  1. The grille and headlights looks like AMC Rambler/Rambler Marlin to me. However, the bumper is not correct. Another close looking car is the late 60s Plymouth Fury. However, I suspect this a highly modified Photoshop picture and we might never know.
  2. Ghosty, have you checked the paint codes against PPG? They may well be the same "corporate" color much like how Chrysler used Plum Crazy Purple on Dodge Challengers and In Violet for the Plymouth 'Cudas - it was the same exact color but they called it something different. So White Diamond and Cargo Van White might be the same thing!!!! Although lets face it, Cargo Van White is not a very sexy name for a paint. Its like "Barn Red".
  3. Great win Indyman, you know you had my vote! Can't wait see her in pearly shiny white!
  4. Actually, it is a '72 Luxury Lemans. Indymanjoe has removed a lot of the badging and other trim that would identify it as a Luxury Lemans. With luck, time, and money, he might be able to re-paint the car this winter.
  5. I don't think that would happen. Cadillac's foray's into 2-door roadsters have always been V8 powered with either the Northstar powered Allante or Notherstar-powered or supercharged Northstar powered XLR. The Kappa platform was 2-door roadster platform that Saturn, Pontiac, and Opel/Vauhall took advantage of to compete with the likes of the Mazda Miata with a Ecotec 4 cylinder engine or a turbo charged version. I don't see a version of this car fitting a niche in Cadillac's product line up or customer demographic profile.
  6. I leave for Charleston 4 days. I can't wait. Stratman - you coming?????
  7. Thanks guys! I told JUSTA what it was a while ago but he was sworn to secrecy. I was hoping to get more done this summer, but travel baseball did me in again. Its a deal JUSTA !!!!
  8. External sheet metal parts are often unique to the body or platform. I would not expect a fender or door from a Chevy Caprice or Buick Electra to match your Catalina. So I would stick to looking at 77-81 Bonnevilles and Catalinas to replace things like doors, fenders, and grilles. Frames you might have more luck with Olds and Chevy chassis as well, still there should be plenty of Bonneville and Catalinas lying around, especially out west. The 77-81 Catalina and Bonneville are the 5th generation and the last truly full-size cars. This was also the final generation for the Catalina nameplate. After 1981, Pontiac discontinued the Catalina name and the Bonneville name continued on with a redesigned model. So these would be the years to look for dash, glove box, fender, and doors, in my opinion. I would also scrutinize Bonneville parts very carefully since the Bonneville was the more luxurious model, they might have more trim than the Catalina model and you might need to remove, fill, or fiddle with.
  9. I call shotgun and I get to ring the siren on the fire truck!!!!
  10. I am going to interpret you question to mean eliminating your points/dwell and replace it with some sort of breaker-less ignition system. I have a Pertronix Ignition II in my distributor in my 4555 that replaces the old points system. Pertronix has the ignition III kit out now. It utilizes your stock distributor with very little modification. Removing the distributor makes overall installation easier. Pertronix has kits for 4, 6, and 8 cylinder distributors. I certain that Accel and/or Mallory have kits as well. I am sure the Mallory unit would work a lot better for JUSTA's V6 if he didn't have such a large hole in his hood to allow large quantities of water to come into the engine compartment!!!!
  11. Well the wait is over, I have finally installed my new, custom monogrammed convertible boot cover !!!! Ta Da!!!! I installed it just before the Golling and Sellers shows. JUSTA and Indymanjoe were the first to see it. It is my own design.
  12. Here is a rare car - Eddie's Cipollari's 1973 Grand Am. The first Grand Am !!!!! JaxGXP's 1980 Sunbird Convertible. The turbocharged versions are very rare screamers. Lobo Domesticado's 1974 Ventura GTO. Best power-to-weight GTO that Pontiac produced (until the 2004-06 came out) even though it had a 350, according to the late John Sawruk..
