I Could Be In Real Trouble

Featured Replies

I could be in real trouble. It started Friday with my boy going with his cousin Grant and his dad to our local high school homecoming parade. Grant's dad is a salesman at the local Chevrolet dealer and he was driving one of the homecoming court girls in the local parade and half time show. He shows up at the house in a Victory Red 2012 Camaro RS convertible (with the top down). My wife takes an immediate liking to it. She has always wanted a red convertible that was not a two seater. We've talked for awhile about getting a 1996-2002 red Trans Am convertible.

During the parade, my wife gets a coupon for a test drive at the dealership. Take a test drive and the high school marching band gets $20. Buy a car, and the band gets another $100. My wife was in marching band in high school, so she knows the importance of raising money for the band. So on Saturday, we go to the dealership and test drove a new Camaro convertible. Grant's dad gives us a 2SS Camaro, not the RS he drove the day before. Sticker was $45.5K. Nice car....I got to drive it about 2 miles back to the dealership after my wife drive it for over 20 minutes. I think I've convinced her to buy the V8 over the V6 - for re-sale value purposes (assuming we get it)..

So my wife is talking about getting a red Camaro SS convertible. I am okay with that except it won't me "my" car, it will be "her" car. I get to trade the Avalanche in for it and I get the 2011 Travese instead. Just want I don't really want. As I have said before, a FWD vehicle is not my cup of tea. It is a cross over and it hurts my machismo ego quite a bit. The fact that I a married means I will have to just shut up about it and adapt. However, it doesn't mean I have to like it either.

The only saving grace right now is that money is tight since we bought this new house and we have not yet sold the old house. The sale is pending and it could go through anytime. Once the house is sold, then I can foresee my wife wanting to move forward and get the Camaro.

So I am torn. I like the idea of a Camaro in the family. I am not sure I want it to be her car though. I am so torn....

I am all for getting a Camaro, I may be a little biased though :) I don't know if I could buy a Camaro for my wife, if I myself weren't going to have one too though

I don't think I could drive a Traverse either though lol

technically is not just HER car, you're married. its now OUR car. :naughty:

Well his name will be on the title and payments too but she'll be the one daily driving it... so technically it's HER car

Dude, I may only be 18 and young, but I know that only works ONE WAY.

:agreed: Just like the statement "We should go there, we'll have fun!" means she wants to go there because she'll have fun and there's nothing you can do

You show wisdom beyond your years, young grasshopper.

Yeah, try to drive the car to the local car show or to friends houses in "our" car! I will get shotgun everytime, except when it comes time to put gas in it or clean it. Then it will be all mine to take care of. But I better not change the seats or the mirrors. That's the way it already is with the Traverse, and I don't really want to drive it period.

Ringo, I understand your bias but I am glad you can appreciate how this whole thing can affect a guy's machismo.

Show her modded Camaros, show her the potential in performance...when she does want mods, you'll know who she's gonna come to...

Not to mention, say you'll maintain it. ;)

I will show her some of the Trans Am & GTO mods. She didn't realize there was companies that did that sort of thing.

It is already a given fact that I am expected to maintain it. Nice idea though.

GO TO TRANS AM DEPOT!!!!!!!

Trade in the traverse.. problem solved? I didn't see a reason why you could do that other than maybe needing the seating.

Remember happy wife happy life.

Plus 5-10 years down the road you want the new ZR1 or w/e you have the upperhand because she got the camaro when she wanted it.

Easier said than done. The Avalanche, in her opinion, is a large gas hog (hey its a truck not a Prius). Plus the Avalanche is wide and it is hard (for her) to get the Traverse out of the driveway even when I am pulled all the way over in the driveway. The Traverse is "much more fuel efficient" too and I should be driving it to work since I drive long distance to work.

As for your expression about wife/life, I am still waiting for the former.

As for a ZL-1, no need. If I want a super performance Camaro, I just need to drive across the state to Grand Rapids MI and take the Camaro to Berger Chevrolet. Berger is the last remaining performance dealership left. In the hey day of Royal Pontiac, Mr. Norm, Yenko, Baldwin-Motion, and other performance dealerships, Berger was producing performance Chevys as well. Over the decades, the other dealerships have sold out or gone out of business. Berger never did. It is still in business today and they have continued to do performance enhancements to Corvettes and Camaros since the 60s. At Barrett-Jackson, I've seen a Berger pedigree add easily $30-40K to the value of a car.

Havoc, I have seen Trans Am Depot's work at the Detroit Autorama. They would be on my list of companies to look at. HPP in Sterling Heights MI produces a sharp '69 Trans Am tribute that is also pretty awesome.

If she gets a hotrod that means we start building the garage right. I will start working on the plans.

I certainly hope so.

Yeah sounds like your kinda out of luck lol. I wouldn't care about daily driving a camaro or a traverse. Than again I ordered a car that a few people think are ugly and it gets kinda horrible gas milage. It is a practical car that is also unpractical in the same regards. As long as the wife's happy nobody else matters heh heh.

Should have seen what I did this morning with my Camaro  The G6 battery is dead so instead of jumping it and getting stranded at work tonight I took the Camaro out. Trick is though the Camaro was in front of the G6 in the garage. Had to maneuver around the G6 and out of the garage. For all those who say Camaro's have major blind spots and hard to see, I  in your face  . (In hindsight, I should have just jumped the G6 and moved it because the Camaro's battery is in the trunk but this took less time lol)

Don't think your wife would have any problems getting around the Avalanche ;)

The gas guzzling well that's another topic where she may have a point if you're about to buy another gas guzzler lol.

Interesting point....if the G6 was behind the Camaro and the Camaro's battery is in the trunk (I am not sure how hard it is to get to in the first place), why didn't you try to jump start the G6 with the Camaro in the first place. Mind you, I recognize the need to drive the Camaro when the situation arises.

I understand a truck is less efficient than a car. It is makes up for in it's versatility. We bought a new house this past spring and we've been moving and hauling stuff ever since between the old and new houses. She's not complaining about it being useful, just it costs $100 a tankful. How much stuff can a loaded Traverse carry with the seats folded down vs. an Avalanche? A lot more.

The driveway issue is that we are limited on the width of the driveway due to it practically being on the property line. Since the Traverse sits in the garage and the Avalanche sits outside, I have to pull over the left as much as possible. The Avalanche and the Traverse are not the narrowest of vehicles. So she is afraid of running on the grass or scraping the two cars together.

Well turns out the jump leads were not in the garage like I thought anyway, turns out my dad had them, so point is mute now  My real thought point was if I jumped the G6 and drove to work that I would have the same problem but at work at the end of the day so figured I have the oppertunity to take another car and get to/from work without any problems so might as well. Then I just got in the Camaro and didn't think to start looking for the jump leads just to jump the G6 and move it out of the way, keep in mind this all happened at 6:30am

Definitely agree with the Avalanche but go convince the wife! :D

I would keep the avalanche def. also but if wifey aint happy no one is happy. You don't keep a jumpbox or jumpercables in your cars, I have a combo of both. If I am at work I would just use a jump truck though most likely, I have jumped more cars before than I care to imagine though.

I had to jump a Farmall H with the Phoenix one time. What? haha

How did you get the Phoenix in and out of the cow pasture in the first place? I imagine a black Phoenix shows cow pies real good. :dancingpontiac:
