As in how the flushed toilet bowl water flows in the backwards direction in the Southern Hemisphere, do you need some oddball backwards fuel pump in the Southern Hemisphere that Tanks, Inc doesn't stock????

LOL . . . . .

No

water certainly goes the same way 😜

my last efi system I built I did a pump in the tank from tanks inc and I wanted to to the same

run 2 new fuel lines one feed one return and use a corvette regulator to the ls 2

reason I did this was to keep the pump cool, reduce noise and not have a awful low pressure / high pressure  separate tank in the trunk

What are your thoughts on it ? Have you done a single line system ?

I certainly understand the pump noise being less inside the tank and the pump living longer.   Yes, I'm the same as you running an in tank Walbro in my El Camino and the Catalina - using the Corvette regulator / filter assembly.

Have you thought about the link below?  This would modify your wagon tank to accept an in tank pump. I consider it expensive but useful as a last resort.

yes i did see that unit but your paying for thre name ! the tanks inc one was a third of the price and what i did with last pump was i brazed the ring into the old tank and then simply bolted in the head unit with its gasket

i think i will need to find a dealer who sells tanks inc gear and buy one that way, clearly they are not letting international customers on their web site or email which sucks

I don't see any phone numbers brother Justa. Is this one of those "it's the thought that counts" moments?

progress today ! the engine loom arrived from my sparky for the l98 and 6l80e

  • Author

I had my sparky cover the loom in braid sheathing

it has extra wires for oil and temp gauges along with Speedo signal wire and is a simple 4 wire hook up now , 2 fan wiring too.

Extra length on the gas pedal for left hand installation , intake air sensor that deletes the maf sensors

and a up grade tune in the ecu

IMG_5267.jpeg

Also I am upgrading the balancer to a 25 % under driven unit for more power

IMG_5268.jpeg

While studying up on 68 gto parts i have thought about if there is a quick ratio steering box that would bolt into the 63 .

has anyone done this too their b body ?

Aww not cheap at all ! I am wondering if they are the same as the gen 3 f body ones that I am looking at for the 68 ?

even rock auto has re man ones for a fraction of the opg unit

hmm I might call my steering guy

Pg hydralucs in Auckland can upgrade the factory box to quick ratio and add better road feel to it also 👍

so that’s the path I will be taking for the 63 ! They will rebuild the pump at the same time and supply brand new hoses

I made a start on installing the L98 engine today

first was to get the sump swapped over , this  came out of a Holden , state side it would be a g8 2009 l98 with 6l80 trans …

but first things first . I used the 64 to get a chassis angle and to see how much room I have for the trans cross member …

64 has 1 degree in the frame rail …

IMG_5633.jpeg

Then a measure under side shows not a lot of room above the factory cross member … all to be noted when making parts for the 63 …

IMG_5636.jpeg

IMG_5630.jpeg

IMG_5631.jpeg

so off with the great big sump that  sooo won’t fit the 63 and on with the way smaller version

The Holden sump had the dip stick coming up out of the sump , the new sump came with everything needed including a new pick up bolts and dipstick that passes down through the block into the smaller sump ,,, there is a plugged hole on the passenger side that you need to drive out the plug from underside … BEFORE FITTING THE NEW SUMP !

which of course I didn’t , so I got 2 goes at fitting the new sump 🤪

Next was to see if my Ls to Chev adaptor mounts would line up to what was already on the 63 frame ,,, this wagon used to have a big block Chev in it ,,,

check out the pictures , no way was it going to line up ! To short and too far back

Using my lazer and a digital level I could see where my fire wall was going to lay in respect to the motor . Before removing the body from the chassis I marked the fire wall location on the frame

IMG_5645.jpeg

IMG_5646.jpeg

And the Milwaukee level on the tail shaft to get my 3 degrees

While I had the level out I put it on the 12 bolt diff , and it’s sooo wrong !!! 6 degrees facing down !!! Which means I will need to completely redo the rear axle mounts !!!
they look to be badly made , and I am not happy with the mounts . So that will be in my list after the motor is mounted

IMG_5647.jpeg

With the motor set where I want it at 3 degrees I utilised the lazer again to give me a in site to the trans ground clearance

the green line showing in the trans sump corresponds to the bottom line of the frame rails , which means I have it set justA right , 30mm hanging down from the rail line , I went and compared this to my factory trans in the 64 and she’s exactly that amount too .

Great work. Frankly I am impressed that he held beer o’clock at bay for that long and got that much done. It’s like his family left him alone in the garage unsupervised! Nice work Kiwi!

Ah no ! Grand kids were here all day ! Hence not getting much done frosty !!!
and the beers certainly could have come a lot earlier , temperatures have been in the  30’s and working in a tin shed it’s even hotter !

Well the garage mahal is insulated but it still gets cold! Its 35F inside even though its 22F outside with wind chills near zero. It’s still too cold to work on inside

Nothing like lying on your back on a near freezing cement floor to wick heat from your body! No thanks, i will wait for warmer weather.

i had made a tow coupling while i am draging the frame in and out of the shed .. makes it easy to drag around with the tractor ... till she able to run by here self !!
