Sorry guy's It's been really busy around here today. So, with NO adjustments other than a quick "street" tune in the carb we took it for a test drive. The video's below. Then the cops showed up, asked us if we'd been racing the car up and down the street. With a huge grin said yes sir that was me! Explained what was going on and that we were testing it and everything we ALL have done to get her where she is. Cop was cool, asked if we were done for the night and if we could keep it down a bit and left. I sent the videos to a couple of the guys who came over and had a drink to celebrate! Tell me what y'all think, I'm thinking fine tuning, but she sounded good.

Seriously, thank you guys for all your help! Last Indian, Justa6, Kiwi, Frosty, Fitzy, B52bombardier1 and anybody else who I didn't mention or forgot, thank for your help and your patience you have know idea how much it has meant.

On a side note, after pulling in the drive I decide to go up the road and let my son drive around the parking lot. As I put her in gear the car died, out of gas rofl

I'm going to go back and tune the carb, not sure if I need to "tweak" or adjust anything else in the timing still. But she felt good.

No pics, they normally don't like that lol, but the cop was cool. We know a few of the local cops have been watch the progress over the past couple of years. We even caught a couple on video that after responding to a call a couple buildings down, walked over and were looking in the car windows and walking around her. They could be heard talking about the dash. We even didn't know until a friend down the street texted asking why the cops were outside my house and if everything was ok. For the most part they cut us a little slack and we try not to push it too far.

Great news Wrongway. Sounds really good. Was a very busy day yesterday, friend passed away. Did the idle smooth out at all?

Sorry to hear about your friend, you have my condolences.

Yes sir it did. All I did so far was adjust the air/fuel screws to get the highest RPMs and then backed off justa hair for the test derive. The idle smoothed out and vibration settled down. I do have plans of getting more gas today and doing a proper tune and vacuum tune on the carb if the rain holds off. I didn't get a chance to get you the numbers at zero yet, but I will get those after tuning the carb. Any suggestions on what the idle should be set at when I'm done?

Ok brother, I'm really confused. As we stated before though we did have timing issues in the past. That said, NO adjustments have been made since the last time we spoke. So I decide to double check our numbers and get you the numbers at zero before tuning the carb in case there is something else, you want me to change. So, the only thing I did was back the idle down to 550 RPMs.

So our last numbers with

550 RPMs 8° #6 on tab vac disconnected

2500 RPMs 20° #6 on tab vac disconnected

1500 RPMs 33° #6 on tab vac connected

Today when I went to double check:

550 RPMs 0° #6 on tab vac disconnected

2500 RPMs 15° #6 on tab vac disconnected

1500 RPMs 29° #6 on tab vac connected

We DID NOT make any adjustments; car was out of gas and justa put in 5 gallons before this test. The timing light did mess up a couple times like the pictures showed the other day. Unplugging it seemed to fix it.

I did continue to get you the numbers at zero as you requested, but remember the double-checked numbers are different and these were gotten after double checking.

550 RPMs 5° on #0 on tab vac disconnected

2500 RPMs 21° on #0 on tab vac disconnected

1500 RPMs 35° on #0 on tab connected

With all the said, the RPMs did sound a bit lower after she was warmed up, but the engine did not diesel when shut off. I'm justa confused at why the timing numbers would be different today from two days ago. I got mid-grade fuel again, same octane justa different station, I did not put in octane booster this time though, but I wouldn't think that could change timing numbers, could it?

I did also double check the dist. hold down to make sure it was tight, it was.

I did reach out to Summit about a replacement timing light. After posting my last message. They are replacing it and said new one should be here tomorrow.

Ok! I actually think that makes sense. Sorry I’m old school! I trust straight ahead zero! Not so much bumping Nuer up & down to see a number that doesn’t belong there. But, if I step through your numbers I see this. At 550 you had 8* @ #6 now you have 5* @ 0 that’s 3 degrees difference. @2500 you had 20* @ #6 now you have 21*@ 0, that’s 1* difference. @1500 you had 33* now you have 35*@ 0 @ 1500 that’s 2 degrees. All of that is pretty close considering.

Look at it this way. First I don’t know what kind of voodoo magic they use to get numbers to show up where they don’t belong. Secondly the spacing between 6 & 0 is pretty small. Trying to differentiate a couple of degrees is probably a little tough. So I honestly think you are good.

Ok awesome, I was concerned. It still sounded great and no dieseling at all. So, I'm good moving on to tuning the carb and driving it then?

Ok, so no work on Rosey today. Mama had me preoccupied. But I will be putting a proper tune in the carb tomorrow and after we take a test drive, I promised my son that if all went well, we would DRIVE to the gas station to actually put gas in her. I know that doesn't sound like a big deal, but before I bought her, she hadn't run for 9 years. The few times I did try to drive her we put gas from a can, and I think she broke down each time, overheated due to the radiator, trans went out, and a few attempts that never made it out of the driveway. I've owned the car for over seven years now. Do the math, that's 16 years at least since she's had gas pumped into her! So yeah, we're pretty excited! Also, I did get my summit package with the new timing light, again, the last one is taped up ready to go back and the new trans dip stick. Something about a trans dip stick with homemade fill marks cut in to it makes me very nervous after seeing the shotty work the previous owner did. Wish us luck! driving

Ok so we drove to get gas,,, and made it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tuned the carb and maybe went a hair to rich because she did diesel a tiny bit when I turned her off at the pump. But she did great and I let my son do the honors of pumping the first gas in 16 years! When I got back, I redid the tune in the carb, and she did not diesel this time. The idle is set at about 1400 in park and drops to 750 in gear. any suggestions on what a 428 should be at in gear?

i bet you had a smile from ear to ear P

It should be 750 to 900 rpm in park mate, so your idle was too high

What Kiwi said! In gear 550 - 650. I use to like to do my mixture screw adjustments in gear, automatic obviously, but if you do be very careful. And in reality neutral is probably good enough.

I normally set my idle speed in gear, it was about 500 and I bumped it up to 750 for the ride to the gas station. When I went back to park it jumped up to 1400. You also do your air/fuel mixture in gear? Is there any benefit to that or justa preference?
