Yep, JustA is spot on. It's the hands on experience and tips that help others out, plus it's great reading.

Your Bonnie is looking damn fine.

The 64 is really starting to look like a complete car again , I even fitted the new plates 👍👍

Dont look to hard,,, both my bumpers are in need of re choming .. but they are what i have and we make do with what we have !..

my frustration today was that the front bumper justA did not fit properly, i had that sucker on and off 10 times, had it in my press 3 times, moved the mounting irons 10 times and finally got it where it needed to be...a really pain in the butt job, that i didnt think would be that hard...

note to the next guy/gal fitting parts from different pontiacs'... they will NOT fit with out a whole bunch of..... love!!! haahaha

Another thing to note for anyone rebuilding their pride and joy is that i have the whole front clip still in primer stage.... why you ask! because all this parts on and off scratches shit !, the grill installation was a real pita, bumper the same, and when your doing fitment by your self.... well ....shit happens!..

by the time i have sorted all the adjustments and am happy everything fits like i want... THEN its time to pull it all apart and paint and refit.

My plan is to get the car complete, get it road legal ( including vining/ registration etc) and then pull it down for paint.

Either she wants her pound of flesh out of you or she's jealous that Bonnie is getting more attention than her.

Stayed up late last night to watch the NZ vs USA Wheelchair Rugby match at the Tokyo Paralympic games. I guess the game has been called Murderball because of a 2005 movie about the sport. US won 63-35. NZ had a lot of turn overs. Denmark squeaked past Oz 54-53. Thursday big match up will be USA vs Canada.

I got nothin when it comes to the OTHER half.   Only thing that works for me is, yes honey.  Doesn't mean it's gonna get done, but it was acknowledged.

I can only say "Yes Dear" - the other half of that phrase gets caught in my throat and won't come out - ever  (the "what ever you say dear" part).

Lot of work but I agree that is the way to do it, talked to an old friend car painter while on vacation and he told me about several cars that came in in pieces and was supposed to have been fitted before paint and when they tried to re install everything nothing fit.

I got a Similar plan, assemble, drive, disassemble, paint openings at door, trunk, hood then install all the sheet metal and paint.

Pretty sure what you are doing, looking good you are making an amazing progress.

I hope to get back to mine soon has been to much house stuff, vacation and moving kid back in to college.

Keep the pictures coming  it's a great inspiration.

cheers Andy, your plan is exactly the same as mine, i will be painting door jabs and under hood then she will go to my painter mate with all the exterior primed and he will apply top coat... plan is to use the brightest white( untinted ) with some pearl in it... i want a white and chrome thyme... and i am thinking of using the coker tires with the 2 1/2 white wall.

Unfortunately I don't have a painter buddy close by( my old friend is overseas) so I have to source one.

Wonder if the original paint code on yours is the same as my Lemans?

Oh, that's gold. JustA knows how to handle the ladies - tell 'em what they want to hear and then quietly shuffle off and do your own thing. Frosty is halfway there - he's been bruised & battered before.

Kiwi, I had no idea your Bonnie was in such bad shape. Those photos tell the whole story. You've done a top job. Next time your Boss tells you you're uselsss, you can run back to FP and bask in the glow of our supportive comments. That'll show her.

As an aside, I wrote an epic tale yesterday with a heap of photos but nothing would load, and now everything has disappeared. Ringo, put that margharita down and see if you can see what's going on, would you?

yes mate she was hit fair and square in the front passenger side chassis rail by something really hard! ( like a pole or armco)

when i went to first looked at her i could see that from the fire wall back was un touched and i thought to myself... i can fix this !!

the luck was in finding another whole 64 bonneville chassis in new zealand that was straight, rust free and for sale !! luckily the guy i bought her off gave me a number of a guy... who has become a great friend now... who justA happend to have a whole parts car... long story short, that body is now under my trees short of its chassis

While riding my motorcycle, I swerved to avoid hitting a deer, lost control and landed in a ditch, severely banging my head. Dazed and confused I crawled out of the ditch to the edge of the road when a shiny new convertible pulled up with a very beautiful woman who asked, "Are you okay ?”

As I looked up, I noticed she was wearing a low-cut see-through red blouse with cleavage to die for...

"I'm okay I think," I replied as I pulled myself up to the side of the car to get a closer look.

She said, "Get in and I'll take you home, so I can clean and bandage that nasty scrape on your head."

"That's nice of you," I answered, "but I don't think my wife will like me doing that!"

"Oh, come now, I'm a nurse," she insisted. "I need to see if you have any more scrapes and then treat them properly."

Well, she was really pretty and very persuasive. Being sort of shaken and weak, I agreed, but repeated,"I'm sure my wife won't like this."

We arrived at her place which was just few miles away and, after a couple of cold beers and the bandaging, I thanked her and said, "I feel a lot better, but I know my wife is going to be really upset so I'd better go now."

"Don't be silly!" she said with a smile. "Stay for a while. She won't know anything. By the way, where is she?"

"Still in the ditch, I guess.

Months ago when it was a nasty weather day I had time to make a pattern for the missing sub body mounts justA behind the rear wheels holding up the trunk floor. At some time in the 64 life in California, it had a trunk floor replacement and they never replaced the sub brace mounts justA behind the wheel arch, which ment the the whole car was mounted at the bolt point at the top of the wheel arch and the next fixing point was right at the rear bumper mount!

This would be a big no no when i go to vin the car for nz .. so in goes my hand made version of what the factory made... top is a factory mount that i made a paper template from....below right is the one i made months ago.. and left is my template marked out on a bit of 1mm steel.

You're a clever man, Kiwi.  Let's see how clever you are after 24 beers and a jalapeno pizza in October!
