Well Skylines are some of the best cars ever made, they're affordable, and available to enthusiasts here in Canada.

Popularity was a given.

Hyundai/Kia > all other Korean and Chinese

That's not saying much, they are a horrible company, my brother had the very first 03 Tibouron in the west, he loved that car and was so proud of it, and it lasted just 2 weeks before it was starting to fall apart, and the dash caught fire a few times, the tranny went, the shift linkage was bad, the engine went, the AC caught fire, the sun roof fell out... he was denied the road side assistance he paid extra for and he was denied warranty claims for defective parts on his defective car. in the end he had t sue Hyundai to take the car back, he won, they never gave him his money back, and they put the car back on the road after they were ordered to destroy it... in hind site I should have cut it into small pieces before dropping it off.

He replaced it with a rusty 76 AMC Pacer that proved to be way more reliable. (I kid you not, he was even on the news)

Man, I'd love to see that news story if it's out there somewhere.

Global Edmonton, can't remember the date... my brother is on this forum, I asked him to get off his ass and post...

3rd gen Tibrons are hit and miss. I know quite a few guys with them, and they've never had an ounce of trouble. A couple others, they hated them.

Bottom line, whether you like it or not, Hyundai has been a dominant force in the auto industry the past five years, and Kia is getting up there as well. The new Sonata is a damn fine example. The model has had little to no recalls so far after two years on the market, owners are giving back 85% positive feedback on owning these cars, and a turbo AWD model was introduced in November, and a hybrid model a couple months ago. The new gen Elantra really gives the usual suspects in the compact genre (Civic, Corolla, Sentra) something to really worry about.

New gen Elantras and Sonatas are everywhere, same with Kia Forte sedans and Koup models, and new gen Kia Optimas are starting to be more present.

Chris I have no doubt that these car manufactures are getting better but they'll never be something I want because of their past...

My favorite line from Hyundai is the "4/5 people say they are extremely satisfied with their new car", well I hope so it's a new car, nothing should be wrong yet! Wait 5 years and ask them.

Not exactly true. Being in the field of auto repair, I've seen 08, 09, and even '10 models with VERY unhappy customers. 09 Dodge Journey came into my shop, lady HATED the car, almosted tempted to trade it in two years early. I've seen it with GM, Honda, Toyota, any manufacturer.

And good reviews now for Hyundai won't make anyone in my family buy one, even used, that company treated my brother so badly and screwed him over and then blatantly broke the law after... why would I want to buy into that?

My bro currently drives an 02 Bonneville that he loves.

Dealership =/= Company

People always think they're directly connected, and they aren't. Did you try contacting Hyundai directly?

Dealership are basically franchises (they represent the company), they do respond to the company but in other ways run their business too by themselves.

I would honestly think this would be an issue with Hyundai rather than the dealer and the dealer would have had to contact Hyundai to get results.

Yes he did, and they told him that catching fire and parts falling off is NORMAL, and the road side assistance was through Hyundai, not the dealer... and Hyundai said they will only honour it if the car is within 1 mile of a dealer they choose... and he tried to use it in Saskatchewan IIRC, and they said he had to have it towed within a mile of an Alberta or Manitoba dealer or they would not honour the road side, and that he was responsible for the tow up till their tow truck got it.

there is a reason it made the news and why he won when it came to suing them, they were doing all sorts of illegal BS and still are.

That's fuked up...

I dunno, I hear nothing but good from them, even when I was looking at a few AWD Turbo Sonatas...

I have a friend that went from driving an Audi R4 she had all sorts of trouble with to buying a new Hyundai Sonata. She loves it. (Granted, she isn't a car person, but she still has a favorable opinion of the car and the company.)
