AC Delphi Commemorative Spark Plugs

Featured Replies

In other threads, I have said that I began my working career at AC Spark Plug Division of GM. I worked there until 1993 when I was transferred to Buick City / GM Powertrain. AC was eventually folded in Delphi Automotive that GM spun off in the late 1990s/early 2000. The site was closed and torn down in 2007 as one of 22 sites Delphi shuttered. Today, I was given a gift by my neighbor's ex-husband. It was a gift that I certainly didn't expect. You see, he also worked at AC and Delphi. He gave me a pair of spark plugs, but not just any spark plugs.

It seems before the old AC kilns were shut off for good, one last batch of spark plugs were made. A commemorative run with both the AC and Delphi logos on it, with the years 1908 to 2006 on it. That is how long we made spark plugs in Flint Michigan. I am nearly in tears over this gift. It brings back a lot of happy memories of my early years, colleagues long gone, and a day when business was great and we made a million plugs a day. Words fail me right now, I am so deeply touched at this final memento from my youth.

So here is to AC Spark Plug Division / AC Rochester Division / Delco Electronics / AC Delco Systems / Delphi Automotive. Thanks for the memories!

Very cool to have a piece of history like that.

Indeed. I never knew these existed. I have a lot of the old AC coffee mugs and such, but this was a complete and total shocker.

Pride in our work, pride in our product. NOT just given...EARNED. I recently posted a new thread with much of the same sediment bro. Administration didn't approve it. WE know! It's a shame they will probably never know or care til its too late. Those are some awesome tribute pieces. Another piece of AMERICAN automotive history bought out.

awesome. how many were made?

I have no idea. I will have to ask my neighbor. Each kiln could fire over 500,000 ceramic insulators a day and there were 2 kilns.
