  1. Nice car.... Have owned several 70s Grand Prixes thru the years.. Don't see them around much anymore....
  2. Unfortunately Due to work priorities and the current state of affairs of everything that is happening over the last week or so...The engine build has been delayed for awhile....☹☹ Sorry for any inconvenience...Hopefully things will change and I can resume my Quest for horsepower and torque in a couple of weeks... Even though it is "Cheavie"... TLBT..
  3. The graduated syringe...Clear plastic plate method..That Last Indian explained is an accurate way to determine the CCs of the dish including the valve reliefs on the tops of the pistons...
  4. The engine belongs to one of the guys I work for...Has been sitting in the back of the shop for a few years...Since work has been kind of slow lately... He decided now would be a good time for me to go thru it and undo and make right what the previous amateur (borderline incompetent) rebuilder had done before... Anyway the goal is around 670 or more very streetable horsepower at the flywheel...which is realistically achievable with the cam/cylinder head, supercharger combination that I'm going use..Will go into the specs of how I will get those numbers in detail when I have a little more time here in the next couple of days...As far as the vehicle it is going in..I'm not really sure...Since the person that owns the engine doesn't really know himself yet...All he knows is that he wants a blown big block engine (so he can play show and tell with his buddies)...But I'm confident that he will come up with something cool to put it in... Lots more to come..Stay tuned TLBT
  5. Realistically what will probably happen is the price of gas will go up..Because the states will start losing revenue because the people who buy electric cars won't be paying the road taxes that are attached to every gallon of gas sold..So to make up that deficit they will just add more taxes to every gallon of gas sold....therefore raising the price at the pump
  6. For anyone who might be interested...Started a new engine build today...I will try to document it as much as I can although I am lazy and taking photos isn't my top priority, but I will try my best to post as many that are relevant as I can throughout the process... The engine is 454 Chevy that was originally put together by some backyard amateur and only has supposedly 5000 miles on it... During the teardown I discovered the engine had excessive end play in the bottom end and the rod and main bearings were damaged by not having the proper clearances and grit that was left in the engine during the previous build..So I will be turning the forged crankshaft to .010 under and using the appropriate rod and main bearings.. The bores surprisingly look good and still have a nice crosshatch pattern to them and they are straight ..No taper or ridge in the top and are nice and round and will not require any machining and only a good cleaning... The forged rods and pistons are in really good shape and I will be reusing them after a good cleaning will be using new rings so I can set the end gaps to coincide with the blower that will be installed.. The cylinder heads came separate in another box and were already completely disassembled..So I will work my magic on the ports and then they will be completely rebuilt with all new parts.. Will update with photos as applicable.... Stay tuned..
  7. My thoughts on the whole green movement....It is best to probably keep it to myself as I am sure there are alot of "woke"people in today's world who would find it extremely offensive.... So let's just say that I'm not the least bit swayed by the 24/7..365 propaganda machine (You know..The one that says...it's For my own good) that we are being forced to buy into...
  8. More than likely the difference in the way car tracks is directly related to considerably stiffer sidewalls of the low profile tires.. Even though the overall tire diameter is really close (the 17s being slightly taller) the actual sidewalls are narrower..and a lot stiffer.Due to the inside diameter being larger for the 17 inch rims and don't allow the same amount of side to side flexibility between the road surface through the tires to the rims...So any imperfections in the road that would normally be absorbed with the 15 inch wheels and the taller sidewalls in the tires are being transferred more directly through the suspension and ultimately the steering wheel..With the lower profile tires...Any loose or worn suspension parts that would have gone unnoticed will show up with the wider tires and/or stiffer sidewalls also with the contact patch of the tires being considerably larger it is picking up more of the road surface imperfections.... I have low profile tires on a couple of my cars..I can run over a cigarette butt and tell if it has a filter on it or not.. It Would be a good idea to thoroughly inspect the front suspension for any loose or worn parts and do an alignment....with special attention paid to the tow in/out...To help compensate for the wider tires...
