I'm surprised it's grease Joe. I would have thought it would have been hard-earned-Indyman Joe-applied undercoating -  finding it's way into those tiny crevasses!

Sorry to hear about your car-cleaning hand/elbow injuries. I hope you can still turn the key!

Cruise went fine.  Slight backfire in exhaust.  Thinkin a lil too much timing, but runs good.  About 180 temp til I stopped for gas. Then shot up to 220. That's over water boiling point.  Funny part was back to the dirt roads and idling in, the temp dropped back down around 160 which is what the thermostate is.  I believe??  Should have had this sorted out weeks ago.  Always something. This is the new and old carb. This view NEVER gets old!  Sunoco Ultra.  $4.95 gal. UGH

Could be worse. It could be race gas or aviation fuel! That's close to what I pay for ethanol free gas for my lawn mower, weed whacker, and leaf blower.

Pulled apart the block of the JUNK V6.  Never found a problem. No cracked heads, blown gaskets, holes in pistons, nothing.  Pulled the pistons and low and behold famous for eating pistons, hole # 6 take a bow.  2 busted rings.  Not to be out done #1 step up in the spotlight, busted out about 2 in of the ring land in the piston and busted a ring. Kept the crank and cam as they were perfect.  Should keep the block!  But I have one.  Can get rid of a bunch more scrap metal/parts for everything from Lawn tractors to car parts.  Momma will be so happy.  So will my metal scrapper!

THANK THE BIG GUY!  We had 6 tornado's in lower mitten.  Constant lightning for hours. Whatta light show.  Boss had some minor surgery today spent about 3 hrs in Flint today and nowhere near the new bricks. Got our power back after 23hrs.  Generator is so damn loud,  so glad to have it!

Steve . Is that normal for where you are ?????

No,  we do have alot of severe thunderstorms that have the chance to become Tornado's but this is some sort of record.

Finally figured out the Bird's backfire. Have backed the timing off twice, Read the plugs, pulled the cap N rotor, cleaned all contacts. Actually hooked up the timing light and I'm down to 6 degrees.  My new custom plug wires came and I built them to fit.  No change.  Had already wired the electric choke open.  I don't use it.  How am I getting raw gas in the exhaust?  If the timing chain marks were off, it wouldn't be running.  After checking the coil, last thing I could think of was the vacume secondary.  NOT Set up for the blower.  In true Roadkill form I ziptied the secondary shut and took er for one last ride.  I have to idle over a mile to reach paved roads or get back home. Slight bog from the timing backed off so far, but no CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG.  Sooo happy.  Will have to order a spring kit for the vacume secondary, Tuesday.  Need the stiffest. Then I remembered 39 years ago I changed that out and I bought the chrome kit for the Vac 2nd at the same time.  DUH..... Almost have the Sunbird back where she belongs. Packed N ready to go for tomorrow AM. Suppose to be in the 90's and set records tomorrow, but no rain.:dancingpontiac:

SO Happy you got her figured out!! Good job!!
