We now have a rolling chassis. IMG_9342.mov

Wow that's what it will look like I can't wait to get mine done as well. I'm hoping I can take it to a jeweler to have restored.

Did you have the one that goes on your dash redone too?

I sent my emblem to Maxwell Enamel in CA for restoration.  Not cheap, but excellent work!

I was lucky, my dashboard emblem is good enough to use as is.

The A/C  unit under the dash left no room for the manual choke cable to be routed to the right side of the rear carb to meet the choke lever so I designed a bellcrank assembly to fit under the rear edge of the carburetor to do the job.

Not enough room in the dash for all of the gauges and switches so I made 2 “accessory“     panels ,  one to house the choke and ‘61 Pontiac ignition switch and the other for the A/C controls.

Nice job! Your additions blend right in.

I know this comes down to personal preference, old school looks or whatever, but I am curious.

Why are you going with a manual choke? Wouldn't an automatic choke carb been a lot easier?

Regardless, I respect your choice and I think your fab work is great and ingenious. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Frosty.   Yes , an automatic choke would have been easier,  but  I wanted period ( ‘60’s ) looking dual quads  (AFBs).  My engine builder found this pair of Carter 500’s online with no automatic choke and I said OK.   I like the SD 421 inference.

Okay, now I understand. Thanks for taking the time to explain that 31pontiac. So period correct it is! I like it!

A little more progress.  17” Derale clutch fan with a shroud made from old metal shelves. Modified the stock headlight bar and custom made the headlight stands to fit the Guide  682-C headlights.  Installed the tach and ‘55 DeSoto gauges.

Here are a couple of details I hadn’t posted yet.

The ‘58 Chevrolet Bel Air taillights were chosen due to their  ‘60’s showrod feel.  The push bars and rear spreader bar/ license plate plate bracket were fabricated from bar stock and an original NOS Hollywood license plate lamp was used to keep that vintage feel.

The front spreader bar is a Model A brake bar trimmed to fit between the frame rails. It was chosen because it compliments the      “V”ed shape of the grille

These parts and a few others were dropped off at the chrome shop at Hershey last week.

Just a brief update.  My son-in-law helped bend some AC and trans cooler lines.
Also picked up the chrome before Christmas.  Librandi’s does excellent work!

Routing exhaust was challenging. Mufflers are Pypes RacePro and tips are modified Olds 442 pieces.   Also could use some help rotating last pic.😬51E30CEE-3385-412F-B9A8-9CB6E1C7FA34.thumb.jpeg.0ebe820587f62009aec0290c976b6483.jpeg

Very cool update. Any particular reason for the Olds tips? The cool factor? I had them lying around the shop?

Frosty, the exhaust on Mickey Thompson’s Challenger I was my inspiration.  Although not a direct copy, I tried to have a similar look with the hard slice cut pipe. The 442 tips ( flea market find) received a harder than original angle cut and I feel gives the end of the pipe a more finished look.

The sides of the gas tank cover will eventually be modified to accommodate the tailpipes better.

That's a better story than I expected 31pontiac. Thanks for sharing that one. Inspired by history. I like it!
