Ok... so i got this email at work... this is what it said

Sent: Thursday, February 04, 2010 12:21 PM

Subject: Criminals

Do you realize that by offering classes in Spanish or any language other than English you are helping criminals stay in the USA. You are assisting in every rape, murder and drunk driving accident by helping non-English speaking people function in America! I am appalled that public universities help present your programs. It is very callous of you to use tax dollars to help lower the wages of many Americans.

Our department has a general mailbox and that is where he sent it.

Just a quick history lesson, I'm gonna say, please do not be offend by this and I am not backing this guy up. I do believe there should be classes in Spanish, Polish, etc... but I also believe in order to become a United States Citizen you should be required to speak English fluently. When my great grandparents came to the US, it was kinda required that they dropped their native language, Polish and Gaelic (Irish form), and learn English. They weren't offered any jobs till they learned English and it also was looked upon as we are entering a new country we should be apart of it and not totally lose our connections to our native country but be apart of a whole new country, thus both my mom and my dad were never taught Polish (mom) and Gaelic (dad) because they believed that it was un-American to speak anything but English outside of the home, plus they wanted good lives for their kids and so on that they didn't teach too much of it in the homes.

There was no help me learn English classes, it was pick it up any way you can. That's why I firmly believe that we should have English learning classes now.

I have to agree with this man right here, and I mean no offense to anyone, anywhere, anyhow. If you want to move to our country from anywhere, Welcome to the USA, we're glad to have you hear. But, I don't feel that we should adapt to your native language because you've come here. English is the native language of the US, so why must one learn a new language for new comers? This "Press 1 for English" has gotten too far. It's disappointing to say the least.

Again, I mean nothing to anyone, I live right on the Canadian border, in a state that was nearly part of Canada many years ago. I have no problem with ANYONE from any country, but I feel as if there's certain things that this country needs to keep intact, and our language is one of them.

I do agree with english being the dominant language.. thats cool but to be ignorant and just blab your mouth saying hispanics are criminals, free loaders and what not... is just THAT... IGNORANT. Criminals, free loaders, peeps on welfare come in all shapes, sizes, races, ethinc background etc. don't make hispanics your target because you know most will be intimidated because of their status here in the U.S. thats just B.S.

i completely agree with this and so do my parents. my parents are full mexican and were born and raised in mexico. its awesome to learn another language and it helps with the job market out here now a days. but, my dad still struggles with english but he tries. unlike a lot of REAL LAZY PEOPLE that dont try. I'm just saying though, this douche bag is kind of calling all other nationalities out. WTF would happen to him if he were to go to another country and they said the same shit about him??? ah how the tables have turned. lol
