Featured Replies

Another legendary California car customizer has died. Dean Jefferies was most famous for creating the Monkees "Monkeemobile" GTO Phaeton and the Green Hornet's "Black Beauty" 66 Imperial, died in his sleep at the age of 80, on May 5, 2013. He was also an accomplished custom painter.

There will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, June 2, at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona California. Information about Dean and his life's work can be found below.

Who doesn't? It was amazing with how little time Dean had to produce the two made for the show. I have often wonder if he ever regretted not buying one or both cars back from the studio after the show was cancelled? After Dean passed on buying them back, that's how George Barris came to own one for near 50 years. The other one, well its a mystery why things happened to that one - at least it has a happy ending. Luckily for me, the guy that bought the Barris Monkeemobile at Barrett-Jackson lives here in SE Michigan. So I get to see it during the Woodward Dream Cruise at least.

Perhaps my Fav Pontiac of all time. HEY HEY...

I have to agree. It is pretty wild.

Interesting video on the Monkeemobile. I knew some of these stories only because I have been up close to the #2 car here in Michigan several times. I think Jim Wangers wrote about the GM reaction to the Monkeemobile in his book. The low rider story is news to me though. Glad I never saw that version.