  13. I like it....so what is the story of these 2 cars?
  14. Believe it Ringo.A friend of mine is a GM IT project manager. He is working on a cyber security project for OnStar and the ECM/BCM/TCM vehicle systems. He said that GM had engineering students at the University of Washington prove that cyber hacking of a vehicle was possible (that over 2 years ago that this proof of concept hacking was sufficiently demonstrated to GM engineers that the threat was real). His project is in essence to work to lock down vehicle systems from just such threats. Honestly, if I have to take a new vehicle to the dealership in order to "patch" my car, I will be seriously ticked. While I understand the interaction of modern smart systems to infotainment systems, it will get to be the point that my PC, cell phone and automobile are merely expensive cyber devices that I have to constantly take precautions, patch, firewall, etc. because someone can hack into it. Sometimes I am accused of not accepting new technology, but hey, the old technology didn't have these types of consequences either. Granted that they might not have had the degree of flexibility either. BTW are we still looking for nominations??????
  15. Well, the weather was not as nice as it was Saturday for Golling. It rained in the morning, but by the time I hit the road, it had stopped raining. I decided to do a parts run to the local National Parts Depot warehouse, which is only 13 miles from the car show (and 90 minutes from house in the first place). So I hit NPD in Canton, and then headed back north to Farmington Hills to Bob Seller's Buick-GMC. I was put in the general '64-74 Pontiac & Buicks class since there is no Lemans/Tempest/Skylark class. There is an A-body performance class - GTO/GT-37/GS/GSX, so it was decided I would go into the general category and compete with the full size Bonnevilles, Grand Prixes, Catalinas and LeSabres. Attendance was way down from past years due to the cold, nasty weather mainly. Typically we have 125 cars, I don't think we had 70. The sun came out and dried things out until around 1:30. Then the rain returned briefly. The award ceremony was moved inside the dealership just in case. I ended up winning my class even though the award for Best Paint went to a '68 Catalina! I was stunned (and of course happy). I got a call from Indymanjoe. He said he was coming out, but since the weather got nasty and the awards ceremony was held early to allow everyone to get out of Dodge quicker, he didn't make it to the dealership. I did however meet him at Baker's in Milford. I am one of only two cars that went to Baker's. I've never seen Baker's so dead on a Sunday night cruise-in. Obviously it was all due to the weather. So Joe and I got caught up with each other since we have seen each other or talked to one another since the Dustoff in June. To say that he and I have been busy would be a huge understatement. I will post pictures just as soon as I get them uploaded.
  16. Looks like an awesome venue. I wonder if Valid can go? This is her neck of the woods.
  17. JUSTA was definitely the big winner on Saturday with not one, but TWO trophies. I didn't win squat but that is not why I was there (but it is always nice). I was there to patronize Golling since they so generously support the Widetrackers and this is an opportunity to pay them back in some small way. If you zoom in on the trophy in front of the Sunbird, you will see that he won that trophy as being the car with the most colors as selected by a local artist. A well deserved win I might add. Ghosty - JUSTA didn't tell you that the $100 is used for premium fuel in the gas tank AND the crap load quarters are used to allow you to start the ignition. It is truly a pay to play system he has there on the Goat. I will get some pictures posted here in the next couple of days.

    new plates?

What choices to do you have from your local DMV for specialty plates? Also how many letter are you allowed? GR8 G6? QWK G6? TN INDN?
  19. JUSTA and I always do Ringo! We'll even take pictures of the neat non-Pontiacs. If you do JUSTA, your coin slot will be jammed full of quarters and you will be wondering why there is a crap load of miles and road rash on the GTO.
  20. I just talked to JUSTA - looks like he, the Goat, and the Sunbird are headed to Golling for the day.So he and I will definitely catch up with one another.
  21. No classes - all awards are given by the various sponsors. If they like your car, you get an award. Its mostly a show n' shine. Lots of giveaways and raffles, free entertainment, poker run, etc. The show is open to all cars regardless of age. The mayor, Danny Jones, tried a couple of years ago to push to make it a classic car show (20 or more years old or older) but that would alienate over 50% of their volunteers! Not a good move plus no one seems to mind the newer Chargers, Challengers, Mustangs, Solstices, GTOs, and Corvettes.
  22. BTW - The Hot Rod Power Tour had Charleston as one of the stops this year as well.
  23. The car show begins on the boulevard on Thursday and runs through Sunday. By far the best festivities are on Saturday. The best live band performs at Haddad Park followed by the live fireworks. All the raffle drawings are usually held just before the band and fireworks. I would recommend getting there well before 12 noon, since registration usually closes because they get close to 1000 cars about that time and that's practical limit of the car show.
