looking good, the way you are doing it is a good idea, more work but nicer end result, how about finding some used stainless wiper blades and just get some rubber refills?

thats exactly what i was looking for Andy!! i will need to watch some swap meets to find some! i hate the black, when the factory ones where stainless steel !!, but they will have to do for now!

good spotting mate!!! what does it mean by with or without over lap????? mine over lap ????

It seems that the 'clap hands' wipers are 'overlap' wipers, so if your car is like mine, you'll have overlap wipers. If they are parallel wipers, they are non overlap. There is much detailed discussion on how the blades differ, so if your life has come to a standstill,  you can indulge yourself with hours of tedium online. What happened to your old stainless ones? I just chucked new rubber inserts into mine.

I have what looks like original stainless wipers on one Bonnie but not the other. It looks like mine are 17”. I don’t see them on Ames. I did a search on ebay and found a used pair of 17”. I know I can install new rubber myself. I would suggest searching 17” trico stainless wipers. First 4 pics are of mine and last two are what I just ordered on ebay.

I bought this rubber on Amazon. You can see I slipped it in place on second groove and cut off the extra behind it.

Winter swap meet season will be starting in a few weeks here in Michigan boys.

I suggest that both Kiwi and Fitzy put together their Christmas/New Year's shopping list. So if you want me to be on the lookout for those hard to find shiny bits, start a list and let me know.

A lot of car clubs here will have metal plates and then hang them with chains just below the rear bumper. With lead sleds in particular, these is a very cool effect.

Same situation as last weekend I only got the best of 2 hours on the bonneville

so Installed the new ignition switch

I made my own bezel key out of a bit of inch copper tube to lock into the 3 keyways which took longer to make than installing the new switch

Then with the matching Ames door locks in hand I popped the door trim off and installed the new lock barrels along with gaskets

The retaining clips are wrong for a 64 bonneville so I reused the factory ones that slide in from the door jab

and now I have one key that unlocks the car and starts it and one for the trunk 👍👍👍🍻

Lucy's ignition key unlocks the front doors and turns the ignition too.

I did the same with my GP. The car was delivered with one battered original old ignition key and that's all. It doesn't sound like much, but it is joy incarnate to now be able to lock & unlock both doors & the trunk. Sure, I'm using 3 different keys (incl. ignition) but opening those bad boys puts a smile on my face every time.

I probably should get out a bit more.

I've been excited over my dog pooping outside more times than I count over the last few days so I completely understand this statement

i can relate to that too mate, the key that came with the 64, was the wrong one for the ignition! you could start the car with any key!!

but you could not turn the barrel anti clockwise to the accessory position!

 can do so now 👍

its the little things in life aye!!! hahahaha

like those dumb black wiper blades!! .... ames stainless ones on their way !!

This is further proof that I probably should introduce a little more variety into my life, coz I gave that topic some thought: how those crappy plastic blades really jarred with the car's persona. I keep banging on about how professional talented designers are employed by car companies to make the whole product look cohesive. Old cars need their little chrome, aluminium or stainless bits in order to retain the look that it's supposed to have. It's hard to imagine that something as innocuous as wiper blades could stand out so much, but because they clearly don't belong there, they catch the eye. I'm a stickler for originality, but am also happy to introduce some TASTEFUL upgrades...like my own cool twin exhaust.

Hijack Alert! Soz.

Oh, by the way Kiwi - I am super impressed with your homemade 'bezel removal tool.' What a cool solution. I've always attacked mine 'butcher style,' a pair of needle nose pliers and a hammer, or a little screwdriver tapped around.
