Just ordered two custom 1/0 AWG battery cables. Cost was about $60 from Battery Cable USA, out of Kentucky. Waiting for a delivery date from UPS at this point.

Spent three more houes on Lucy today. I got the positive cable run. Now i am struggling to get the starter back intonplace and bolted up.IMG_4227.jpegIMG_4228.jpegIMG_4231.jpegIMG_4229.jpeg

Now i am cussing and swearing trying to get those two damn bolts back in. The DEI wrap Is making it tougher to get the starter in position.

Well I finally got that M$&@@$ F@&king starter bolt in and finished installing the starter!!! I ended up grinding a slight angle into the tip of the bolt to get the threads to engage. Well it worked! It even started with no noise! Success!!!! cheers

Good thing too! I leave for West Virginia Friday for a memorial cruise-in on Saturday! This is my last hurrah for the year. It will be time to prep all my babies for winter storage after that.

Safe trip buddy. Kept lookin for ya during the game, but realized I don't know which is the North end. o

Thanks bud!

The press box faces west. So when you are watching a Michigan home game, the north end zone is on the left side of the field TV wise. Besides , this week’s game is at MSU.

One of these days I need to find a ticket to a Mountaineers home game. I have never been to Morgantown before.

Lucy got me to West Virginia and back. The new battery cables definitely improve the hot no start issue. There were a couple of occasions where she was still slow to turn over.Other times she’d crank just fine. I might consider a mini starter this winter.

I have a new issue. I have had a slow power steering leak for awhile now. Enough to be annoying on my garage floor (I put lots of cardboard under Lucy). i topped off the PS fluid before I left. Since I left for WV, I have noticed at mostly after a cold start or no/very slow speed she acts like I have manual steering. Tough to turn, lots of grunt to turn the wheel. Get the revs up and I have power steering again.

I suspect my PS pump is bad or going bad? Perhaps the new front tires are too big and heavy for that sized pump?

Thoughts?

The pump in my 72 justA up and died when we where about to leave on a run

It was one thing I have never changed/ rebuilt … how olds Lucy’s ????

And super cheap for a new one from rock auto to mate 👍

Mine did that once about 6yrs ago. Came off a long freeway drive and bam no power steering. checked it all out and belt was fine fluid was fine ,no bubbles etc. no noise nothing. went and picked up the part i was after (southwest indiana) city driving no power steering. about to get on the freeway again and all of a sudden back to normal. hasnt done it since. as afar as tires i have been running 255 60 15's in front and never an issue other than above, which i don't think has anything to do with tires, it rubs slightly on a full lock turn but not enough for me to worry about it.

The pump is less than 10 years old. I replaced it when the original pump/tank developed a pinhole leak just above the return line. She didn't get a ton of drive time between 2019 and 2022 because of the heat core debacle and then the new steering column/oil pan fiasco.

Justa looking forward to another messy, oily job that will take all day since the lines from the steering gear probably won't come loose without a fight.

do you still have the original?

  • Author

No I think I chucked it once the new one went in. After all, the damn thing was over 40 years old. I got the new one from NPD - I think.

I'm hoping it's going be the usual Frosty Dramarama. Rusted bolts, leaking fluid, swearing, blood, wrong parts, crap made in China...don't disappoint us now.

I find that now whenever I work on any one of my crumbling prehistoric wrecks the language & bad temper simply bubble up automatically. Even checking the dipstick is worthy of an expletive.

One of the many joys of getting older.

We are all looking forward to graphic video of tools being thrown around whilst laying in a pool of blood & pwr steer fluid. Maybe your wife could make a cameo and yell at you for making a mess. pop_corn

I have often said that my first Pontiac was a '73 Lemans Sport Coupe I got right after graduating high school in 1978. I have no photos of this car except one of it in all primer (I repainted the car when I owned it).

This video is of a couple getting their '73 Lemans back. My Lemans was almost this car's twin - the same color - blue with a white top, louvered side windows, white interior, console shift, bucket seats, 350 2-bbl V8, automatic transmission. The only difference I can see is my car had the darker blue Sport Coupe stripe from the nose to just behind the doors.

I purchased a Trans Am Formula steering wheel for this car. I put the original steering wheel back on the car when I sold it. That Formula steering wheel is now on Lucy!

You can see the stripe that comes with the Lemans Sport Coupe in this photo.1973+Lemans+2+door+b.jpg
