  1. I wouldn't hold my breath on that one ... he's up to what... 6?

I'm not even gonna attempt to read that. I know where it's gonna go.
  3. FML!!! Well, the question of rebuild or replace just became moot. I need to make driveway space to get the Parisienne up on stands to get a good look about, and unfortunately the guy that was supposed to take the camper that's taking up my driveway blew out the tranny on his towtruck last week and hasn't got it sorted just yet. (I feel his pain) So I took out the digital camera and stuck my arm in as far as I could to take some photos ... hoping for a lucky shot that would tell me where the leak was. What I got ruined my day.
  4. All i'm gonna say is ... that would last about 10 minutes on a K-bec road.
  5. I had to have my Parisienne evaluated when I bought it last spring before they would let me plate it. The gov't needed to make sure they got as much sales tax money as they could. Cost me $125 for a report of $500 that they used to charge me $4.00 tax against. But ... knowing why i needed the report, they guy did admit to lowballing it with nitpicking. Normally on a car this age, the sagging headliner and non-functional seat rails would be ignored. Guy wished me the best of luck with my 'project car *wink wink*'. Good thing he 'forgot' to have me start it.
  6. Ah ... well when you put it that way, it makes a lot more sense. Thanks.
  7. Can't say as I've ever heard that term before.
  8. While I appreciate the offer .. I somehow don't think that shipping costs are gonna save me anything over having one cut and welded locally.
  9. as bad as that might appear ... that looks like there was an underground parking lot under there. the ones up top were lucky.
  10. I haven't managed to find one B-body in a bone yard within 100 miles. they all met the crusher long since. Only place I might turn up one is NY.
  11. Thanks for the move .. I wasn't sure where it should go.
  12. following what looked for all the world like a blood trail through the work parking lot, I found my car bleeding to death at the end of it. Looks like a tranny seal has let go. Given that it's 25 years old and with winter closing in fast, I had the decision to make ... just try and replace the seal, or yank it and rebuilt it before the snow flies. Given that I've never seen the inside of a tranny, I thought I'd give Craig's list a try and see if I couldn't pick up a half dead th350 to rebuilt .. that way I'd not be taking my car off the road for long. And if I screwed up the rebuild .. I'd still have the old one to pop back in while I try to figure out what went wrong. a brief look over netted me three options. One th350 .. without lock up (mine has supposedly) for $75 ... no promises. One th350 without lockup $300 ... looks to be a mild performance build less that 5000km on it. Both have their torque converters with them. The third option is a 700r4 from an s-10. says it has 57000km on it, but it looks clean as a whistle and has the TC with it. $250. That gives me the desired overdrive that my car lacks .. but more work is involved than a straight swap ... might even have to change drive shafts .. I don't have the lengths yet to confirm that . She says she's selling it with a 3 month warranty. no details on how that's going to work either. So those are my options. $75, and still have to do a full rebuild and lose the lockup. $300 no rebuild needed (unless he trashed it and is lying) and lose the lockup. Or $250, lose the lockup for a 4th gear ... but have to make it work. whatever i do, it has to be done quick. The last 2 weeks have seen sub zero C temps and scraping windows every morning.
  13. I've spent the last couple of days hunting up tires for the missus' Malibu. Best deal I've found so far is Sears for Continental Extreme Contact (205/65r15) for $79 a corner. Tirerack.com ranks it above Blizzak.
  14. I won't even let a garage change my oil without me supervising.
  15. right ... No Killer Tomatos fans here, I see. Let's try again. No, I don't think I will kiss you, although you need kissing, badly. That's what's wrong with you. You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how. They don't get easier than that.
  16. Heartbreak ridge ... one of the few Eastwood flicks I like The President: Take air force one. Jim Richardson: Sir, Air Force one is broken The President: Broken? Jim Richardson: Yes sir. The President: The whole plane? Jim Richardson: In a sense sir, you remember where the Washington monument used to be?
  17. Evaporust has good reviews, as does regular white vinigar.
  18. Missing what they were now ... probably not. What they were in the past? what they used to represent before corporate management rendered them obsolete? Yeah .. just like Olds.
  19. I dunno if all of Canuckistan has it, but k-bec put that law in a couple of winters back. Now all the dealerships are looking at including a set of winters in the sale. With winter tires ... it's not just the bite from the tread, but the flex of the softer rubber compound. Even on clear pavement, when the temp gets down a/s tires stiffen up enough to make a big difference. I don't know what the mid-winter temps are like there. Ocean currents may keep it warm enough to keep a/s flexible enough.
  20. I'd pay good money for someone to start that engine.
  21. Well ... I'm a few miles north of you, and we're obliged under law to have full on winter rubber. Many the year before they passed it, tho .. I rode a/s all year round and thought nothing of it. Went with Sears Silverguard tires (great price for a short trip south of the border). Then the missus started driving and I felt I needed to give her every possible safety precaution ... so her car got full winters. Well ... it didn't take long for my car to be upgraded too. I'd thought I was 100% when I had a/s in winter so long as I had decent tread depth left. It's a lot like when someone gets their first pair of glasses and suddenly realizes just how bad their vision really was. If you're going to go to the expense and effort of a second set of tires and rims ... go full winter. IMHO Toyo Observe is the best all around winter tire on the market ... the last time I researched it was 5 years back so they may have been surpassed since then. Dad swore by Blizzaks ... but they run a foamed rubber compound. Scary awesome traction, but they wear much faster than the Toyos. Toyos run a more traditional rubber weight, but embed fibres and crushed walnut shell into the mix ... essentially giving you a light grade sandpaper to run on. give your insurance company a call and see how much of a discount they'll give you for having full winters. You may find it pays the difference.
