Another source of front suspension parts would be 1st and 2nd gen Camaros and Firebirds. The front subframe geometry of a F-body is essentially a cut off A-body frame. So control arms, sway bars, steering boxes, and engine mounts from a F-body interchange with the A-body.

What's nice is you can use the larger 2nd-gen WS6 Trans Am sway bar and bolt it to the '68 frame to improve handling for cheap. You can take a 3rd gen faster ratio steering box (stock A body is 24:1 - roughly 4.5 turns lock to lock), to around 12:1 or 16:1 from a 3rd gen IROC Z or WS6 TA.

Omg !!! This is going to be exciting !!! You’re saying that front end is the same as what’s under my 72 rs !

For what parts fit what other vehicle, find yourself a copy of the 38th Edition of the Hollander Interchange Manual. This book is nearly four inches thick with cross references of parts.  A great book.

Yes Kiwi, that is exactly what I am telling you mate!

Lucy has a 1.25” WS6 front sway bar from a wrecked ‘79 WS6 Trans Am I paid $30 on eBay for. I have a reproduction Chevelle 1” rear sway bar. That was the biggest rear factory sway bar they made.

i installed an ‘86 IROC Z quick ratio steering box (16:1) from my local auto parts store (about $125 then) no fancy and expensive units here. The reman tilt column I put in Lucy is for a 2nd gen Camaro/Firebird. It was way cheaper than buying a new IDIDIT or Flaming River column by about  $500-700.

Confrol arms and brakes are also the same! Cheers mate!

Awww I am liking this car more and more !!
already realised it’s Chevy stud pattern not 5x5 so I can stick wheels I have on hand to make it sit better !

I had a Quick Look on rockauto and they sell a quick ratio steering box brand new for justA under 500 nzd …

I also found thanks to Neal

a whole interior kit. For 1300usd
i justA need to find some dead seats to use as cores for the new covers

but that wayyyy down the track

first job is make it go and move !!!

So where are you sleeping now that the Boss has finally ejected you from the house? You're probably out in the hydro shed. Just don't smoke any of it. Hydro isn't like good old fashioned weed.

Many many years ago there was a bloke who specialised in Valiant parts. He lived in an old highset timber house and the yard was chockablock with decaying Valiants and all sorts of Chryslers. They would peer at you amongst the grass that was growing out of them. As I drove in there one day (I owned a couple of Chryslers once) I saw his poor long suffering wife hanging the washing out on the rotary clothesline that occupied the only patch of grass that was Valiant free. Surely she came to her senses and walked outa there with a suitcase vowing never to return.

Just sayin'...

you wanta see my cucumbers !!! they are going crazy !!! and the boss has strawberrys in here system, so its great to snacks out there at the moment !!! nothing beats a pav with strawberrys on top !!!

did you have any more thoughts of making your own nft system ?

Edited by 64 kiwi boni

Do I want to see your cucumbers? Sounds like the worst pickup line ever!

Mmm...cucumbers...I mean, mmm...strawberries. Yum.

Yes, I did spend some time thinking about and researching various setups and then it was time for a beer. Uh, the thought process kinda stopped at that point. You know, I'm a fairly consistent worker. Line some jobs up for me and I'll plow through them, but when it comes to gardening I draw a blank. I would love to embrace it but very few plants are chrome plated.

i had a play with the motor today ..... it was missing lots of parts,,, starter motor for one !

in the boot was a ponti starter snout so i grabed a chevy starter motor out of my parts department , riped it apart, stuck the ponti snout on it , bolted in and it worked !!! shock horror ! gota love delco remy !!!

any who , next was a set of points ... ( had a brand new set on my office desk for the 64 ) a cap and leads... plugs.... fresh oil and filter ..... and a quick bit of wiring and a coil .... pffft i need a beer just talking about all the parts i needed to get this 350 to go bang !!!

