Why did you get your Pontiac?

Well it started with my 99 TA I acquired back in 2012.  Loved the car and the t-tops and the styling.  But deep down I wanted  first gen and it took me 45 years before  I finally got it.  A 67 Firebird convertible,  original 326 car.  Of course by the time I got it , they had burnt the 326 up and had replaced it with a sbc 350 with 400 trans.  Had wanted one since I was 5 years old, always loved the look of the wrapped beak looking bumper as well as the dual headlights.   But I struck gold when my wifes friends father wanted to sell his and it was a convertible to boot.  My biggest issue has been the electrical, but dont they all have that issue?  Got most of that solved and with a few more items I should have it caught up for the time being.  All I ask God for is to give me a couple months of worry free driving before the next issue LOL!!!

I have my 70 GTO because my father ordered it in 1970 it Is an all original 455HO turbo 400 trans 12 bolt 373 gear Sierra yellow wickedly fast and full of torque badass machine Pontiac knew what the hell they were doing back n the day to bad GM screwed things up so bad as to discontinue the brand

As to the “Why”= I was a Pontiac Brat from 13 😂! I was 19 & married in 1969 about a hundred years ago😬😬😬 & had a stock 1957 Chev Nomad @ the time, cool but old, & rough!  My parents had a ‘67 Lemans & a ‘63 Star Chief & thought the ‘57 wasn’t reliable enough for a young married couple so gave me the Tempest. ( Very generous of them ) & so it began. I loved the look of the Lemans but w a 326 engine I was never happy w the power. So 1st new car a ‘70 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 4 speed & it was the 1st really 💕’ed Ride!

I have a 1957 Pontiac Pathfinder Deluxe sedan (Canadian model) that I have owned since 1996. I am sure that the reason I own this car is because my dad had one from 1959 to 1970. I grew up with the car and I have so many fond memories of our family's 57 Pontiac. I even went to the trouble of finding the exact same model my dad owned and painted it the same colors of silver and white. Same model, same engine, same tranny and same colors. I only deviated from my dads 57 by adding many factory and dealer accessories. Of my dads many GM cars over the years, the 57 Pontiac was always his favorite because it was so darn reliable and dependable. Sadly my dad never lived to see my 57 because he died of cancer July 16, 1993 and I bought this car May 21, 1996. I am proud to show my 57 in his honor. Thankfully I have many photos and super 8 film of our families 57 Pontiac. Cheers.

In 1972 I got married  to a wonderful  woman  who  had a 1968 firebird. The car  served  as a family  car show car winning  several awards  sadly  I lost my  wife in  2009 but the still goes on  my daughter  will get it later  thank you

I Joined the Army in 1973 and my first permanent station was in Frankfurt Hoest Germany in early 1974.   By 1979 I  was tired of driving used German model cars, and wanted to show the German Citizens that that USA made awesome looking cars also., so in 1979 I ordered my 1979 Trans Am and had it shipped to Germany.  When I picked up this Beauty in 1980 from the Bremerhaven Port, I drove it back on the German Autobahn and had the Speedometer needle past the 100 mark but was not satisficed  with 185Hp.   So I started researching built up the Oldsmobile engine in a garage and installed a H-O Racing Specialties Turbo Force Kit on it.     Then jumped on the Autobahn where there is no speed limit and temped other German made cars to a challenge.    Heck I even sat outside the Porsche factory and waiting for their test cars to come out.  What a rush, the auto 350 trans shifted 1-2 at 61 miles per hour and 2-3rd gear at 110 MPH chirping the tires every time.     Lot of stories with tis Car.  My Pride and Joy.

I got my Trans Am because I have always wanted one. My first car was a 1974 Pontiac Grandville convertible, and I loved her! 

I've also owned a 2000 Grand Prix and a 2003 G6. My TA, however, is my favorite Pontiac so far!

Any Pontiac is a good Pontiac & with enough love it can be a great one. Of a all the FWD’s the sixth generation was my favorite & the 2000 most of all, but I might be impartial?!

  My interest and acquisition of all of the Pontiacs I have owned over the years started with my father’s attraction to the brand. The 1950 coupe pictured was only one of a number of them he had.  The rest included a ‘57, 2 ‘59 Catalina’s, a ‘60 Catalina, a ‘62 Bonneville, ‘63 Bonneville, ‘65 Catalina, and a ‘72 Grand Ville convertible.

    To me, Pontiacs always had better style, interiors, handling, and powertrains than their competitors.  In fact, in the 1960’s BMW stated that they would like to be the “Pontiac” of Europe.  They eventually borrowed their now famous tagline “The ultimate driving machine” from 1967 GTO commercials.

   I have had a variety of Pontiacs leading up to the ‘31 and ‘59 I currently own. Unfortunately I couldn’t keep them all. They were traded or sold in order to finance the next one. Would certainly love to have all of them back!  Here’s a few pics.

My Dad (RIP) got me into Pontiacs as well! While I don’t have great pics of his ‘63 Catalina I do remember the car well! His next was a 1967 Midnight blue LeMans that he was generous enough to give me as a wedding gift in 1969. I Definitely appreciated the gift but I had too much testosterone & Didn’t appreciate the ‘67 Leman’s, in hind-site I do now! But at the time w/o the big motor in the ‘70’s it didn’t work for me, so I traded on a ‘70 Formula 400 stage 3! Haven’t had another Pontiac til 2 years ago when I got my ‘02 T/A 6 speed Convert WS6! Great Ride. So as to “The why we got our Pontiacs” I gotta believe Dad’s got a lot of us interested as they were fans 1st! See pics of my 1st & last bought.

I had too much money and was very happy so decided I needed a black hole to pour money into. Whilst in Canada on holiday I picked up a book that was a collection of old car advertisements, and in there was an ad for the 65 Grand Prix. I knew that was what I wanted. Upon returning to Oz I started looking. Would you believe it - the ONLY 65 GP I've ever seen advertised in Oz was for sale. I knew it was mine even before I called the owner, and so it's now mine, warts and all. Nemesis one minute, object of lust the next. The perfect (expensive) paradox.

Well for us, it kinda happened by default. Can I say up front that initially, the whole idea came from my Gorgeous wife. I'll bet not many can say that?

We started out looking for a "classic car" - didn't have anything particular in mind except we knew that my wife absolutely loved the Elvis-style Cadillac with the big wings, and I really liked the later '66-'67 Impalas. So it needed to be a big US cruiser style (wife didn't want a muscle car that she knew I would try and race around everywhere, destroying parts, licence and bank balance in equal measure😅. Smart girl 🤷‍♂️).

I called for some practicality (if we were going to get one, it had to be something that SHE would be happy to drive as well, as I wasn't just going to play chauffeur (already have a motorbike that only I can ride, didn't want another solo toy!), whilst she admitted that the Impala's I liked just looked like a big Statesman to her, so wasn't that keen.

So...after a lot of searching and miles of driving around to look at a heap of cars, what we eventually found seemed to sit right in the middle of both our wish lists, plus we both loved the car at first sight 🥰

Being a '61 it still had wings (of sorts), plus a whole heap of chrome inside and out, and looked very stylish. For me, it had 6 seats, an auto trans, an adjustable bench seat so all of her 5' could reach the go pedal, and in my opinion had a heap of swagger. Plus it was quite different from everything else we'd seen.
