Why did you get your Pontiac?

I got my 77 firebird esprit at 18. It has been my dream car since I was 16 when I first found out what a firebird was. When I finally had enough money to buy my first vehicle I began looking for a late 70s firebird or camaro. Pretty much everyone told me to buy a newer and more reliable car but I knew exactly what I wanted. After looking for about a month, one car finally showed up on the marketplace that looked to be in good condition and was running, that didn't need major restoration. I was able to buy the car for $6,500. I am 19 now and have had my firebird a little over 6 months and it is the best decision I ever made. 💙

Had a Electra 225 and a Wildcat in my school days.

Always wanted a big car again.

I sold 2 boats and 2 trucks after the lake land was sold out from under us. Found this ragtop last fall. 89k miles. Does not leak a drop. Working on detail to mIMG_20241016_192224.thumb.jpg.b56de46116b3b19d74fc2846b12f2e88.jpgake it even more noticeable.

This is indeed an interesting question; "Why did I get my Pontiac?"... I would have to say maybe the result of a few things. My dad, for one, always had a bit of a thing for the brand, as back in 1983 when he was a paper boy, had come upon a house with a showroom condition, all white, 1970 GTO "The Judge" parked out in the driveway. He promptly knocked on the door of the house, and asked if it was for sale. They said it was, and for a steal price (at least in today's eyes) of $4000. He ran home and told his dad, but he just chuckled and said, no, we can't do that. So he's always had a thing for Pontiac ever since that encounter, which has obviously influenced me. Second, when looking for a classic car to buy, my parents were more on the muscle car side of things, whereas I was open to really anything. In terms of muscle cars though, I know how much of a performance image and brand Pontiac had became by that era, so a Pontiac muscle car was always a possibility. Third, when this car came up for sale, we had a bit of a hard time contacting the seller, and this lasted 9 months. We started thinking the ad might've been a rouse or just fake or something, but that fatefull day in May 2025 had us going to see the car of myth for real. You could say it was "love at first sight" but I won't, as it's a bit of a cheezy saying, however I had become smitten once I layed eyes on it in person. We eventually decided we'd buy it, and settled on I price I thought was very fair, and now the rest is history. So, to answer the question in short, we bought our Pontiac because of the nostalgia, the performance and reliability, and plainly because we really did like the car, and it was reasonably priced. I'd have to say those are some of the best reasons for getting any Pontiac, and really any car in general.

  • 1 month later...

I got mine as a new start to the hobby of keeping the old and sometimes run down cars on the road.

I have loved pontiac from either the big screen (smokey and the bandid, nightrider) but rarely seen one in the flesh. Until i met a guy at a local all american oldtimer event with his Trans-am, we got to talking and exchanged info. One day he messaged me that a Pontiac bonneville was for sale. I went to look at it (almost a 2 hour drive away). I fell in love and drove back in the new to me Bonneville. All summer long it hasnt let me down once. So she is a keeper for sure.
