Got some bad news today. Before the wreck I have had a small noise in the front end but really dident give it much thought. Well it has grown to a full blown noise. I brought it into the dealer and the drivers side ball joint is wasted. The lower control arm and ball joint is all one part on the g6's. Of course they dident have one on stock so they ordered it. Thursday the 6 is going in to be fixed as well as a 4 way alignment. I guess I can't complain 72k and her first major thing that has broken.

They're probably aluminum control arms, the ball joints CAN be pressed out, but you'd probably damage the arm in the process.

How's the other side? How's the outer tie rods? At that mileage they start to develop play.

  • Author

The inner and outer tie rods on both sides were replaced at 35k under warrantee. Only one side was bad but the dealer said that's like buying only one shoe. So the did both, it just dident make sense to them to do half a job. I was not going to argue the point since it was a warrantee job. And yes Chris the arm is aluminum and they said you cant put new ball joints in them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah, I figured. The tie rods, it is a good idea to replace in pairs, I tell the same thing to customers when they're in for alignment work.

  • Author

Yea I pulled on the tie rods when the car was in the air and there fine. As well the drivers side control arm / ball joint has no play in it at all.

Keep in mind that VHT Niteshades fade over time.

Yup that's why I'm doing the other one.

I'd do two medium coats, that's how I did my g/f's mom's Hyundai Tuson tails, they're a dark, deep red now.

  • Author

Yea I have two light coats on the new one and one on the old one. I'm thinking the old one will need one more coat.

To really get a polish, you'll need to wetsand and polish afterwards.

  • Author

Yea I'll have to buff them for sure but I'll let them dry up for a couple of days first.

All done not counting a good polish to shine them up. Sorry for the iPhone pics. THere darker than they use to be but should lighten up after they get polished.

Yea a bit darker than I wanted but I had to to make them match. I'm hoping they'll lighten up a bit after I polish them. We'll see in a couple of days when there dry enough to do so.
