Thanks man, Migraines are just the worst. This job looks a bit more understanding, less of the "corporate" stranglehold on the shop, as this is an independent franchise.

Tell the new place off the bat about your migraines and ask them if they need any sort of medical record about it. That way if you do have another debilitating problem, they know about it ahead of time!

Best of luck in the new job. I hope it works out for you!

I dunno, I have never been accepted by an employer when they knew about my migraines... so that may be shooting yourself int he foot.

The foot pain might help forgetting the migraines ? :D

I guess you may be right. I'm lucky enough not to have had any sort of health issue that would interfere with my job so what do I know? I'm just a firm believer in honesty being the best policy. Isn't it discrimination to not hire a person because of a health condition?

Hahaha! I'm sure it would.

Isn't it discrimination to not hire a person because of a health condition?

Yes and also a lot of reasons, I know when I was looking for a job over a year ago I was not called back due to the fact that I had some health issues and was also still looking to finish off my degree but was well qualified or even over qualified for the job. A lot of things you can speculate but honestly its hard to prove.

What you can prove is what happened to Chris, him being demoted because of his migraines which is balderdash.

In my case I have discovered that migraines even though they can outright disable a person, are not considered a disability, and therefore you have no rights when it comes to dismissal or not being hired... basically it boils down to ignorance, but not so much in the stupidity side of it, but the fact that little is known about them side, there are many different kinds of migraines and thousands of triggers that vary from person to person, there are no drugs that work on all or even a large number of sufferers from what I hear, so those factors make it so confusing to people trying to follow it and understand it, especially if they don't suffer from them themselves.

Personally I have never found my trigger, I have tried everything.

Sadly being as little is really known about them, a lot of doctors will just tell you to take an aspirin and get a life as if it was just a headache, but it's affects so much of your body... with me I can't think clearly, I can barely talk, I have a hard 5time understanding people talking to me, I have light sensitivity most of the time as it is, and when I have any degree of migraine the sensitivity goes through the roof, I get a high fever and cold sweat... my balance is off and my eyes get blood shot... even early into having one, and that has cost me a few jobs, I figure because I look like I am on drugs or something.

Chris, I have some questions for you, do you run hot? As in is your body temp higher then average all the time? Are you light sensitive? is your night vision really good?

I would think if an employer knew you and saw you were in pain they would know its real and not be a dick about it but that's just me and think too kindly sometimes of humans.

Migraines are nothing to mess around with, I get about 1 a year but still for that day it's basically hell and I can barely function

I have been lucky enough to have only experienced one migraine. I've never felt pain that intense (I've also never broken anything so I don't have a whole lot to compare it to). Every time I would try to move I would vomit, to the point there was nothing left to come up. I was at work while it was happening and luckily had a really good staff under me to help out. I was the manager on duty that day too so I couldn't go home and none of the other managers could/would come in. I managed to work through it after the worst part ended, but wow. I am incredibly sorry for those of you that get these things often. Terrible.

I hate hate HATE people that use a migraine (or any other debilitating problem for that matter) as an excuse to get out of work or something else when they don't actually have a problem with them or have never experienced one. Selfish people can go die, kthx.

I would reply, but I have a migraine right now...

LOL

I really do, I am drugged up right now, I hate it but at least the pain is dulled, now if I only had access to my brain...

B) Let us know when your brain comes back. :)

Gotta get this out...

This totally just freaking urks me how lazy people are, like I'm lazy when it comes to my own stuff but when something effects someone else I immediately am there. Today and yesterday I was out running errands picking up groceries, etc and it amazed how many shopping carts there were just littering the parking lot, are people too lazy to walk the extra 2 feet to put them in the corral? People who don't cherish their car and park 20 miles away from people don't understand how much I DON'T want a shopping cart next to my car for the off chance that it will crash into it. I literally went off on some lady today who as I was coming out left her cart next to my car when the corral was right behind us.

It's common courtesy for A. your fellow shopper's cars and B. for the cart person who has to bring them in.

Just pisses me off how lazy people are this day in age and for me, someone who as busy as I am, to be a courteous person and pick up the slack and put one away that was really about 2 feet away and the person couldn't walk it...

I fear the future, I really do if something as trivial as shopping carts in a corral that's 2 feet away can't be accomplished because someone was too lazy, what the bump is next...

/rant

AHHHH I agree! There is a lot of ridiculousness that goes on in Starbucks, as I am sure is the case with any sort of customer service job. I always exercise the utmost courtesy when I am anywhere because I realize how little courtesy and respect is left in the world. For instance, if I try on clothes, I put them back on the rack and put them in the order they're supposed to be in on said rack (i.e., Small, Medium, Large, etc). It's one thing to be nice enough to put something back, but be sure you're actually doing the worker a favor by doing so and put it back where it should be. Maybe that's just me and I shouldn't put it back at all, but I'd like to think I'm helping make their mundane job a little bit easier. I'm also prone to collecting stray shopping carts because I for one don't want them to hit my car, but I also don't want the poor cart person (especially in the brutal winters we have) to have to spend extra time running around the parking lot collecting all of the carts.

Anyway. I don't mean to preach about how fantastically wonderful I am, I only wanted to point out that being a nice, courteous, respectful person only takes a few extra seconds of your time if that, and makes at least one if not a handful of other people happier. Even if they have no idea you did it, the fact that it was done makes all the difference.

Sadly common courtesy needs to be taught and stressed again. Parents need to teach their children how to interact with the human population because it is a thing of the past I'm noticing.

One time, some lazy fat bitch left not one...but TWO carts in front of my car, WHILE I'm still in it, right as I'm about to leave (this was at Stop & Shop)

I quickly hop out, she looks at me, but I sternly ignore her. I gather four more carts, see her SUV, and leave six carts packed together behind her truck, boxing her in.

Her fat ass wasn't happy. She proceeded to yell out, "Hey! Hey you!" at first, I ignore her, and walk back to my car, (car is still running) Now she's really hollering, but I don't acknowledge her, and drive away. I then hear her yell out, "YOU COCKSUCKING MOTHERFVCKER, GO FVCKING DIE!" and flips the bird.

Stay classy, hambeast, stay classy.

 WIN!

Awesome Chris !

I seriously just might get a vanity plate that says, "TROLLIN" now.

That post brought me joy Chris!

I will say I hate that BS a lot, but at the place I get my groceries, the cart boys have asked me to leave my car off the the side instead of bringing it back in like I used to, apparently in that case those kids get a daily bonus based on how many carts they retrieve... I will never leave it by a car, or if I am near the cart corral I'll put it there. Everywhere else I put it away like everyone should.

I nailed a cart at WalMart last year with my big Ford deck truck, a lady had just pushed it into the roadway, so I nailed it and it flipped and slid halfway back to her... I think she might have pooped... my dad was with e and he was pissed... I was laughing! (Those suckers are sturdy!)

Check out this photo I took winter of 09 at a WalMart Super center...

Reminds me of a field full of zombies for no particular reason.

Wow that is exactly what I thought.

I was at a home depot and you know those giant metal carts that people take heavy stuff on?

I was in my dads new Chevy Equinox listening to the radio while he was in the store.

It was a REALLY windy day and I went outside and defended my dads car from carts and dollys from every single direction, must have been like 15 or 20 fvcking carts.

What was even better was this song stared playing on the radio:
