Hey Fitzy, Pontiac made a tach to go in that location on the manual shift cars that opted not to have a vacuum gauge. On the models that were manual and opted for the vacuum gauge the put the tach on the left side of the dash in front of the gauges. They also had 2 models, they looked the same with the exception of one being a 6k and one being a 7k tach. If I remember correctly the 6k was for 61- 62 and the &k started in 63' but I'm not positive about that bud. The 3rd picture is the tach that mounts in the console. You can see the mount on the one for the dash is on the left on the housing. Hope that helps bro.

Yeah I did the dash myself bro. Its the first one that Iv done so I ended up doing it twice lol. The only real issue I had was with the adhesive. It just didn't want to hold the material in place. I trimmed away all of the dead, cracked and broken garbage. Then I widened the cracks in a V shape so I could fill them. After everything was filled and sanded I covered with 1 piece of foam and used 3M spray adhesive to hold it down. But as I said it would hold the dash material. I finally ended up using the contact cement. I glued down the top and left it to dry over night. The next day I pulled and stretched and glued the rest and clamped it down. I didn't get to really drive the car this past summer like I planned but Its all held together and still looks the same after sitting outside in the hot sun all summer.

Thanks Guys. Dakota Digital do some droolworthy stuff but I don't think my meagre budget is gonna stretch to that but I'll have a look. I like the factory Pontiac tach - I wonder where I'm going to find one. I'll do the usual searches after I post this.

Well this maybe your lucky day Fitzy. I happen to own just such a tach. I found it and paid a proverbial song for it 16 years ago at the GM Nationals in Carlisle PA. I paid $100 for it then because the chrome was in spectacular condition. I've been using it as a knee-knocker tach on Lucy ever since.

This summer I purchased an in-dash factory correct reproduction tach for Lucy. I may also get a hood tach for her as well in the future  (since - thanks to Indyman Joe - I have a spare hood with a hood tach hole in it). So I no longer need this knee knocker tach. It was eventually going to make it's way into the swap meet pile.

I will try to find some pictures of it from my personal PC to see you are interested. If you are, then you and I can cut a mutually agreeable deal, including shipping.

Now that's just cool Frosty.

Thanks wrongway. I JUSTA soon see this go to a guy how wants and appreciates it and will use it rather than some parts collector that will try to cut throat me on price so he can jack it up for himself. Fitzy is the kind of guy I'd rather sell it to, even if he's half the world away.

Agree 100% Frosty !  I’ve always thought it was better to sell to the end user if possible .

The dams are simply ornamental-no time, room or desire for extra critters. It's just nice to sit out the back on the patio and gaze over the lush rainforest that rings the dams and forms the bulk of our 'backyard.' It's my favourite place to ponder how I'm going to tackle the next Poncho task- much better than 3am wide awake in bed!

Yep-that picture just about sums up my reaction after finding said posts. I was supposed to be picking up passengers who were slowly roasting to death in the heat & humidity, but instead I sat alone in my airconditioned coach and frantically replied!

It's okay, I picked up the sweating pissed off passengers eventually-nobody died.

Did they use naughty language once you got there? Did they imply that your mom and dad were not married? Gave you a teensy weensy tip? Imply you suffer from cranial rectal inversion?

No, they were just happy to get on the bus to take them to the airport: it's the only event that gets anyone excited.

They should be feeling warm & fuzzy at the prospect of an additional chrome podded instrument that may be part of my car one day soon. I'll be sure to tell them.

Hey Wrongway, these are gold but priced like gold too. Admittedly, I reckon the NOS tach face is almost worth the ask. It's too good for my car - it'll stick out as the only new looking item amongst the general shabbiness of everything else!

Anyway, many thanks. I tried all sorts of keywords but couldn't find them on my own. It looks like praying to a Supreme Being worked, because Frosty answered the call, not that he's a god...yet!

Your welcome buddy. Yeah those are pricey, but they were NOT the most expensive lol. I found 1 for $1500 & 1 for $2400. Its just crazy man. Glad I could help. Hope you and the Frosty one can work something out.

I tried playing god once to my missus. The genital withering glare that she responded with made me run with my tail between my legs, back to the safety of the Pontiac engine bay where I plunged my head into and hoped she couldn't see me. We all know who wears the god-pants at my joint!

I tell people all the time Fitzy, I'm the boss in my house and whatever my wife says goes! She's petty good with that lol.

True that, Wrongway. Even though I'm not married, I stick to the Happy Wife, Happy Life mantra. I want to come home to harmony, not someone who's itching for a fight. Women don't ask for much and it's not a lot of effort to do at least the minimum in order to maintain calm. There's not a lot of us good men left, so I keep telling her. When she finds a good man, I guess she'll let me know!
