Had the call from broker that bought it a year ago for first crack at buying it back as he had 6 cars ready to ship to NZ and shipping costs rose to quadruple ffom when Impala went, buyers backed out and I " figured" he's in a jam!! Said " make me a decent offer" so I did [ less than I sold it for] SOLD!! He even had it shipped by flat bed back here and it was still in my name, BONUS! Paint had been wet sanded, buffed and ceramic coated, looks better than when it went!!! Canadian Pontiac, has 355 SBC, thumper "cam", Holley 650, BW T10 4 speed & 355 POSI and frt. Disc brakes

Do I get the right of first refusal if you decide to sell it again Pete?

Of course you do, but you’ll have to wait till I can’t push clutch pedal anymore or left leg falls off!🤣🤣🤣🤣

That's okay. I wear a knee brace only on my right leg.  So I can still mash the go-fast pedal. LOL!

Double disc clutch is pretty heavy!

  • Solution

So are you saying I need to get another knee brace to just push in the clutch?

Greeeeeaaaaatttt!

Well done Pete !

i had herd that not long after i had my 57 shipped to nz that prices for shipping went through the roof and the company i had used, justA shut their doors !!

would have been cool to see your 64 cruising the roads of nz !!!...

JustA means my new project (63 safari ) wont have any freinds to park with ☹️hahahaha

would you mind posting some more pictures? it would be interesting on the differances

Sure no problem once I get finished putting mechanical fan  on, only has electric one , guy lost the fan blade as I didn’t get it back on! 64 Impala 409 went to NZ early last summer ! Before rate’s went crazy! Is your Safari a US model or Canuck! If US there’s a ton of differences!!!

Yeah the 63 is a USA model . It was shipped new to American Samoa as a government car

then shipped to nz for repairs and never went back !

Am I right in saying all the glass and trim above the belt line is the same as Chevy ?

One thing I note is my 63 has the same roof rack as your 64 .. except mine has rust in the oval horizontal bars … they must be only chromed steel

I’m looking at a 64 US sales brochure I have and appears Catalina and Bonniville wagons have same overall length (213.8” ) and Wheel base , WB is 1” shorter  on  both wagons,( 119” )  than the other non wagon models . I’ll get my “ specs for Cdn wagon and compare and get back to you. If the same then assume your right🤞🤞🤞

Pete, you dont have to say, but what is your 64 worth ? i had to guess at a price when i purchased the 63 as there is none in nz to compare price with !! i paid 10k nzd for this

it has had a chev 12 bolt replace the pontiac diff and had disc brakes added. so its all chev stud pattern

By the door trim, yours is a Bonniville! Notice on Cdn heater control it’s a “ slide levers where as US ones have push buttons that look like 2 radio in dash! Added a short video of it running and hopefully you can hear the “ Lumpy “ camshaft! Dash basically the same but clock is a bit different! I that converted to quartz by “ The Clock Works “ in Wisconsin and just had the 74 Grandville one done! Excellent workmanship and great !

Forgot about this one! Says “ Pontiac 327 Turbo Fire” on rocker covers but is really 010 4 bolt main 350 out to 358 with “ double bump” heads, aluminum high rise intake ( painted) and “ Lumpy “ camIMG_2754.thumb.jpeg.3b3e81b2a6dbe9f4886aa791030d2eb5.jpeg

Biggest difference is the frame! US Pontiac has the “ Perimeter “ frame! Where as the Cdn Poncho has the ( 58 to 64) X frame from the Chevy! And all Chev drivetrain components. I was surprised to see the dimensions were the same on these two cars!

Chris, as per valuation, take your figures and double it + some ! My insurance company valued it  for just under $24 grand Canadian dollars! Don’t know how that compares to NZ $  Regarding my 64 Impala 409 / 4 speed, going over there, the only thing I know is that buyer has a extensive collection of 62 to 64 Impala’s and all 4 speed cars ???

Wow nice Pete !

that dash is similar yet different

man’s you can certainly here that cam

Chris, is yours RHD?  I’ve seen some CDN Pontiac’s that were shipped to Australia as Kd’s ( knock downs) and assembled there but they had Chev RHD dashboards supplied! Especially 65 and up!! Don’t know if US did the same?

No Pete

lefty. And it has a dash very much like my 64 …. Lots of chrome . Gauge pods to the right of the speedo that looks justA like yours :dancingpontiac:

I know the Chevy dash your referring too as I used to have a 61 impala with that long dash

Back in the day, if you were in Oz and you wanted a Pontiac, it came from Canada, as you say in CKD form. Our Parisiennes are X frame Chevs with Chev running gear draped in Pontiac sheetmetal, complete with Chev dash - not sure about interior trim.

If you had to have a US Pontiac, you ordered it through the local Holden dealer at enormous cost, then had to have it converted to RHD and probably seat belts and amber rear indicators. There's a 65 GP in SE Queensland that was imported new and converted and is in pristine unrestored condition.

I feel for you folks “ down under” with the steering wheel on the “ wrong” side🤣🤣🤣 and having to convert to RHD! It must be costly and hard to find RHD parts for N American vehicles? Years ago I met a couple from Australia at a POCI convention in South Carolina ( not a member any more) and heard about having to convert!

Here in NZ Pete . Anything over 20 years old doesn’t have to be converted

And 500 special interest cars are allowed in each year in lhd configuration

hence my hellcat 2016 was able to stay left hook .

Interesting. So, do you have to buy a permit or win a lottery to be one of the people who get to have one of the 500 special interest cars? Or is it first come first serve?

The rules in Oz are similar. Finally, it was realised that you can't mess with a bona fide classic car so all the rules changed. Unfortunately too late for some owners who had to butcher their cars in order to comply. There are horror stories of owners being made to fit inertia reel lap/sash belts in hardtops - I'm not sure what happened if you had a convertible.

Speaking of seatbelts, I remember visiting the US probably in the 90s and picked up a hire car and was gobsmacked by the ridiculously complicated seatbelt system that once you turned the ignition on, the body side of the belt was on a mechanised runner that moved into place and would hang there and the car wouldn't go unless you buckled up. How long did that last for?
