I don't want to end up sitting on the couch sporting a 3 day growth watching Ellen & Dr Phil surrounded by beer cans and pizza boxes. Noooooo....!

What's wrong with beer and pizza mate?

I agree, Frosty. Beer & pizza are gifts from the gods, but not every day and definitely not in front of the telly in the middle of the day. I have made a list of crappy little domestic jobs that I can do today - you know the stuff that you put off because the car needs something and everything else can wait? Well, today is the day that I potter about doing that. Beer WILL follow, but not until 5 o'clock. Sure, I like a drink but I impose a strict curfew on myself - not a drop til 5 o'clock. It even rhymes.

Hmmm interesting concept there mate !!!

But 5 pm where you live ? Or can the rules be bent to suit say 5 pm New Zealand or say 5 pm Michigan time

As they say - it's 5 o'clock somewhere and I'm okay with that. It's only 1615 here now and I am hanging out for a beer. Perhaps I should use the International Five O'Clock Rule.

New Fuel Pump Fitting Drama:

This is how you turn the simplest little task into a Cecil B DeMille production. First of all, procure a new fuel pump. Hmm...the fittings for the hoses are different. In fact, the manufacturer decided to completely reverse each fitting. No problem, they both take 3/8 fuel hose. Wait a minute. The 90° brass adapter won't screw into new pump because it fouls against the pump body. Right - I'll measure it and buy a straight one. I measured across the threads and came up with 1/2". Drive for an hour to my nearest auto parts supplier and examine their array of brass fittings. Hmm..packet says 1/2" but it's way bigger than mine. The bloke next to me shares my conundrum and advises me of a shop in Cairns that specialises in this sort of thing. I drive another 30 mims and it turns out it's a 1/4" fitting. Believe me, it measures 1/2" across the threads but I suppose BSP threads must have a standalone measuring regime. Whatever, he sells me the correct part.

Have a look at the original bolts - they are 12 point 3/8". They are the ONLY 12 point bolts on the entire engine. They are factory (I googled it) and I don't know why. I bought 2 hex head bolts to replace them.

I am just about to physically fit the new pump.  If I come across more drama, I'll be sure to let you know.20220228_115718.thumb.jpg.285145188342d7fd50f31cf41e72d98c.jpg

gota love rock auto mate!!! i had the same thing with my pump, connections where opposite.... and your right, thats 1/4 bsp... crack up aye!!

i get that all the time with gas fittings for campers and caravans! ...got to watch out too for threads that maybe 1/4 bsp but are 3/8 npt !!!

none the less... its piece of mind to do a fuel pump so you know the whole system is 100%

 hows the arm mate ???

I had to use pink (gas rated) plumber's tape to get the new brass fitting to seal AND I really had to crank it tight - I hate doing that with pipe threads because you are just waiting for that moment when the threads strip. So what's the deal with BSP thread sizing? Why is the actual thread diameter not a true representation of it's size? I kept scratching my head looking at that damn 1/4" fitting knowing full well it was half an inch across the threads!

Anyway, started the car, no leaks and pump appears to work but will only know once out on the highway giving it the gas.

Do you remember if you had the same 12 point bolts? That has really stumped me, as I can't see any obvious reason why Pontiac would have specified them.

Arm is fine, thanks. It's still a bit tender and looks pretty gruesome but it appears to be healing nicely. Chicks dig scars, huh? Watch out ladies! Scar Man is in town tomorrow. Oh, car goes for it's inspection tomorrow. I just know the wider Tragic Pontiac Fraternity will be holding an all night vigil, praying that it passes.

no. my factory bolts where justA standard ones, i am sure yours has been changed, no way would they be using 12 point in 1965.

I looked it up - other peeps were wondering why they had 12 pointers too. Weird.

mate... thats good that the arm is healing nicely:cheers: you will not even think about it in 12 months time....

whats more important is making sure the inspector tomorrow has been given the full works when it comes to sucking up and i know from my other mates on your side of the ditch that they can be right arse holes.

my advise... give him something to think about and all the other will be fine...

The handbrake could probably do with a tighten up, so I have left that for him to pick on. I pumped all the tyres up to 50 psi to ensure that I have 100mm of clearance under the car's lowest point! Otherwise, everything works or has been replaced. Let's see.

you know what mate......

i am pist off. i have had a guts full of this covid stuff and am hanging out to travel again. now  here we have some dick head invading  another country, F--ing up everything for all of us AGAIN.

how bloody rude is that!!

dont you think that some where along the way, we could justA have a few years of piece and quiet ! :stars:

Yeah, nobody knows why Russia would do such a thing and China are being tight lipped about it. THAT'S the worrying part. If those two hook up, it's all over. Anyway, probably not a discussion for here.

As further proof of my boredom, I looked up BSP threads. Clear as mud.

yes there you go, it measures near 1/2 inch.... weird aye!!!

there has to be a simple reason why they are called different measurements aye

Ha ha! Chicken wire was dispensed with many months ago. It's not a good look - the only place chicken wire looks good is in a chicken coop or in Bob's Country Bunker (Blues Bros.)

You found evidence of rodent activity? The bastards chewed on my nice new 8mm solid core HT leads. Get your traps out.

When I had my own rodent problem I googled what others had to say - my god, the horror stories. They love wires, cables & hoses coz they think they're roots. On old cars, you can sorta cope but when your 21st century car bristling with electronics gets it's wires chewed, it's hundreds if not thousands in repairs. Keep an eye on the Boss's Mini.

If they make it inside the car that's when the fun starts. Then you get ratshit, nests AND chewed wires. Good luck.

yip that happend 3 years ago

the bosses cooper works black mini, the f---cker got under the bonnet, ate the bottom out of the window washer bottle to get to water, then chewed the wiring on the top of the motor and had a field day with the under hood insulation...

the car had to be shipped to auckland to the mini garage to be repaired... it was away for 3 months that time.... every part had to come from bmw in Europe
