The Forever Pontiac Crew have plumbed new depths: Patrick Hernandez & Abba. I came here for useful informatiom and a sense of camaraderie, not to be assaulted by disco and Gollum jokes - despite the fact that I started both.  D'oh!

I fear that Kiwi's thread has once again been hijacked. More apologies. When my damn car comes back, I promise to post my thoughts on my own thread. It was supposed to come home today but nobody called me.

STOP PRESS: I just got the phone call - car will be here in 30 mins.

Isn't it funny how all the truly awful music is remembered? For me, anything by Hall & Oates or Lionel Ritchie is like wading through sludge. I Want To Know What Love Is by Foreigner was surely the low point in human civilisation, but then the Yugo came along and was sold in the States AND some people actually bought one - it was the modern Nash Metropolitan, but even more flimsy, gutless and unreliable.

The Yugo is often stated as the Worst Car Ever Made. I'm surprised it wasn't made in Australia!

Rather listen to ABBA than drive in a Yugo

For fitzy's info and any one else rebuilding their carter

i started my carter rebuild with a edelbrock kit and as stated above there are parts that justA don’t work

like the carb base gasket 🙄

The one that comes in the kit is as good as useless for anything but a race car with a single plane intake manifold !!

A3DD7E0F-CA52-4DB9-9DEA-407B8E04F4EE.jpeg

as you can see the stock 389 manifold is a dual plane and needs for all 4 barrels to be sealed to its port individually!

this is the gasket that was on there a really thick one, that i am guessing helped combat heat soak

That might be a phenolic spacer, which indeed is there to minimise heat soak. There's a lot of discussion as to the potential benefits of fitting a spacer under the carb - from horsepower increases to improved starting, fuel economy, etc. I suspect these observations are posted by manufacturers of said spacers. You'd think that any vehicle manufacturer who was aware of such benefits would have fitted one from the start, BUT I once read that prices of parts required to make a car were calculated down to three decimal places of one cent,  so maybe GM saved 5c per car by deleting the spacer. Experiment, Young Man and report back!

Always been rule of thumb for me,  spacers for the win.  Heat protection and performance.

Hey Kiwi, can you give us a pic of your installed oil adapter? I want to see the angle and how much it protrudes. I think I'll do the same. Did you buy from Rockauto?

Will do fitzy ... maybe a couple of weeks away ..am still waiting on my carb kit from rock auto !!! I tracked it and it’s currently sitting in Sydney !! Which is really odd! All my rock auto orders head from USA to Auckland via Hawaii !

Once I get it I can complete the rebuild and drive her into the hoist to get the headers and adaptor on ...

the oil filter adaptor came with my headers from John at Pontiac tri power mate ... check out their website . They have all the parts listed 👍👍👍

i do have one job that has to be done before i fit the long branch headers!!

the paint i applied has to be baked for 20 mins at 175c .... so i need to stick them in the bosses oven.... i might justA wait till she goes to her mothers for the night and if it stinks the house out i have time to air it !!! hahaha :dancingpontiac:OR

i did think about using the pizza oven.... it might do the job, justA use a infared thermometer and tune the temp to 175... hmmmm which way will be easier🤔

Which route is most like to keep your head on your torso once the missus finds out? Baked headers or a cheese and pepperoni pizza with double headers?

Your call! Cheers mate!

Not enough Preparation H in world for that either!

Pizza flavoured headers, Preparation H, what have I been missing out on? Remember when we used to talk about Pontiac related items?

Whenever I see Prep H on the shelf, it reminds me of Homer sneaking into a store to pick up incontinence diapers, and then he almost made it back to his car wearing sunnies and an overcoat when over the loudspeaker the sales clerk announces that he's forgotten his bed wetting alarm (I think) loud enough for the entire store and carpark to hear. Good ol' Prep H, sounds much nicer than haemorroid cream. We have another product here called Femfresh, which sounds more discreet than Honey Flavoured C@#t Spray.

Another exciting day !! My REAL rebuild kit arrived from rockauto today

and you can see the difference to the useless edelbrock kit.. all the correct gaskets for the air venturies  correct base gaskets and even the seal for the choke housing to carb!!!

AND a complete fuel plunger !!!

Certainly going to make the refresh on the carter way better 👍👍👍

Thanks Kiwi - I was hoping for an angled setup but that one might work just as well. Your carby kit is the same one I got from Ames. I like how they included a stubby of beer with your kit - mine was missing that vital component.

I'm about to place another parts order with Ames, this time I want one of those louvred chrome air cleaners that the 2+2s came with. Anyone had any experience with one of these? It looks like it'll flow a bit better than the factory can but I imagine it's more show than go, but that's okay with me. I'll be spending a lot more time looking at my car than actually driving it.

And I just realised that I have hijacked your thread once again. Apologies.

Took the drivers door panel to my upholstery mate and he has replaced the cardboard backing for me, it was shot and water damaged.he has managed to save the original trim which is near perfect, there is 2 small holes but this is not a fancy rebuild, i intend to drive the wheels off this car !

just to add a extra level of protection i will paint the backing and add a new plastic film to water barrier the door from the card... i will post some pictures when i install it, which may not be this weekend, i am off to pick up some new toys i have purchased... Fitzy will know exactly what they are when i post pictures

Taking the ram and my mates trailer north to acquire my purchase... oh and i have blown any browny points i have with the boss again:rofl:... mines certainly not like notalltheres boss!!
