say.

Another minor improvement, now that I have time to do such things.

@64 kiwi boni advised me to fit a PCV when I was having issues with oil weep after the heads had been rebuilt. I decided to change the rocker covers and installed a new filter in the draft tube hole -  thought it was all sorted, but I've still been experiencing some minor weeping (although more of a nuisance now than a fire hazard 🤣)

Anyhoo, today I retrofitted a PCV system to my motor. And very neatly too, imo 🤗. Will wait until tomorrow to test it out, but no expecting any dramas. Photos attached for your reference (or comment🤷‍♂️)

I'm experiencing some squeaks from my new sway bar install (poly bushes). NoI didn't grease them prior to install, but I'm thinking I may have to do this? I imagine I should check & retention anyway now it's done a few miles.

JUSTA follow up on my pcv install.

No oil weeping from my filler caps, and significant;y less fumes when idling hot in traffic. I'm claiming success on this one 😁

However, as advised I removed sway bar bushes and applied rubber grease, retightened the bar end links, greased all the pivot points, and gave everything else I could see a healthy spray of WD40. Damn thing is still squeaking 🤬 But the car rides and corners soooo much better and the noise isn't obvious when I'm driving it, so I've decided I don't care! Can't win every battle 🤷‍♂️

justA in case Paul pop the end caps off the arm tops and grease them, ensure they are tight when you do up the bolts again too, some times a a arm inner bush can cause a sqeek

usually its those saddle bushings that do it

Finally finished installing the power vent windows in the '60 Ventura. Took me about 8 hours total work time. It would probably take a more able bodied person around 4-6 hours...lol. Also held up by a bad driver's side switch (brand new, but bad). If you ever do a conversion, always do a continuity check on your components. It'll save you a lot of time with scratching your head and back tracking your work....lol.

Finally got the engine bay wiring mess cleaned up. Redid the wiring, put in a blade type battery cut-off, and since the Classic Turbostart batteries are on back order (four months and running since placing order), made the battery like they were back in the day.

Very nice..... thankz for sharing the pic's.

Likewise. Looks good.

Question, is the radiator shroud factory or is that something you added?

Ken

Ken,

I did not add the shroud. Already on the car when I brought. I'm not sure if the 1960 Pontiacs came with the radiator shroud. I know that the finger guard is correct.
