REQUEST: engine cleaning

Featured Replies

I have engine shampooed my truck many times but I have never done it on my car or my wife's car. Is there any special prep that I need to do? Is there a particular product that you would recommend? I usually just wipe the covers down with simple green and shop towels but I want to do a better job.

merged the two threads since your both asking the same thing.

make sure the engine is cool and electronics are covered........douse the entire engine and compartment with simple green........let sit for about 15 min..........use a hose (or ideally a powerful spray) and rinse off......worked amazing for my car.

wut do you mean electronics like all the connecters and wires?

I think hes talking about things like the computer, battery, plugs, fusebox ect. I agree that simple green is great stuff and making sure the engine has cooled off. When I was a kid I clean the engine and did not let it cool off and cracked my starter lol. Nothing like learning the hard way I told my dad and he was like dummy did you let everything cool down before spraying cold water on it. I was like ummm no dumb young jedi FTL. lol

i know but i dont know where anything is in my car..

and unless ur power washing with like 9000psi water everything else should be fine.

Best way to wash your engine: Take it to a professional, that way, it's done right, and you don't have to worry about paying for messing up your electronics accidentally :(

I just found out a friend from highschool opened a detailing shop here and he said $24.00 per car or $40.00 if I bring mine and the wife's car in at the same time.
