Rear Shocks for a 1968 Firebird - 5.7L

Featured Replies

I seem to be having trouble finding replacement shocks for my 68 Bird.  The various resellers say a certain type of shock will fit, but the mechanic says they won't.  Has anyone replaced rear shocks in a 68 Firebird lately?   Any suggestions?  Thank you.

What are you lookin for?  Stock shocks?  Upgraded?  Coil over?   A certain brand?  Should be able to walk in ANY parts store and get whatcha need.

Thank you for the advice.  There issue is not finding shocks at various suppliers that say they fit my 68 Bird, the issue is that the current shocks seem to have two bolts at the top, and none of the shocks that are supposed to fit the car match up with this bolt pattern.  I was wondering if anyone else has run into a similar issue.  Thanks.

2 bolt T top shocks are very common with many GM cars through the 60"s - 70's  and I believe my 80's Bonneville had em as well.  Stop in to an Orielly's or Auto zone and have them bring it up and show you pic's on the computer.   One side of the T is a hole and the other is a slot.  As you don't seem familiar with the job, you start a bolt on the slotted side. Tighten 1/2 way leaving it very loose, it is then very easy to start the second bolt,  Tighten both the rest of the way.