  9. Would like to possibly answer your question if I can....Could you be more specific on exactly what it is you're looking for..?? Finding TDC..advance....retard...total timing..settings.. dwell...Does it still have the stock cam...ETC.. TLBT
  10. What exactly is the issue with your power steering..?? Both the pump and the steering box are serviceable units and can be repaired and/or rebuilt...
  11. What could possibly be a better use of time..? Free stuff rocks....Especially if it's Pontiac related....Plus I'm pretty much lazy anyway...Although it does require effort to walk across the road to the mailbox...Which by the way doesn't have my free Forever Pontiac calendar in it yet...What's up with that.....????
  12. Will be waiting by my mail box for my free calendar.......
  13. Like the silver Lemans...But I really like the Red Eldorado next to it...The big block transverse engine Firebrd really ain't that rare....See them around here all the time but only with a CVT transmission.....Wonder if the tool handle to hold a tap comes with it...
  14. Thanks Ringo.. They contacted me and We are good to go...Found the blades somewhere else, but if anything pops up I will consider using them in the future.....
  15. Sorry I've taken so long to respond...Have been dealing with weather related issues...(Downed trees and flooding).. I found an old school hole in the wall parts store here in my area and they had exactly what I needed.... The main issue is the wiper arms on the early 4th gen F bodies are a reverse J hook design whereas the later model F cars..98 to 02 are a standard J hook design....The actual blades ( rubber part )themselves are the same....24 inch...and will interchange with each other....So in the future I can just get the later model ones and just swap out the blades....from the new ones to the old ones.... The first photo shows the reverse J hook design which the J part is up instead of facing the other way..J part down like the newer models..The next two photos are the blades for the earlier models...The last 2 photos are blades from the later models...and will not work on the earlier models.. Thanks for all the timely responses and they are appreciated.... TLBT..
  16. Yes tried Rock Auto....They swore they were the right ones...So I ordered them...The ones that I received were for 98 to 02..with the standard J hook setup......Of course they basically said that I was a dumb ass And didn't know what I was talking about and they assured me again that they were the right ones.....I was kinda pissed after that.....So I said the hell with it and sent them back....
  17. You're at the right place.... Welcome to Forever Pontiac....
  18. I've been trying to find replacement windshield wipers for my 1997 Firebird..... Have checked every Auto parts store in the area...To no avail...Everyplace says they are not in stock anywhere in their network....And they can't get them...The 1998 to 2002 wipers are readily available but not 1993 to 1997..The 98 to 02 are standard 24 inch wipers whereas the 93 to 97 are 24 inch with a reverse J hook design which is exactly opposite of the 98 to 02....And they will not work on either of my cars..(96 and 97 ) Any ideas on where to source a couple of sets.. Have thought about just getting the 98 to 02s and swapping the blades..(refills)..but I really don't want too do that if I can avoid it... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks..TLBT
  19. So far so good....Looks like you're off to a good start.... Happy to help....
  20. I'm pretty sure that the 1963 and the 1964 Bonneville use the same frames...But NOT 100% sure....I don't have the 1964 Frame specs that you are looking for but I do have them for 1963 and 1965....I'm 95 % sure that 63 and 64 are the same...I will include the 1965 frame specs also....Pretty sure that the 65 is different from the 64 model...This may or may not be correct for 1964 Hope maybe these photos will help.....Hope they are legible....Welcome to the site
  21. According to what the cam card indicates....It should make good low end and mid range torque and power...Off idle to somewhere around 5000 RPMs.... With minimal cylinder head work and a good 3 angle valve job...And be able to pull enough vacuum for the power brakes to work good.... If you listen carefully (trained ear) it probably has a slight lope to it also....With a good tune...400 horsepower is a very realistic estimate......With around 340 to 360 horses at the wheels....
  22. Wrongway..... Does your car still have the original engine..??
  23. Way cool bird....I have seen one in a magazine one time...Never in person...I also own a very low production Firebird...Most people have no clue what they're looking at when they see it....I have a thing for odd obscure factory produced cars especially high performance base model strippers....Welome to the site.....
  24. Um OK....One of the rare times that I'm at a loss for words.... Wonder if it will pop a wheelie..??
