  • This brought back memories. My mate turned up at my place (drunk) and so, of course we had some more. Then it was time to go somewhere but he was too wasted to drive, so it was deemed more responsible

last sat we took a cruise to lowells mi. we love this covered bridge in fallasburg park. as we pulled in there was justa 66 gto sitting there so we pulled up next to him and his mrs. shot the breeze then seen this lemans sport convertible coming over the bridge! the only cars we seen here this day are Pontiacs! Really nice couple didnt get names but we chatted for an hour ish. then they told us of another covered bridge 4miles away on some dirt roads. WTH so we checked that one out as well. never knew it was in the area. as we leave theres  a guy with a newer mustang and his buddy with a new corvette, one of them yells wanna trade? Michelle yelled back instantaneously  "HELL NO not for both of your cars" I looked at her like damn woman that was mean! But unless ya know Michelle she isnt short on her feelings LOL

So Onondaga was a bust wont go into that nightmare. However i did get a quickjack lift system delivered sat. so after a couple hours the Lemans Got a small lift job. So far so good. it feels safe and i get alot of room to do stuff as needed. was tired of jacking and cribbing all four corners to get it high enough to work on then undoing what took all day to do...time will tell.

Joe, you will have to tell me the Onondaga story another time. I love the lift dude! I am sucker for any picture with Remi!!! Remi looks warm and comfy (and spoiled like every good dog should be).

I loved the covered bridge too. I need to get the location from you and Michelle on that. Perhaps Nancy and I can head up there.

So for the never ending Michigan noobie thread lol here some pics from this past sat. Milan Dragway daily driver race. which i found out also was a pour your own puddle. I had no puddles to pour so i used other peoples puddles LOL

Started as a 60 mile cruise to weed out the track cars trailer queens. by the end of the day we drove 220 miles from milford to milan etc and home again. Had a great time. got past a nitrous newer mustang in the first round then a new ZL1 camaro got me in the second round....I did my Burnout and it took him 4-5 minutes to do his. meanwhile my tires cooled down and i spun off the line. Drivers meeting next time, this will be brought up. Not complaining but after several people at the track pointed out the obvious to me and michelle we wont let that happen again. lesson learned.

The new fuel pump is working perfectly! never once nosed over even at the 1/4 mile marker. this race was a no time,no et flashlight on race. Street outlaws type.

we had the second oldest car there other than the futura? in one of the pics. still had a blast and will be doing this again. met alot of cool people who loved the ole Pontiac. Driveshaft loop is gonna be here thursday and installed with pics this weekend. going to do a full tune up this weekend. plugs, wires etc are 7 yrs old. trans filter is on the list as well.

just found out Onnadaga is having a daily driver race so i may be skipping the tuneup etc..

pics if it happens.

Bud - I was loving the updates you were sending me even though I was on my way to South Carolina at the time. I meant to send you a thing for Back to the Bricks too but forgot. Out at Birch Run Speedway, they had a burn out contest. So hopefully these two events to coincide with each other.

I'll be happy to sit down with you on how to post pics and vids.

sooo here we are today the motor is out 1st time in 7yrs..iirc (and i probably dont) found a freeze plug core plug whatever you want to call it weeping at the beginning of the summer. only found it because i was chasing an oil leak. But these pics are a mod im doing to shoot a bit of oil at the distributer and cam gear. This is also an area where crap can build up behind this plug. this also gets rid of possible air pockets starving #8 lifters to starve from oil. Using a #60 wire gauge drill bit i drilled through this plug. This is helpful if using a composite distributor gear. I am not personally. Pontiac SD motors came this way i bet for a good reason.

The leaking plug was right over the drivers side motor mount...of course. all the rest are solid but i changed them all to brass. waiting on a kit from butler for the head plugs. However i have to take some blame here as i have NOT changed my radiator coolant in 7 yrs...

Thanks again Frosty for the picker! yes i have the engine stand and picker hooked up. the wife is in my garage as well as the Master, Remi the boss. it would take a lot of Michelle to make this thing fall. Michelle is very much a bull in a china shop type of person and i really dont want her to get hurt.IMG_11891.thumb.PNG.3bb476e950425fcdb4b6e51faa6d8b97.PNG

Dude I’m happy you are getting the motor work done this winter. I expect her to be doing massive burn outs on Woodward this summer.

Here are the photos that Indyman Joe sent me to post in this thread.

Joe reports that there is no oil going to the cam thrust plate.

He said he is getting a degree wheel and he hopes to have it done shortly.

He also said if you look at one picture, you can see the feed hole. If you look in the other picture, you can see how it was when he took it off - 180 degrees off!

Pack it with Vaseline? Really? Where should it be packed to be most effective - the engine or Joe?

Does Vaseline contain ZDDP for the "break in" period? Asking for a friend!

I believe it goes in the rear oil hole. 🫣 ZDDP? Yes it does have Zippity  Doo Dah Performance. Which last through the “break in”!

found some slop in my timing chain, finding out double rollers may not be the best. on a side note the cam degreeing went really well. learned alot. took me all weekend but I can do it in no time now. when I get the new chain ill do it again..have measure some stuff because of the line bore so will need .05 .10 undersized. chain...

  • Popular Post

Yea...Ol Vic dropped a duel timing chain on my V6 block. Never mentioned it.  I knew you had some material to remove to make it work, couldn't remember what I had to clearance.  Put the timing cover up in place and sure enought, it wouldn't seat to the block.  Most would have put the bolts in and reemed them down busting the timing cover.  To be fair, he only did the machine work on the block and put the lower rotating assembly together for me.  Only took him 3 months.

i "think" he did a line Hone...my crude measurements suggest this. i ordered a clyoes timing chain today so i will see what happens when it gets here in a few days....i looked over all my receipts from "vic's" and no where does he include a timing chain.. i guess i cant complain to much as i have put alot of miles on this motor since 2014. And it has ran pretty good. hoping my new cam choice and other incidentals will get me moving out a bit faster.

Me thinks Joe has drag strip fever. Or he can't stand not being able to disturb the peace with long smoky burn outs for distance.
