Hey guys.. I was finally able to find the time to start the rebuild on my 4.1L Firebird.. Here are some pics of the engine removal.

Can't overlook the DARK side of all this.  The busted knuckles, wrong parts, THE LANGUAGE and hours spent on your new obsession.

I would have to say the addiction leads to an addition.. I got a little work done on it today.. I’m a single father Of a 5 year old so my time is very limited. The cylinder walls look near perfect and the underside of the valve cover is so clean I’m almost thinking this thing may not be as untouched as I was told..

Just got a call from the machine shop.. Apparently someone has already bored the cylinders .040 and put forged pistons in.. I’m just wondering does that drop the value of a matching numbers car?

IMO; I don't think a rebuild of the original engine hurts/lowers value as long as all the major components are there with the correct #'s & Dates. It's just not untouched but still the original engine. I'm on round two on my '66 @ .030.  I've also had another one .060 which is about max on these little engines.

You sure got lucky with that one.  It happens once in awhile I just picked up a '67 230 earlier this year with unknown internal condition. Turned out to be a Low mile SR short block.

What exactly is an SR block? 

SERVICE REPLACEMENT, which means either there was a warranty claim and/or over the parts counter purchase for a replacement. They use different numbers but castings and code remain/match said car. This one was heading to the scrapper so I took a road trip and picked it up before it was gone.  As far as your build who did you choose on the Machine work?  

It’s a local machine shop In town called D&S machining. He just hot tanked and magnafluxed it since the cylinder walls looked good.
