Question about a pontiac 400 engine

Featured Replies

Sure sounds like a timing issue. Did you change the timing at all?  Is your vacume advance hooked up and working?  Hard to give you ideas on what to check.  Lots of things I would check/adjust and put back to where it was if it didn't make a difference.  Fuel system would be another consideration.  Bad fuel pump,  carb/ float issues.  If it was running, you almost have to figure it is something you have done so far.

I can tell you from recent experience that that same issue on my '76 400 was the carb. After soaking all the parts overnight, I reassembled it with a new BRASS float (not them neoprene ones) and that took care of the hesitation issues. But the fellas are correct, there are many other issues that could cause it. If you do decide to rebuild the carb, there are some great videos from Mikes carb out there to take you step by step.  Good luck!

I asked an autozone employee and he was clueless ... Is that what i ask for or does it have another name ?

I can't safely say without knowing what area that you're looking to work on. If electrical, then this should be it. I'm sure that there is someone more knowledgeable than I am though... I do know that there are several different types and areas that "junction" on a car. Sorry that I can't be more help.
