Frosty's Garage Mahal

Round up the kid and make him swear the cell phone doesn't work there right from the start!!!!

This sounds like the voice of experience, and damn good advice. You know you're on the road to success when you get home after each session in the shed and some of your wife's scrapbooking stuff has magically migrated into the spots that you once occupied. You'll eventually be squeezed out and you'll just stay in the shed. That mezzanine is just screaming for a nice big comfy bed and a telly. Then you can blame "that bitch" for making you feel unwanted and so for the sake of your fragile mental wellbeing, you decided that we should start seeing other cars, I mean people.

Some progress on the garage mahal this week. Insulation guys final were able to come out.

Foam insulation on the front and back walls, as well as the garage door itself.

The light fixtures are up as well, except for under the mezzanine. New electrical has to be run under there still.

The light fixtures are LEDs, the cast about 7000 Lumens each, according the box anyway.

They had to take down part of the steel ceiling front and back for the foam insulation. That was completed on Wednesday.

Yesterday most of the steel wall and ceiling are up, except for one corner of the garage. Blown insulation in the ceiling is next. That should happen today or Tuesday.

I don't have to bend or stoop my head while on the mezzanine, but I do have to be careful to not walk into the light fixtures. SO there is a decent amount of head room up there.

Electrical for the light fixtures under the mezzanine has now been run as well, but it is not 100% hooked up to the breaker panel yet. I will need to get 3 more light fixtures for underneath the mezzanine.

Several electrical outlets still also need to be finished as well. I have 110V on all 4 walls. I also have 3-220V outlets in case I decide to buy a high voltage welder in the future, or I need 220 for something else.

I still need to figure out how to route shop air and water. I am looking at using RapidAir kits for the shop air. Not sure yet on what to use to route the water. It's a pretty "stupid" arrangement if you ask me. I will try to remember to take a picture of it the next time I am there.

The professional work on the garage mahal is nearly done. Walls are complete, insulation is done. Only thing left is we've decided to rotate the stairway 90 degrees. Last night Jacob and I installed LED lights underneath the mezzanine.

I have also start my thrash on Lucy for next week's car show in WV.

Thanks mate! The kid has started painting the wood around the mezzanine while I thrash on Lucy. It will definitely need two coats. I called a local concrete company for a recommendation on an inexpensive yet effective concrete sealer. They recommended one that will cover all 1500 sq. ft, in 5-gallons but they are sold out and it will take two weeks to get a new stock in! Grrr!!!!

I am anxious to start moving stuff out of the old storage units. First of all, it's time with this new garage in my life. Second the storage facility where I keep Lucy and the Roadmonster are upping the rates again and the facility has been bought out and the new owners want renters to provide proof of content insurance too. So time to get the hell out.

OH! Cool a swinging bed! I hope the bed & tv swing in unison! Otherwise you might get motion sickness!
The place looks great Frosty! Any planes for heat!

Seriously, since there is no provision at this time for natural gas, I am thinking of some sort of electric salamander or perhaps some small portable propane heat. First choice is electric since I have the electrical already run through out the garage, I just need to purchase some sort of heater. The insulation is already making a difference. I can feel it just working this past week, when the nights have cooled down outside, it has remained warm inside.

Frosty, all i can say is I'm jealous. what an awesome shop, to get rid of  a storage place that you rent and probably are not allowed to work in either and to get your own place that you can do what ever you want with.

For heating have you ever looked at the mini-split A/C  heating systems? very popular in Europe where they don't have any natural gas and for houses that only had electric radiators when new, have quite a few friends and family over there that use this in houses and garages, i'm actually going to have one installed in our front family room this fall also.

I have heard numbers when compared to electric radiators or electric fan heaters that for every unit of electricity you put in to a mini-split type system you get 3 times the out put compared and they pay for themself  pretty fast and you get A/C at the same time.

Did you see the info from the intake guy?

Andy - honestly, I have not looked into it just yet. Right now I'm sort of winging it. I'm busting my butt thrashing on Lucy (a loosing cause at the moment), and getting the garage finished so I can prep the floor before I start moving in, in earnest. All that is left is to finish the stairs.

First and second coats of concrete sealer are now applied. Time to start moving in earnest! Jacob and I made at least four trips this weekend moving stuff. Car parts are on the mezzanine now. Tools are now arriving.
