problem finding a master cylinder for my 55.

Featured Replies

I can find no one that lists the correct master cylinder for my 55 Chieftian.  I have tried ordering 2 that say they have the correct one and both times it's one that mounts to the firewall.  Mine mounts to the frame.  See photo.  Everyone says the one on the left fits.  Mine is the one on the right.  Anyone know where I can buy a new one?

Who have you tried so far? That way we know who not to look at or list again. I will do some checking.

I'm glad you said yours is frame mounted much like the late 40s/early 50s pickups.

My first thought was to look at Kanter Auto Parts for that style of part. Their photo looks correct. It can't hurt to call them. '55-57 master cylinder  $164

I called California Pontiac Restoration.  They said that they carry the frame mounted MC.  Someone from HAMB said that they had them. THanks.

Happy to help. Got to keep that build on track!

Just what I was thinking Sprint! That’s actually what, I, would do, but I would just bore it out to the next size up and make a new piston for the next size up seals. In that way you’ll move more fluid and make the brakes even better! Any good machine shop could do that.
