I made a topic quite awhile ago about Sonic 4 being released in the online Xbox360 arcade, whelp, it's now available for touch screen mobile users. And the carryover didn't lose it's luster one bit.

Now, as many of you know, I'm a huge old school Sonic fan. The Genesis era was Sonic's best games. I will admit though, a few new games have caught my attention, and proved to be pretty decent. Sonic Colors being one, but alas, I don't have a Wii. This game is supposed to be a sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Not exactly it's storyline per say, but more in the vain of the side scrolling, platforming action that put Sonic on the map to begin with. No voice overs, vut scenes, nada. This game doesn't need that.

Onto the game: so far, I'm four levels in. The graphics aren't stellar, but the framerate is excellent. The graphics are 3D, as are the backdrops and levels themselves, but it's still a 2D side scroller. I've been saying for years, Sonic should come back in this fashion, and somebody listened. Sonic's movements are a bit iffy, but that's due to the touch controls. They take awhile to get used to. The music is excellent, I'm very nit picky with what music is used in newer Sonic games, but Team Sonic actually used the same style (as far as the drum beats) from Sonic 2. Yes, I actually picked up on that, I'm that much of a fanboy. The sound effects are mostly the sounds from the 16bit Genesis games, with some new dashed in. Since this is on the iPod, there's a few acts in the levels that were specially catered to the motion physics of the device. The special stage levels require you to rotate the iPod around as Sonic rolls through the funky maze, for example.

All in all, I'm very surprised and happy with the game so far. And the replay value is pretty much like that of the Genesis games before. They're normally $5 from the App Store, but for the next week, it's for $3. One of the best, and in depth iPod games I've purchased.

  • That doesn't change with marriage I want you to know. The only thing that changes when she is finally ready, "why aren't you ready?" and "why haven't you warmed up the car already?".

Nifty. I didn't realize Video Games went here too.

Yup, I probably should add it to the description but yes they go there lol

My nephew got for Xmas Sonic Unleashed for the WII and its wild. The graphics are 3D (including the world) and like nothing I have ever seen before. The opening movie to set up the game was so crazy good. I did not play the game but it looks hard.

More details about the game.

There are four levels, each with three acts and a boss act. And of course, seven special stage levels for the Chaos Emeralds.

But what I've picked up on, is that the levels hint at Sonic's past games. The level designs themselves are all new, but the backdrops are familiar.

Two levels hint at the original Sonic, and the other two hint at Sonic 2. And the Special Stages are like that of the original game.

To sum up the levels:

Splash Hill Zone: mix of Green Hill Zone (Sonic 1) and Emerald Hill Zone (Sonic 2)

Casino Street Zone: Casino Night Zone (Sonic 2)

Lost Labyrinth Zone: Labyrinth Zone (Sonic 1)

Mad Gear Zone: Metropolis Zone (Sonic 2)

Even the badniks throughout the levels were recognizable from 1, 2 and even the 3rd game (Which I thought was interesting, since the level set itself was very Sonic 1 and 2)

Granted, this game has been dubbed "Episode I" and I'm very curious to see what further episodes will be like. Personally, Sonic 3 & Knuckles was my absolute favorite, and I hope to see levels inspired by that game as well.

the kids got a Wii for xmas, and the missus Sonic Colors. She was a big sonic fan from the genesis too. Too flashy for my liking.

I got the boys Monster truck mayhem and Redneck farm animal racing .... really a pair of hoots. We needed another remote tho ... so I nipped out to buy one, and found FlingSmash with a remote included selling for the same price as a bare remote so I picked it up ... figured the game would be a lame duck .... nope, the kids love it.

We don't have NFS Hot Pursuit. We were checking it out at Target but are a little too into GT5 right now to do much of anything else. :pop_corn:
