lidpainter, did you use  a mig? gas or flux core wire ?

and once welded, did you grind the weld or buff it with a wire wheel ?

Solid wire with argon mix. Ground it down, epoxy primed.

It’s discouraging whatever it is. Not the end of the world and I still have a lot of work I can do while I try to figure it out. I still have about a quart and a half of paint left so it’s no big deal I guess.

If it isn't dissimilar metals, contaminated welds, then could you be using primer, sealer, or paint that don't play nice with each other (hard to believe but not impossible)?

I am think of those 90s GM vehicles - especially Grand Prixes, Grand Ams, and Tahoes and Yukons that the paint literally blistered off over time because GM used a chemically incompatible primer vs paint. Only way to fix it was to literally grind the paint off to bare metal and re-primer and paint the car.

I’m waiting until spring to see what it does. Best case scenario is that it does not get worse. In the meantime I have tackled the fun task of aligning the hood/bumper/fenders. It took forever but I think I pulled it off. I have seen a lot of really nice cars at the shows with less than perfect front panel alignment so I did not have high hopes. Surprisingly, I think it’s up there with some of the best that I have seen. I never want to do it again but I’m glad I took the time to do it right.

Hope you are enjoying this car.  You have put A lot of work and effort into it and it looks amazing.  What a talent to be able to paint like that... kudos

Thank you. I was super busy this summer so barely touched it this year. Going to Norwalk next week to get inspired to get some work done.

I recall watching something on telly and it was some guys building a show quality car. Panel gaps were critical and little things like the trim that spreads across the front of the car (top of hood & fenders) were treated to additions of metal to ensure they were perfect. The amount of work involved is insane, but the result was second to none. You're obviously a perfectionist and good on you. In direct contrast, I just bolted my car together and wonder if it's going to make it when I go for a drive! Not really that bad but I probably could have spent some more time getting it right the first time.

IndymanJoe from the site will be there too.  He's meeting a guy from down south there for some parts.  He's the patina Lemans.  Are you going to Woodward for the Dream Cruise?  Or maybe back to the Bricks in Flint?
