Going to the DMV tomorrow...

Tomorrow I'm heading to the DMV to get a new license because mine is going to expire soon but the reason for this thread is that I basically have to prove I'm a human being pretty much and born/live in the US. Have to bring in my passport, W-2 with social security info, 2 bills to prove where I live, car registration and some other things. I hate this and like this all at the same time. This prevents illegal immigrants from getting a license or anybody that shouldn't have one really but all at the same time I was born here and haven't done anything to have my license revoked, why do I have to prove all this?

Seems like at this point getting a security clearance is easier :welcomeFP:

I'll be posting in here tomorrow if there's a wait at the dmv

<_<

It's like I work in the US and I pay taxes, hmmmm... I'm clearly an illegal alien :welcomeFP:

Lol good thing for me, as long as I stay in the military, my license never expires!!!

I do want to get a MN license though. The only way to get one though, is to actually be in MN. Kinda lame, you'd think there was a form I could mail in with faxed copies of my stuff...

Not a problem for me... I just call my cousin Pancho to call his neighbor Juan to get his brother Miguel to make me a new one! :welcomeFP:

On a serious note... The new Cali DL and ID's are pretty damn cool, I'd like to see someone try to counterfit one of those!

I had to go through a lot of BS to get my passport, to renew my license all I did was go in and pay $60 and I got it in the mail a week later... the time before that they made it on the spot, that was cool.

It seems like everything in the US is a pain in the ass to get done if it involves the government...

What I needed to get my MA license changed over to a SC license and to get my new SC plate:

Birth certificate, SS card, MA license, proof of residence, proof of insurance, pay SC auto taxes upfront across the street in a diff building (lol) and a utlity bill. Then pay the DMV for my license and plates. lol

107.xx SC auto tax

68.xx for plates and license

So wating in line in one building and then waiting in two diff lines in another building I got my plates and license. So two hours and two building and three lines later I got it all done. Now thats F'ed up!

:welcomeFP:

This pretty much sums it up, I really have no faith in our government in day to day tasks like the people in charge of getting me my new license lol. Then again I think logically and our government doesn't...

I'm amazed! I was in and out of the DMV in about 30 min, I think it's a new world record or something.

I love how while I was there 2 people went up to the lady next to my counter and got pissed because of the new rules :welcomeFP: It's like if you read the damn paper they sent out you would have been done quick!

The good news is I never have to bring in a piece of paper again to the DMV unless I change addresses and my license expires in 8 years so that's good

30 minutes does not sound bad. A friend of mine in Michigan says that she brings a book or a movie to watch while she waits.

Wow, yeah I remember when I got my license to begin with it took a long time but they opened this new government building that has a DMV in it and not a lot of people know that it does so I went there and boom it was quick.

One of the guys I work with says that he handles most of his DMV stuff like yearly tag renewals through his inurance agency... Can't remember but I think he's with Statefarm.

That's interesting, how much extra does it cost him? lol.

My thinking is in reality the government either does know all this stuff already or "should" know all this stuff already. I mean with exception of proving where I live, every other document is a government document and I even used a government document as my proof of residency lol.

uhg. I have to go there to get a new license. I lost mine because I'm a dumbass...

:(:(

so in indiana, you can get your new licence online. if you don't have any points on your licence.

speeding tickets. :(

MN DMV License renewal takes maximum 15 min, and that's with a line. Well, the DMV by my place anyhow. Went in there the other day and schooled some of the ladies. Off-road trails in MN require you carry a tab saying you paid the DNR money to use their trails, so I bought one for the bronco. $40 for 3 years isn't bad. So, I went in, tought these ladies all about it (had never heard of it, not many buyers when nearest trail is 2 hrs away) Filled out the form and got my off-road tabs for the truck all in a matter of 15 minutes. I guess our DMV's are just cool like that... and Mark, just come on home for a couple weeks, we'll do up more photos and you can get your new license haha ;)

  • 4 weeks later...

When I got my new license, I went to the DMV with myself and my wallet. They took my old ID and my filled-out form, took a new picture and printed the new ID on the spot. I even changed my address and they never needed proof that's where I lived. Weird. It still took almost an hour though.