IMG_5286.jpeg

And it went bang on all 8 cylinders !! i was impressed considering the mud that ozzzzed out of the sump !!!

next will be to add a fuel supply, a radiator ( i have a 69 camaro cross flow that will fit perfectly )

and bolt in the drive shaft, loop the heater hoses, loop the trans cooler lines and see if i can make it move !!!

if i can get to that stage i can drive it into the hoist and see whats what under side

i am not keen on this 350 , i would really fancy a 400 and go the butler stoker kit path !!

this is where i would like your thoughts two lane ?

cheers guys ! stinking hot here in Taupo , had a fantastic club christmas party last night and bring on xmas and some fun with the grandies

The 350 is a fine engine. It suffers from a lack of some key aftermarket support, like rods and pistons. It sorta became the red headed step child of the Pontiac V8 family, after the 301 and 265. The availability of 389+ cubic inch engines and parts made the 350 the least popular, even though it was one of the most installed engines.

Since we all ready know this is not a numbers matching engine, is another 400 or better readily available?

You could bore and stroke it. I will defer to Two Lane on what you can do and can’t do with a 350 block, and any other considerations he might have.

Frosty, it would be good if the 350 block can be bored !

Kiwi...

The Pontiac 350 engine...3.875 (3 7/8 inch) Bore × 3.750 (3 3/4 inch) Stroke...For a total of 354 CID...Even if bored .060 over...It Will only yield 365 CID..(3.935 bore × 3.750 stroke)...The small bore...Long stroke...Will Not like High RPMs...Anything Over 5000/5500 RPMs...Will Create Hyper Piston speeds and the engine will more than likely Not survive for any extended period of time at higher RPMs...

The 350 Pontiac is designed as an Economical low compression engine...With flat top Pistons with a divet in the center of them...The size of the divet that is in the center of the pistons is How Pontiac controlled the Compression Ratio..The larger the divet...The Lower the compression...The Smaller the divet...The Higher the Compression ratio...That is the main difference between Standard 350 and the Higher compression 350 (HO) engine...

Installing larger valve cylinder heads on a Small bore..Pontiac 350 engine creates its own set of unique issues...Such as Flame shrouding...Causing inefficient Combustion in the Cylinders...Leading to a power loss...The larger valves will also slow down the velocity (airspeed) of the air flowing into the cylinders...And will Not fill the cylinders nearly as Completely/efficiently as it should...Again it is a significant power loss...The larger valve Cylinder heads will also cause clearance issues with the small cylinder bores..Pontiac 400/455s.. have significantly larger 4+ inch bores...As the top of the cylinders in the 350 Pontiac engine block would probably have to have a radius cut in them to have enough clearance for the for the valves..( Think 409 CID. Chevrolet engine)...The Pontiac 350 is a good reliable engine that can make lots of Low end torque...But for a serious performance Build (The kind that sends Children/Greenies running to hide behind their Mamas Skirts when you drive by) A 400/455 engine is really the only way to go...

Justa my two cents...

TLBT...

PS..I will try to accurately answer any other Questions that you may have...

that's justA what I wanted to here two lane 👍👍👍👍 thank you

so I am going to see if I can find a 400 block , would you mind helping me with a receipt for a greeny scarer !!!
something street friendly and let’s say 400 450 Hp

something that won’t break the diff , I can get the turbo 350 rebuilt to take the power , easy enough 👍

Why not a 455 torque monster? Instead of fluffing about with 400 cubes, you may as well start with something big. A few mild mods should give you all the power (and heaps of torque) that you will ever need. After all it's a GTO clone build isn't it? You don't want GTO to be an acronym for Going To Old Folks Home.

Men are funny. A new compressor and everybody goes gooey. Mind you, it's a good looking unit. I'm only jelly because my Ying Tong toy compressor is about half that size but keeps working.

Hot???  HA!!  Wait til you see what's coming. It's been very hot here and now we've got thunderstorms - typical tropical wet season weather. Bring it on.

I don't do Christmas, New Year, Easter, anniversaries, birthdays or anything really BUT I do wish you and all the guys on FP a very happy non denominational vacation period.

Now...let's get loose!
