Once upon a time up here in Far North Queensland you expected at least one cyclone per year. Floods and insane weather were par for the course. As time has moved on (climate change, anyone?) it seems the rules have changed. Places that are not normally associated with extreme weather are now experiencing such events. Poor old NZ isn't used to cyclones & flooding, and yet what a bad start to the year for them. In direct contrast, here in north Queensland we get the occasional full on thunderstorm but it's nothing compared to what was an expectation in the past. Anyway, Kiwi's all right and as soon as he has that motley collection of shitboxes moved from his backyard, life can go on.

Oh, and before anyone gets frothy at the mouth and wants to give me a serve, no I am not a climate change believer. Things HAVE changed, but it's just the planet doing it's thing.

I once ran into a website that tracked magazine articles/ covers starting in 1900 and going to about ten years ago which is when I ran into it.Ā  Every decade it cycled, we are going to freeze, we are going to boil, freeze, boil etc as the planet cycled. I should have printed it out but didn't and have never been able to find it again. It was an interesting read. I would love to find it again as my daughter ( chicken little) runs around screaming the sky is falling to shove it under her nose.Ā

Someone, I believe it was one of our friends from down under, posted a picture of a narrow spit of land with water on both sides from 99 years ago and a current picture of the same spit of land today. Water level is the same. I showed it to my daughter and said if all the ice caps and glaciers are melting where is the water going? The sea level is the same as it was a century ago.Ā

Her response? How do you know the picture wasn't photoshopped! WHAT?

I just let her rant.

I just got home (a day early this week) and am catching up.

Happy Birthday! New fancy mower, fancy leaf blower, fancy vittles...what a hoot! My own GTMow is also a 48 incher and it makes a LOT of difference. I don't suppose you were lucky enough to have that JD fitted with a Kawasaki engine? Won't matter - just look after it and it'll probably go forever. Most peeps treat outdoor garden equipment with total disdain, but you won't.Ā
