That missus of yours is a slave driver. Do what I do: put on a crash helmet and some padding and then tell her to f@#k off and leave you alone. This method works for me, although I still get bruised a bit. Thank goodness beer is there to soothe the pain.

Hmmm

might try that

but then I don’t think so !!! I like my balls ! I don’t think I could part with them !

Here in New Zealand if you modify your car in anyway you have to get the modification's certified by the gods.. aka lvvta  low volume vehicle testing authority to comply with the nzta ... new zealand transport authority  and then you can get a warrant of fitness for your car every 6 months , to be legally aloud to drive your pride and joy🙄:stars:

fitzy can relate to this as ozzy has a similar system, except theirs is even harder than nz...

well today i spent from 8 am till 5 pm standing around waiting my turn to get the Cortina through its first lvvta inspection....

in this car it has a non stock engine and gear box, diffrent diff and a whole change for front suspension.

i came away with a list of 4 items to rectify , none of which where what i would consider major things to change, i had used a bolt instead of a pin for the brake pedal to push rod pivot, i had  washers spacing the wilwood front calipers and they want that to be a single bush.

they want a rear drive shaft loop to stop the drive shaft from cutting the flow and return fuel lines.... i had piped the line in the drive shaft tunnel and already have a front drive shaft loop.

and the guy did not except my aftermarket single circuit brake master cylinder,,,, if it was a factory Cortina one i could keep the single outlet system otherwise it has to be a dual circuit master cylinder.

you guys state side are so lucky you dont have all the southern hemisphere bs we have !!!just to keep our old cars on the road legally !!

some where there for seat belt mount certifcations

this guy with his brand new purchase had no idea that even though he paid big money for a dodge charger it was a real mess under side and the list of things that need doing is LONG ,, i will not elaborate.

Kiwi - because my car is essentially stock I got out of it lightly. It turns out the reason why they wouldn't register my car the first time around is that the old style chassis number needed to be manually inputted into the system and that was it! Modern VINs are 17 digits but not the old 1965 Pontiac one. So: no inspection (apart from Safety Certificate) no engineer, no mod plate. They have a new rule now where the Qld Transport staff are not allowed to go outside and physically check the car for details like chassis number & engine number because they might get skin cancer. This is true!

Anyway, they sound like minor mods except for the master cylinder which is a good one to do, anyway. I should have done that as a priority when I first started doing my car.

Lots of old cars in those pics - that damn place must be chockablock with old cars! I'm forever astounded as to how strong the old car scene is there.

Fitzy, you will be interested in this, i sold the vr ss commy i have today, spent most of the day cleaning it up and fixing crap on it, guy turns up this afternoon and want to do a deal, he wants my vr and get me to do some plumbing for him and i get a xy falcon ute project less engine a box that he wants 12k for ... now would you know what xy falcon utes go for in ozz ?

this is a rolling body, sand blasted , complete 1972 xy ute with registration on hold( which here in nz is gold)

  • Popular Post

Easy 20k for an XY without powertrain. A complete XY ute? Start at 35k and go up. With a Clevo and top loader, start at 50k, at least.

Make sure it's truly complete - it's the little trim pieces and badges that will drive you mad AND repro parts are available but big dollars. 1972 is the last year of the XY - the XA replaced it in the same year.

..... awesome automobile addiction club

I thought you said you had another purchase in the wings, but you were cagey about details. Your missus is going to kill you. In fact, I have to wonder why she hasn't already!

Many years ago, I had a 70s Valiant and needed some parts. Someone told me of the 'Valiant Man' who had a residence up the road from me. This guy had about an acre and it contained an old Queenslander house amidst a sea of overgrown grass and Valiants everywhere. I turned up to see his long suffering missus hanging up the washing on a Hills hoist in amongst the sea of abandoned wrecks. I often wonder whatever happened to him and for how much longer did she put up with living in a snake infested hovel absolutely bursting with wrecks in various stages of decrepitude. My guess is she finally located his shotgun and let him have it!

There's a cheery thought for you as you drag home the next, ahem 'project.' You keep the shotty locked up, right?

my boss doesn't need a gun!

have you ever herd of "the look" ????

XYs will always be sought after, much like EHs & HQs - handsome, significant cars. Yeah, go on - get it. Unless there's something drastically wrong with it, you can't go wrong. Have a good look at where the rear leaf springs attach to the body - utes are workhorses and I once had an HG ute and the leaf spring attachment point broke through the floor and goodbye ute - back then it just wasn't worth fixing.

The old crap that we were forced to drive when I was in my 20s are today's 'classics.' The point is that old cars look far better than they drive, unless you restomod it. I had enough old Australian Holdens & Fords to last me a lifetime and simply cannot bring myself to shell out tens of thousands for a four door, bench seat, three on the tree crappy old 6. I wanted my last project to be special, so I went Yank Tank.

Oh - the guy who sold me my GP now has a 65 Bonnie coupe with a factory 421 - about 23k. When I win Lotto...

More progress, trusses in place, cut into the existing house .... Wifes super happy when all the rat poo fell out of the ceiling  for years before we owned the place there was a lemon tree growing next to the house, the rats would climb up it, into the gutters and into the roof space!!:o

Barge boards up next, and should be ready for the roofer who is booked for mid week next week, hopefully we dont get too much rain !!

I've crawled through enough junked cars in bone yards to see enough rat and mouse turds to last a life time. I can only imagine how thrilled your boss must have been. Imagine the case of gonnasyphilria you could get from these wee beasties! :stars:
